Pony Corral / Re: Best way to display ponies?
« on: April 21, 2023, 03:49:17 PM »
In my case, I used craft boards of varying widths for risers. I drilled holes in the sides of the bookcase for metal pins for the risers to rest on, then used a router to cut grooves for the risers to rest on the pins, then stained them to match the bookcase.

I've also done much more simple ones just by making them out of cardboard and hot glue.

Pony Corral / PC Needed- Styling Size G3 Cheerilee
« on: May 08, 2021, 07:46:34 AM »
Currently downsizing my collection and I was wondering what a good price would be for this G3 Styling Size Cheerilee. Checked eBay and the only one sold recently was MIB. She's in pretty good condition, the hair hasn't faded and there's only a few small blemishes, although you can see there's a little bit rubbed off on the cutie mark.

Trader & Shipping Support / Re: How is selling on eBay these days?
« on: April 13, 2019, 07:32:29 PM »
I don't know about how it is with toys specifically since I haven't really sold many of those, but I've sold a few dozen items over the past three months, and I've only had an issue with two people. One didn't pay, and the other tried to con me into giving free shipping, but other than that it's been pretty straightforward.

So, when I thought you said royals, you meant actual royal ponies, so I went with this Princess Celestia. She is currently ruling over the Seaquestria playset, with other castles delegated to other releases of Celestia. Naturally, as in the FiM show itself, Celestia was made ruler of her particular kingdom because she is taller than the other ponies, and therefore more impressive and presumably the most powerful.

I'm just really hoping that by CGI, they don't mean 3D.

Pony Corral / Re: G3.5 10 Years Later-Thoughts?

My opinion of them hasn't really changed. They still look like fetal G4s to me, although at least the hair was nice.

Off Topic / Re: Moving Out of State - Recommendations?
« on: November 09, 2018, 03:05:20 PM »
Well, you could do what it seems like half of New York has done and move down to the Carolinas.  Winters here can get bad if you're in the mountains, but I'd imagine they're far more mild than in New England, you just have to get used to the fact that most Southerners are genetically hardwired to go into Panic Mode at the slightest hint of snow. It stays warm to hot here most of the year. Spring/Fall seem to only last 2 weeks before going straight to Summer/Winter. Summers can get pretty harsh, and it does get humid here.

Land down here is dirt cheap and taxes are going to be much lower. I'm not sure how much property taxes around here are, though. Upstate SC is mostly rural, but there are a few cities with things to do, but Charlotte is the only one that really fits into the category of 'larger city' (give Greenville a few years, though, it'll get there).  If you're into the arts, you'd probably like going to Asheville. I can't really say much about Community around here, I tend to keep to myself.

I second the candy hearts, it tastes like sweetened chalk.  I'd also add in candy corn. It tasted great when I was little, but it just tastes like disappointment now.

Pony Corral / Re: Cutie Mark Crew coming to US McDs next month!

That's good to hear, I didn't think these would ever be coming to the US. Well, guess I better prepare myself for having to eat Happy Meals for lunch in the near future.

I think this is a good enough reason to try and get some good photos of my main display. I am not looking forward to the dusting, or the editing.

Pony Corral / Re: Pony Photography! Any Tips or Tricks?
« on: August 18, 2018, 08:07:28 PM »
Well, with a phone especially, light is going to be your friend here. Personally, I use desk lamps to light the subject. The articulation is extremely helpful to place the lighting just right. You don't have to get new ones, you can just look around thrift shops until you find a few. I also use CFL bulbs instead of LED ones since they give out just a little bit more illumination.

You can use something like a piece of posterboard for a background, or better yet, you can make a lightbox out of a cardboard box and some cheap fabric and use the posterboard in that.

One of the things I've found is that G4 packaging sometimes has some art on the inside of the package that works well as a background, so I've been trying to use that in more photos instead of a plain white background. I've seen a few people use a colored background that matches or complements the subject, and that works nicely as well.

I'd try to avoid using flash when taking pictures with a phone, and also make sure HDR is on if your phone's camera has it. That can help out, too, sometimes. As far as apps go, I have no idea.

This is my setup when taking pictures of toys and for selling stuff online. The lightbox is something I made for under $10 with materials you can get from Walmart.

Here's a few pictures I've done.
