Off Topic / I did it! (self-published my book)
« on: March 19, 2015, 07:09:20 AM »
Hi, everyone!
Some of you might remember my previous post from about six months ago about wanting to self-publish my book but being very afraid!
http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,359797.msg1259128.html#msg1259128

Well, I did it! I really did it! :D
I decided to use Createspace for most services and also Elance for editing help. What a long journey it was. And it definitely ended up costing more than I thought to make it more polished.
I still have some nerves about getting bad reviews and that kind of thing. But I am proud of myself for following through with it, and I am so motivated to keep writing. Maybe there is a best-seller in my future. Who knows? :)

(If you are interested to see how it looks, you can find it by clicking through my Facebook link on the left.)

Pony Corral / New pony smell!
« on: January 10, 2015, 04:09:08 PM »
I was lucky enough to get a pony case with ponies in it that still have new pony smell. They seem to have been played with very gently, a few having braids and a few wearing Pony Wear. I think the smell was probably preserved so well because they were always kept in this case. My husband has been teasing me for wanting to sniff these ponies. Ha ha!

My question is, if I put them on display on a shelf that is not enclosed, will the new pony smell disperse, in the way that smoky ponies seem to air out? If so, maybe I should just keep them in the case. I dislike the idea of them being doomed to live in a case forever. A couple of them have pony wear stains/age spots; I suppose I could just keep those ones enclosed.

Ha ha, am I crazy? If I ever have a pony museum, I will have to offer free smells!

Off Topic / Connecting on Twitter
« on: January 02, 2015, 06:10:27 AM »
So I started Twitter for marketing my book, but I've ended up really liking it. For a writer, it's actually really nice! It forces me to try to come up with more creative thoughts, so it helps my creativity; I work on using humor; and also it teaches me about being concise with my ideas since it limits characters.
Most of my friends don't use Twitter! Does anybody have tips of how I can connect with people there? For example, how do I find other writers who are new to the author scene like myself? The only thing I have come up with is to search #writer or #writerproblems but it seems like usually the same people using the hashtags.
Any advice? Thanks!  :)

MLP Nirvana / Have you seen these Colombian baby ponies before?

I am always nervous to buy ponies that I can't find on the wiki. I don't see any signs that they are fake. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I have a little MOC/MIB collection I'd like to share!

All these ponies (except Bootsie and Tootsie) are ones that I had when I was kid, so they were the first ones I wanted to get MOC:

Price Check Archives / PC Backcards?
« on: November 01, 2014, 12:29:19 PM »
Count me in as another collector trying to add up the value of her collection for insurance purposes.

I have a pile of backcards. I counted 44 of them that are complete with nothing cut out (though most have bends of some kind). There are some from rare ponies so I am wondering what they might be worth?
The rarer ones are:
Oakly
Crumpet
Taffy
SS Twilight
Angel
Barnacle
Wig Wam
Newborn twins
Princess Moondust
Hmm.. I think maybe Bright Eyes too.

Most of the rest are less-sought-after ponies like Magic Message ponies and Peekaboo babies.

Then there are some with tears etc... like Cha Cha Llama was there but the bottom was torn.

Thanks for any help you can give me as to the value!  :)

Off Topic / Opinions on my title, please?
« on: October 23, 2014, 07:38:27 AM »
A few of you may remember my thread a while back that I was trying to gather courage to self-publish my book. Well, I am now in the middle of this process of making all the final decisions.
There seem to be very different opinions on my title from the people I have shared it with. So I am hoping to get more opinions that might help me make my final decision.

The genre is contemporary romance; it's a romantic comedy.
The super short summary is this: The male and female character are unlikely friends because he is a partier and casual hookup guy and she is the bookish "good girl." They flirt sometimes but both are sure they are not meant for a romantic relationship with each other. The chemistry between them starts to get the best of them, and they go back and forth between romantic moments and fighting. Then the male character does something very hurtful to her feelings, and it's questionable whether they can rebuild any relationship.

So I am currently between these two titles.
Title 1: They May or May Not
Title 2: Never You

The cover design is mostly whimsical. (Probably most like a Jennifer Crusie cover).

Please let me know your thoughts, because reviewers sure will when it is released!!
Thanks!  :)

Off Topic / Need courage!! (Considering self-publishing)
« on: September 01, 2014, 12:15:49 PM »
About 10 years ago, I wrote a contemporary romance book (when I was about 22). Every once in a while over the years I have read it, added, and edited. I have finally come to the point that I am considering self-publishing this book. But... ACK! I am so scared!! I am a fairly private person. Am I really going to let people have a view right into my mind??

While I'm reading it, I love it; it makes me laugh; it makes me fall in love with my characters all over again. And in the moment I feel: I should definitely publish this! As soon as I finish it and a day goes by, the doubts start creeping in.

For one thing, only some people enjoy reading romances. And there are a couple of obligatory "love scenes," though they are not strange or overly detailed. Still that's a little embarrassing, and of course the people who know me are mostly the ones who will read it. Self-publishing will mean I will be limited on who I can reach.

Basically when I think seriously about publishing it, I get a nervous feeling as if I have to give a speech later. I wish I felt more sure about this! Any advice?

Pony Corral / Large-eyed flutters
« on: August 19, 2014, 07:40:47 PM »
Can you tell me anything about large-eyed flutters? Were the large-eyed ones made first, and they changed the mold for some reason? I can't find any info on them, though I swear I saw somebody mentioning it on a website at some point.
I believe there's a large-eyed version of the entire first set. Is there a large-eyed Yum Yum?

Here's a couple of examples. Actually their whole heads look larger.

For Trade / G3 trade?
« on: August 17, 2014, 05:00:57 PM »
Anyone want to trade G3s?  :)
I have these to trade. Some are bait; some are rehair-worthy; some are for non-picky collectors. The G3s are Goodwill lot ponies to give you idea of their condition. Most of the G3.5s are nice though.

I'd like to trade for any G3s I don't have. I am not picky about them.
Here are the pictures of my G3 collection: ones I DON'T need. (Photographed by color, and the last photo is of new ones I've gotten since then. Edit: Just added a pic of my Ponyvilles too.)

In addition I made these notes at some point about G3.5s I need (will have to double check these).
Pinkie Valentine
Pinkie with skirt
Rainbow Dash long hair
Rainbow Dash with skirt
Scootaloo sparkly
Starsong TAF with name (notes down the leg)
Sweetie Belle Valentine
Sweetie Belle scarf

So all around I had a pony-themed birthday.
