Thank you everyone. I showed someone who is knows more than I do, and she agrees that they probably aren't prototypes. I was 99% sure they are unfinished customs, but I just wasn't sure. Thank you to everyone who took the time to reply.

Hello everyone. I've been trying to do some research, but I can't really find an answer. How can I tell between a g1 prototype pony and a pony that someone was making into a custom, but for some reason was unable to finish? I know prototypes are rare, but they do pop up occasionally. There is someone somewhat local to me who is selling some that she swears they are prototypes. I can tell when it's a poorly executed custom, but I know there are some amazing artists who can make it look like the real deal. Thanks for any info.

I can't stand reviews on Amazon or eBay that are crap. I'm not talking about if a person leaves a bad review for a seller or a product, I look for those. I mean reviews that don't tell you anything. Such as, I'm starting to dabble in resin, so I look for reviews on the best brand. I hate when someone leaves a one star rating, then adds that they hadn't used it yet. Or, we recently ordered a hoodie online for my son. I was looking at the reviews for durability and how true to size they were. There were so many reviews that just said "I don't know, haven't tried it on yet". I wish if people didn't know an answer, don't waste the time. It's something that I can usually ignore. My mom and I share an account on Amazon, and I was going through some of the reviews she had left for some of the things I had bought (I don't usually leave reviews, which drives her crazy) and she left some like this. I had to edit at least 10 things.

Keep the childhood pony, you can't replace sentimental value.
Do you have room for non-display storage?
I don't really, but I'll make something work.

I have a dilemma that I think most collectors have from time to time. I've run out of room and I'm trying to decide which ponies to display. Would you display the childhood pony that's in pretty bad shape, but it was also given to you by someone who was very close, but has passed away. Or would you keep the one that you just got and has no sentimental attatchment, but is in much better shape? If appreciate any opinions.

I live in the thumb of Michigan and we've been doing it here. It's so much fun for everyone. It's really getting people off their phones and games and getting them out. And it's been great at getting families to spend more time together.

I've got both the Hong Kong and the China version of her. I didn't know that they were different for the longest time. I thought they were the exact same except one looked a little dingy. I love her.
I didn't know there WERE different versions : O What are the differences??
I didn't know either until last year. There are quite a few sets that have the two different versions. From what I can tell the only difference is that the China version looks dingy. But my Hong Kong version is from my childhood, so she isn't in the greatest shape. For quite a while I thought they were same pony, but one was dirtier than the other.

I live out in the countryside, so I have to drive everywhere, but I hate driving, so if my hubby is home, I make him do it.

My husband gave me the go-ahead last month to buy some ponies for my birthday. I don't usually buy any in the winter, because money is tight. But since he gave it to me, there haven't been any lots on ebay that I don't have the majority of, for a good price.

Mine started when I was about 5 or 6 years old in the early 90s. My family stopped at a church that was having a big garage sale, and I found an entire paper bag filled with ponies. I don't remember a lot of them that were in the bag except for Twist and Galaxy (who are still two of my faves). And I've been hooked ever since. I had to stop collecting for a few years due to money issues, but last year someone gave me a gift card for ebay, and that jump started my obsession once again.
