Walking through the winter wonderland
« on: August 25, 2014, 05:35:52 PM »
Stomper HATES being cold! :brr: :cold: With my poor thyroid function, I suffer from cold intolerance. Other people could be comfortable and I'm needing to put on my socks and/or my sweater. I wear socks 24/7 during the winter and even have to wear gloves indoors from time to time.

We do have a furnace and use that. We aren't allowed to use a space heater (conditions of our lease), or else I'd be using that fellow in the bathroom during the winter.

I also use a mattress warmer overnight to keep myself warm. I love that thing! :lovey:

We also cover our windows with plastic to prevent drafts or air leakage. I haven't really noticed any difference though. It's just as cold with or without.

What do you use? :fireplace:

Poor Stomper, you definitely need to stay warm!

I hate being cold too, but mostly because I was raised in So. Cal. where I didn't realized how lucky I had it until I left. Now I am always too cold.  We use forced air heat through an old oil furnace. We feel bad because you know, OIL! ALso it is RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE.  But switching to gas is way too much. In the winter we try our best not to turn the therm above 68, but sometimes I nudge it up a point or two just for a minute ...

We did get our windows replaced, which actually made a world of difference. (We had single pane 1920s lead glass windows before)

I hate the cold! I am born and raised in florida. My house does have central heating, but I don't use it that much (doesn't stay cold very long). Instead we have an electric fireplace, warm blankets, and of course the good 'ol snuggle with my golden retriever!

Oh you know, I live in Finland so we have: Underfloor heating, fireplace, air source heat pump, radiators, and of course the sauna. We are always very prepared for the winter. The cold doesn't stand a chance.

Born and raised in southern Cali. That aside because the area has a serious lack of weather (aside from hot, sunny, and a bit of rain). I like Stomper have thyroid issues so I'm always cold. Always. I can bundle myself up in a hoodie even during the Summer. During the winter I always like to sit around with an extra blanket or two and my bed always has extra layers. My friends know to keep an extra blanket in the car when camping or on long car trips. Just in case I need to bundle up.

Recently being on thyroid medication has helped but am still set to "cold". So long as I can put on jeans,a hoodie or socks am good to go.

Hmmm everything says my thyroid is normal but I am a "cold" person too.  :)  I wear 5-6 layers in the winter...

We have a wood stove in our basement that we use to heat our house in the winter. It's never cold. If anything, it gets too warm and we end up opening the windows to cool down.

Space heaters, furnace, and many many layers (clothes, blankets). I end up "cocooning myself" in the blankets (as Raijha calls it)... sometimes to the point of needing help to get out of it.

I haaaate the cold. Even in summer I sleep under a comforter on the bed. In winter, we have a furnace, and keep it set to around 72 F. Which is still too cold, but heat is expensive! At night, it is three comforters on the bed, and a heating blanket if I have to sleep alone. Otherwise, hubby produces more than enough body heat.

It usually doesn't get very cold in Florida, and when it does I usually keep warm with multiple layers. My house does have central heating, but it rarely ever gets used.

Heated floors, yep can I visit your house? Actually going to Finland is on my "bucket list".
I love fall and winter plus cooler weather. My body is preset to "cold" so I have to double up on the blankets, layers, and run the heater.
