Pony Corral / Re: 35 Anniversary Collectors ponies - Thread 3!

I will admit that I was just a teensy bit disappointed that Starflower did not have the pink color shift-glitter that Flutterbye and Confetti had.

But getting a Starflower whose glitter wasn't bleeding into her flank?  Still a top notch experience.

I am keeping my pony parade limited to 5 sweater boxes and three shoeboxes, for space reasons.  In the area of the house (which doubles as 2 businesses, both mine and my partner's) where I display the ponies, there not many vertical walls, it's a finished attic space, so my display area is limited to a hanging shelf and the top of another case. And the storage has to fit in this one small area in a closet because the rest of the space is craft supplies and stuff I can't put in the attic proper because it's not as climate controlled.

I usually keep 2-3 ponies on my desk and swap them out every week.  I mostly treat my collection like it's a seasonal decoration.  Almost everyone comes out for 3 months at a time.  Some are organized into Halloween, Christmas, my birthday and May Day. Those are among my favorites so it's usually a great treat that they are out for shorter periods of time. And it has kept them in really good shape.

I have to admit that the G3.5 mums are very cute. If I ever got any G3.5s, it'd be them.

I actually just found my first "keeper" G3.5 pony and it was Rainbow Dash's mom.  I found Dash too, so I decided to keep them both.

So as my mother really brutally harshly threw out my ponies in 1987 or 88, I am going to count both my original ponies and what exists in my current collection that I started in 1995.

Unicorns:
  • Twilight + Glory (as a kid)
  • Twilight + Skyflier (current collection)
Earth Ponies:
  • Cotton Candy and Applejack (as a kid)
  • Butterscotch and Tootsie (current collection)
Pegasus:
  • Firefly and Sprinkles (as a kid)
  • Medley and Heart Throb (current collection)
Sea Ponies:
  • Tiny Bubbles (as a kid) my only sea pony.  I was kinda confused by the sea ponies as a kid.
  • Tiny Bubbles and Seawinkle (who is really baity and is being rehaired to look like her Surf Dancer
Flutter Ponies:
  • Honeysuckle and Peach Blossom (as a kid, I only had them for long enough to lose their wings before they got thrown out
  • Morning Glory and Honeysuckle
Winger:
  • Didn't have any as a kid
  • High Flier and Glow

Unipegs:
Celestia (that first one with molded hair) and Nightmare Moon.  I got rid of Nightmare Moon for some reason.

Merponies:
Princess Skystar is the only one I have ever had.

The Brush and Grow ponies make me sad. Their color schemes are among my absolute favorites, almost all top notch.  But they have all of my least favorite poses (seriously, if Pretty Vision was in the Tootsie pose it would be 6/6) and symbols that are associated with vanity (the literal piece of furniture and the surrounding accoutrements, not the concept of) and toiletries just don't do anything for me.

The Firefly pegasus pose has the best wings, even if they don't look connected to the body, but that weird hoof outline on the bent leg drives me insane to the point that I can't display those ponies on that side. The Locket pose is the cutest pegasus pose but has the worst wing sculpt (next to the baby Lofty pose).  The Heart Throb pose has really solid wings, but ponies in that pose always remind me of bored teenagers, just kinda staring at you. Silently judging.

The Tiny Bubbles mold and the baby Ballerina mold have the friendliest faces of all the ponies.

Thanks Clipper :) That's very helpful.

It was rather helpful... thanks Clipper but rather less helpful for my wallet. hahah. At least I have the rest of the "I'll buy them when I get to it" ponies coming.  I would have felt like an idiot sitting on Batty Boo for all that time.

I need more blanks of these.  With dying them, do you repaint the eyes of protect them in some way?
I dyed a bunch and there was no effect on the eyes, much like the original ponies.

1. Live in Pittsburgh, PA, technically work in Boston, but clearly, remote. The Boston office is closing.
2. People are alternately panic buying or pretending it's not happening.  What are you going to do with an entire shopping cart full of toilet paper, there, lady?
3. There is no news except "nobody has been reported" in this area.  I am keeping a diary of sorts, just in case.

We have to be extra careful, my partner is on immunosuppressant drugs. I have two extra cans of Lysol and a freezer full of frozen pizza. I'm gonna call that prepared enough.

So, vaguely cautious, glad I already had a bunch of hand sanitizer and other cleaning supplies though.  We're kind of shut-ins anyway, so will probably be ok. I am sure if I gather up all the spare purses and luggage in this house I'll find another month's worth of half-used hand sanitizer.

Planning on spending the pandemic rehairing the 10 ponies I have sitting around to rehair.

I do have rather a lot of friends who are small business owners who are going to get hit hard in the wallet...they tend to own small gathering places and restaurants. I'm also kinda afraid to look at my 401K statement. but mostly I am very worried for people who don't have a safety net.

I am also thinking now might be a good time to get a flu shot.  Just so if I do get sick, I know what it's not.

G3: Kimono and Pinkie Pie. Bought them at Kay-Bee Toys at the same time.
Kay-Bee Toys crew!  That's where mine came from too.

G1: Twilight, Firefly
G2: Clever Clover, Berry Bright (who I need to replace)
G3: Kimono, Minty
G4: Applejack, Fashion style Applejack (they were purchased the same day, still have them)
G4 Reboot/Movie: Luna and Celestia...I am not even sure if they're legit ones. Weird pre-release ebay purchase.  If not, Twilight Sparkle and Applejack
G4.5/Pony Life: None yet, but it is probably going to be, let's face it, Applejack.  And probably Trixie, she looks funny and cute in that reboot mold.

Oh no!  What is happening with HQG1C that they need support? Or is this just an "in general" kinda thing?

I love their blanks, I just need to finish up the few ponies I am working on, including an alt-pose Ice Crystal.

ugh, be careful with Sunlight, folks.  Her magenta bow stains her butt.  What a waste.

I still pick up the simple figures of the characters I love, but I have no interest in owning every iteration of Applejack.

Man, ever since I saw the Uni&Pegs the one time NO WHERE to be found. Going nuts going to target 3-4x a week!

Wave 1 is still shelf warming with occasional restocks...less of the rainbows, but definitely still being restocked over here!

Also my parasol is TOTALLY discoloring! Her head is a different color than her body. Her body is more pinky and the head has a yellow tinge! :(

So annoyed about this.  My Parasol and Moonstone too.
