Customs / Fixing a Tiny Symbol
« on: July 02, 2018, 03:08:23 PM »
Hey, all! I have a G1 Galaxy that unfortunately has one half of her pretty symbol rubbed off. :( I have marked with a very light pencil where each star goes, but due to how small her stars are it's impossible to make them look nice and clean by freehanding it. Furthermore, I tried to use a stencil to paint the stars in, but using an exacto to cut that small is difficult. I have a couple options left, but before I go completely crazy I thought it may be best to ask you guys!

So, in your experience(s), what have you guys found is the best way to restore smaller and more complex symbols?

Thank you!

Thank you for your help! I definitely don't want to rip anyone off, so I'll just stick to the so-soft price and keep her mistakes in mind. :) Thanks again, friend!

Pony Corral / Price Check for a deflocked pony
« on: June 29, 2018, 10:43:18 AM »
As the title says, I'm hoping to find the price of a deflocked Bouncy. I more-so deflocked her as an experiment, but I personally think her vinyl color is so much lovelier. She looks great deflocked, and every part of her is good condition except for three plugs at the front of her head that were cut. Having checked ebay, she goes flocked for 10-15 dollars in good condition, so what might I be able to expect for deflocked?

Thank you for your help and advice!

High Tide / Sea Spray don't even have the same hair colour.  HT's is fading pink (and she has purple eyes), while Sea Spray (blue eyes) has  the same hair colour as Peachy/Cotton Candy/Sundance.

Like I said, my bad! I assumed High Tide's hair was just the kind that faded over time but was the same base shade as Seaspray. False association on my part. Guess I was trying to find a similar one since the other two looked like copies and I'm not used to Euro exclusives. You guys cleared it up just fine! Thanks for the help.

I knew High Tide and Seaspray were different, but like with the rest of the Euro exclusives I couldn't tell! They look the same as the others to me. Not very suave with seaponies yet, lol. My bad!

Thanks for giving me a lesson too! :)

I used to think that the flutter ponies were so cute!! Then I saw their size... honestly, one of the things I love is the size of the G1 ponies, and apparently the flutters are tiny in comparison. Now they're one of my least favorites, behind the big sister ponies. Those are the worst  :P

Hiya! I know this is an older thread but I have 1 so soft Buttons that I have yet to clean and a Sparkler merry go round pony that is in good-used condition! If you're interested in either feel free to let me know :) I can also clean the SS or even deflock her if either option sweetens the deal!

I would recommend getting very well acquainted with Mylittlewiki. On the g1 tab it has identification help, lists of ponies by year, playsets... it's super helpful! Before I even bought any I just browsed it for fun, and it inspired me to make the leap :) For ebay G1s, you'll wanna look up "mlp g1" or "my little pony g1" on ebay (and search pre-1990) for the best assortment of purely toys! Sounds like you have a magic message pony btw... she's a cutie!

Pony Corral / Deflocking a So-Soft
« on: June 23, 2018, 03:35:52 PM »
I've been watching tutorials about deflocking SS ponies, and I feel pretty confident! However, I'd like to know if I should only use boiling water alongside powder oxyclean. Are there other cleaners I could use? Maybe a soft scrub cleanser with Oxi?  Or should I scrap the boiling step all together? For reference, I'm cleaning the flock off of a Bouncy pony and I'm nervous her blue hair will fade.

Thanks!

So from this reference here (The one I prefer) as well as ebay estimates, you have the following values:

SurfDancer (UK) - Less than 10$. Nothing on the price guide about this one, but ebay has 2 completed transactions. Elusive, I guess?
Wavedancer OR Wavebreaker (UK) (Pink body/blue hair) - US for 15-20$, UK for 50-60$. These two are identical but had different packaging. I'm guessing the "Wavebreaker" name is rarer since it's a UK exclusive, but it only has one or two sales on Ebay.
High Tide (US) OR Seaspray (UK) (Yellow body/pink hair) - 20-40$.

Shells are worth anywhere from 20-40$, if you're lucky.

Also: I'm guessing they're all the UK versions. I did have to identify these using mylittlewiki and I am not 100% positive if I got them right, but Seaponies in general are worth a decent amount.

Hope I could help!

EDIT I got it wrong! Seaponies aren't really my thing, but I tried :) Look below for the answer your looking for.

Great job with the garage sale! I never seem to have luck with those :')

Those lunchboxes are ADORABLE. Did they come with their thermoses? If I remember correctly, the Aladdin brand made them in pairs but they got lost very easily.

These are all amazing omg!

I'm not sure if this is a true error or not. It looks like North Star has an extra leg but it could just be the way the next is drawn over her body.

I'm under the impression that it's less an error and more just shoddy drawing. Like with a lot of older animations, background characters moreso resemble the schmooze than any type of Pony I've seen! LOL

My bet is that they just didn't draw the legs properly, though it sure looks funny!

Thanks for all the tips,  you guys! I'll definitely check out those other websites!

Back on topic - to the OP, the clock you linked is a UK one. If you look you can actually see that it says Hasbro UK on it (even though Cupcake wasn't sold here). I have seen it come up on UK ebay a few times. It's heavy, though. I don't know your location, geographically, but you may need to think about shipping. There are also others in the same set - there's one with Bubbles, I think, and one other but I forget who it is.

Thanks for the tip! Although I think the clock is cute, I actually just looked it up as an example :) Those things are heavy, but so perfectly kitschy~

I would actually advise keeping an eye on places like this and maybe the TP as well for collectors selling things. The truth is that a lot of the stuff does actually come through ebay. In the past, it was really easy to pick up merch from second hand sales and I still see it occasionally at toy fairs, but not so much now. I sold a huge amount of merchandise that I picked up this way over the years but even so I still have a LOT remaining in my collection and I think other people do, too. So sometimes it's fellow collectors who've picked this stuff up and want to make space so pass it on.

That's so good to know! I've definitely gone through a couple different MLP searches on Ebay, but I have no doubt that I've missed quite a bit of vintage merch. I particularly like hearing about selling tendencies with second-hand stores/fairs, as it lets me know what to expect.

Again, thank you all for the advice! I'll definitely check out these new avenues and continue scouring Ebay's depths ;)

Hey again, all!

Although I really like the vinyl toys and plushes from the G1 line, I've been hoping to set my eyes on similar G1 merchandise. I LOVE the design of the old ponies, so it seems like a fun way to find room decor! For reference, I mean items like this radio, animation cels, or this cute clock! Just cute, kitschy stuff rather than the actual toys.

Basically, I'm curious if you guys have any references for places to find collectibles and decor. I've tried ebay, and through a bunch of searches, I've basically found toys, weird party masks, and animation cels. A good start! But no variety.

To clarify: I am NOT asking for you guys to hunt for me! I just know that there may be sites similar to ponyology or avaneshop that may be outside my radar, and I love having new sites/locations to scour.

Thanks! <3
