I customized a couple of G4s that are now hard to find and heh, hindsight and all :pout:Lol, I think I’ve done the same. Not sure what the rairity of a gilded Lilly is (I think that’s her name? The yellow alicorn one), but it was my second custom. Not even that great, awful paint job and I didn’t even get all the hair out.
Like, I chopped off my Dewdrop Dazzle's horn and used the first edition Fashion Style Luna as bait... I'm dumb.
WHOA that G2 is horrifying, lol! Never seen one without the eye paint before but yeesh!!
When I was 18, my mother up and decided she was moving to Kentucky to get away from her horrible husband, and I decided I was moving out on my own and staying in Idaho. I ended up getting rid of a ton of stuff because I couldn't take everything, I didn't have much space in my new place (was renting out a room) so I got rid of all my pony houses and accessories. I had soo much stuff too, a lot of it G1. Ponies were my favourite as a kid so I had tons of ponies and stuff for them. It was either take just the ponies or take nothing, I didn't have room for them... So I just left them at that house, with that horrible man.
I don't regret getting rid of it all, while it was all really cool stuff I just don't have the room or need for it all, I just wish it all could have gone back to collectors... I think about that often.

I accidently faded some fading pink hair ponies hair from pink to white :yikes:This would probably make me cry. I love the "fading pink" hair on ponies.
First time I tried to take off the head of a pony with tail rust the head was glued on super securely and I thought I could loosen it with an exacto knife. I was too inexperienced and cut the neck plug clean off.
I think that's about it on the sort of...damage mistake front? I suppose the only other 'mistakes' I've made were not buying ponies I came across and regretting it later. Like a $5 Munchy and a $20 barn full of G1s I passed up on when I wasn't actively collecting. Is that like a Show Stable barn or like a real barn?!
I was nine years old in 2006, and getting into G1 ponies in addition to G3. I was visiting a friend and was amazed to see she had Mommy Sweet Celebrations, and since she didn't get played with, she was given to me. It was my first G1 pony, so once I finished cleaning it up and restoring it... I wrote "PROPERTY OF [FULL NAME]" aaaaallll across her left side under her symbol in sharpie. I was just so happy that I had a pony in my possession, even though I read all the collector websites about preservation I just wasn't thinking.OMG lol!
Ah well. Kids will be kids.

I was really upset when I realized what I did especially to my Desert Rose and my SS Twilight. :wail: Dessert Rose was an honest mistake because I didn't realize she had fading pink at the time but I thought I was protecting SS Twilight and her hair faded anyway.

Thank you Leave a Whisper. :) It's one of the things I still kick myself for from time to time

If it makes you feel better, I think sometimes it's also aging that fades these ponies. You can keep them in the dark, but if the pigment in the hair is weak, it will just fade with age. One of my SS ponies is also like this for no other reason, where others are absolutely fine.
I have a Sunblossom in the front of my cupboard and she gets a fair bit of light, but her hair has never changed a shade. But a pony that lived in the dark slowly lost hers...?
I dunno. But it may not have been your fault.
It’s not a drastic mistake, but I found for myself a princess royal purple at a shop. Her mane and tail were braided, so I figured I would just unbraid her hair when I washed and cleaned her up.
...yeah, turns out that braid was the only thing keeping her tail together. When I unbraided it, the whole thing just fell apart in my hands. I’m guessing it was some kid with scissors, but it gave me a fright, having pink hair and tinsels falling everywhere.
This one is painful and I've actually cried about it multiple times before
Years ago I found a G3 Styling size Rarity at a garage sale, she had awful hair the frizziest I'd ever seen.
I tried everything, conditioner, fabric softener etc. I ended up trying a flat iron. I melted her hair :<
Back then I was obsessed with customizing so I decided it wasn't a big deal, I took out all her hair and even removed all her paint
She's still in my drawer at my parent's house completely blank. I was younger then around 15 so I didn't really occur to me what I had done. I was pretty dumb.
It still eats me up sometimes but my boyfriend surprised me with one he bought on ebay (she is gorgeous with perfect hair) so now it hurts a little less
I need to get her back someday and actually make something of her

Oh no, that's such a sad story! I have had similar events - just recently, I tried to flat iron a super-frizzy fakie ... yeah, now she has frizzy hair with a big nice MELTED CHUNK near the bottom. I was so upset I put her in a box to deal with later! :lmao: She'll probably just get a nice little mohawk - but lesson learned for sure! Luckily Rarity isn't too rare (ironically), so I hope you feel better now!
This one still gets me.
I found wild ponies at the thrift store for first time ever! I was so excited I bought them all! One I was most interested in was Flower Bouquet! Still has factory curls, hair was faded but not completely white!
I took them home to give them all a proper cleaning. I even invited a couple friends over to show them what I found. In the middle of me cleaning them my power goes out because of a storm. We all lit small tea candles around the house and a few on the table I was using to clean the ponies.... well... that was huge mistake!
My friend asked if they could look at Flower Bouquet, Sure! Looked at her and placed her next to a candle and lit poor Flower Bouquet's hair on fire! :yikes:
I was so upset I cried lol!
