Off Topic / Re: Eurovision Song Contest 2024« Last post by Griffin on Today at 10:46:17 AM »So it looks like The Netherlands is not competing tonight? Sorry about the whole incident, I hope we'll learn more later.
My personal favourites this year are Norway, Estonia and Croatia. I also like Armenia, Switzerland, Ireland and, I've got to admit, Austria's eurodance piece because that was the kind of music that 'everybody' listened to when I was in elementary school. So it brings back memories definitely. There's something of that genre in Finland's entry as well, and who doesn't love nostalgia and a little silliness? Latvia's song is beautiful and has a strong message but I'm sadly not a fan of the stage performance, and I feel like it will be seriously underappreciated because of that, but let's see. I was happy to see that one get enough votes to enter the final at least! In general, I give points for native languages, successful blendings of different genres (especially if one of those genres is folk/traditional music), and traditional instruments and/or vocals. I also tend to like pieces with social/political criticism, which can be subtle or not-so-subtle... 13
Off Topic / Re: The Trivial Complaints Thread ... #3« Last post by Taffeta on Today at 10:45:12 AM »We had a conversation about this at work today, and it transpires absolutely none of us knew it was going to happen xD. We're so well informed.
My trivial complaint is that I had a borderline creepy conversation with the security guard guy today. He's a joker kind of a guy and we all often have banter with him, but I also don't really like when people make intrusive comments or questions...it's just something I don't really enjoy. I don't think he meant any harm by it, but I was definitely not comfortable. 14
Off Topic / Re: What manga are you reading?« Last post by Taffeta on Today at 10:36:21 AM »I just caught up with Yona. Honestly everything is so O.O at the moment I'm not quite sure where we are from one chapter to another. But I liked this chapter anyway. I feel like it was a good chapter for Yona and who she's become overall.
I also feel like...the author has been messing with us big time and is still messing. Ponyfan, you might want to hold onto those volumes a while before you read them... Genuinely a spoiler Spoiler Also, this is an actual spoiler. So just saying... Spoiler I'm so amused that Zeno got a good telling off from his dragon. I love Zeno but this time he needs a proper good shake. 15
Pony Corral / Re: Who is your favorite Pony Friend/Pretty Pal?« Last post by Taffeta on Today at 10:31:21 AM »I really don't have one. I do think Oakly and ChaCha are nice, but these weren't ever part of MLP in the UK so I always look at them a bit weird...lol They're cute but I can't pick one out over the others.
I do think Cutesaurus is the maddest one though. Nope, dinosaurs didn't go extinct. They moved to ponyland and became radioactively neon... 16

Customs / Re: Custom Advice- One Year Update« Last post by Griffin on Today at 10:17:47 AM »Okay! There's DuraClear Matte Varnish at my Walmart, do you think that brand works? It should work just fine (Edit to add: I'm not familiar with that brand but I googled it and it should be similar to other polyurethane varnishes. Just make sure to gently shake or stir it before applying - I'm not James Bond so I prefer stirring, lol - otherwise it may end up glossy! I've made that mistake before ) 18

Off Topic / Re: The Trivial Complaints Thread ... #3« Last post by Beth3346 on Today at 06:50:14 AM »i missed seeing the Northern Lights last night. i didn't think it would make it so far south. i looked out around 10pm or so and didn't see anything. but apparently you can use your phone camera to see it. i didn't know i'll try again tonight.
also the neighbor diagonal to us keeps trying to run birds off from his backyard by putting up all this reflective junk. i guess their precious pool is more important than allowing birds to be around. now he seems to be lining the fence with tin foil if you don't like birds don't move to the burbs. they were here first! the trees i'm planting along the fence can't grow fast enough. |
