Title: My first rehair and biggest restoration ! :D
Post by: RoseNoire on June 14, 2018, 09:23:05 AM
Hi everyone !
My apologies if this topic doesn't have its place here, feel free to move it.
I just want to share with you my newest and biggest restoration so far, as well as my very first rehair so it might help you feel confident for you own restorations, because anything is possible if we are motivated. :D

I can't recall when I got this BB Tex, but I know I cleaned him back in November 2017 and ordered his hair the same month. I left him aside until now, when I finally felt like rehairing and finishing him. It was tricky and time consuming, but worth it ! 7 months to restore a pony. Haha. I'm not the quickest at all.

I didn't order a rehair tool, I used a very small sewing needle and asked my dad to cut it like the rerooting tool and then fixed it on a handle. Actually, my dad didn't cut it at an angle like the tool, but it was still really effective ! That was a lot cheaper to create and less painful to break. (As I broke one using it, my mistake. Got another one the very next day and finished my work !)

So yeah, rehairing with  a DIY rerooting tool. yay. :D

Yucky stuff
His body was full of rust, that was yucky to clean off but thankfully, he's better now. :p

Now he is very happy with his lady.

Hope this gave you motivation and self-confidence. Have a great day !
Take care.

Rose.

He looks great - how did you get him so clean?
The hair is fabulous and also the repainted symbols.

Thanks for the tip on the needles - I'm always breaking them and always buy in plenty of spares but you and your Dad have inspired me to have a go and experiment making my own.

Thanks everyone ! I'm so happy you like him ! =))

@PoserBeachball : I cleaned him with warm water, dish soap and a toothbrush for surface dirt and rust inside. I also used small balls from ball bearings, soap again and shake it a lot to reach his legs. That was pretty effective.
For markers and others, I used acetone-free nail polish remover on a cuetip and rubbed it directly on any remaining traces, being careful with his eyes, blush and what was left of his symbol.
I'm really happy my DIY rerooting tool inspired you. It really worked pretty well, coupled with a hairdryer/infra-red lamp to keep his vinyl soft and a spike to enlarge momentarily his hole.

@Shaiyeh : Yes, they are really small. The trickiest was the tiny pink bush thingy. I only had barely one remaining (Only visible at a certain light angle because only light reflection differed. Otherwise, it was literally invisible) and then I had to improvise and be very careful to get the shape just right. They are the detail I'm the most proud of.
