Pony Corral / Re: Flocking: Yay or Nay?

For me, both, but I'd NEVER remove nice flocking even if I already had a flocked version.

Introductions / I'm BAAACCCKKK! (again!)
« on: March 01, 2024, 03:13:20 AM »
Hey lovely pony people, I'm back after my second hiatus from this place!

My latest hiatus was due to me finally having my rainbow baby and having to go back to work afterwards, and the constant exhaustion of being a working mum didn't leave much time for ponies. I'd already decided to stop actively collecting, just passively picking up stuff I saw in person, but honestly ponies fell to the wayside as I stopped having the energy to go thrifting on weekends anymore. Several stops on my route have since shut down as well, or re-organised to have less toy stock, so ponies aren't something I find very often at all.

Late last year, I had my youngest son. Unfortunately he has cerebral palsy, and a heart condition, so I've been unable to return to work. This has forced a change in lifestyle again, and we've been finding more affordable yet fun ways to spend our weekends, like flea markets, etc. No ponies yet, but a few weeks ago I found a complete Lady Lovely Locks Puzzle for $2, and the itch started to creep back in. Then we reorganised our under stairs storage, and there were a bunch of ponies I'd never got around to selling... and I figured I should probably sell them. So I started going through it all, and well I've missed it. So if I'm going to be at home caring for my boys, I need an outlet too, and while I love a good video game, I'm getting a little burnt out. Ponies feel like the right answer. It's a wholesome community, a fun hobby, and I can enjoy ponies whenever it suits me, around the care needs of my kids.

So here I am, back again, to my internet home.

I was so excited when the g3 glitters came out, but alas, the plasticiser leak destroyed the glitter on them all. I can't go past the g1 glitter babies. I adore g1 babies, theres just something about them, and adding glitter to the mix... omg. however OG Star Hopper was amoungst my first MLP's, so that set holds a place in my heart as well.

The Eternal Blue album by Spiritbox.

For me it's G1 minty, and I've never actually seen a non mail order G1 Twinkler, I only have the MO one, and even before that, her placeholder was a super baity MO version.

Pony Corral / Re: Safely displaying ponies with accessories?

Ooh, complete chap mei, very nice!

With chap mei's, I've found that they do stain VERY easily. Like from when I first bought mine in the 90's, straight out of the box, stained. However, in saying that, It does seem to be the metallic pink/red accessories that are the main culprits. As you know, the necklaces aren't removable, and I haven't seen one of this girl with any staining, and I've had a few. However, lots of the ponies with pink or red accessories seem to be stained. If I was displaying a full set, I'd probably gear up those with gold accessories and with the pink/red, but them beside. They do stain very easily, and I honestly don't know that tissue paper would be enough to save them. That is if you can get the stains out to begin with, I've had to sunfade a few chap meis to get the stains off from new, because they came packaged with saddles on (not crowns though thankfully)

Oh My Gosh! KT! I loved that sooo much! I have always wished I had the space for a diorama type setup similar to KT, for pony photos and the like. I used to read it all the time, and I've been back a bunch of times for nostalgia's sake and to catch up. I'm so glad that as the creator you've managed to get where you want to be in life, not only achieving your own goals, but bringing so much joy to others. Your work sounds amazing, I loved dinosaurs as a child, and it's translated to a love of all the mysteries of old as I've grown up.

Pony Corral / Re: collecting ponies you didn't mean to collect.

Mine was so softs, because I'm big on restoration but keeping original (so no rehairing or repainting, just cleaning and styling to factory basically) and you really can't do that with so softs, they're more of a deflock or nothing kind of deal. But I got a couple of big lots with some nice ones, and now I collect them? But I'm kinda fussy, I like them nicer than my average fixer-upper-er ponies. Usually the bargain hunt and then the fix is the fun, but with so softs it's a different criteria. I'm a so soft snob, haha!

Eucalyptus oil works a treat on plastic, glass or metal products.

Pony Corral / Re: The Fakie Appreciation Thread! Show us yer Fakies!

Hi friends!

I stumbled upon a fakie and I'm wondering if someone can help me ID her (Google failed me)

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

She only has her cutie mark on one side, her head can rotate, there was a bow in her hair, her tail is rooted, her hair smells like those plastic Christmas garlands, her hair is very easy to curl, her left hind hoof has "L-12-B(or 8)7"

I saw similar ponies in family packs at Woolworths. They may have come from there, although similar packs pop up everywhere around Christmas.

I love the lucky ponies, I used to have the pink one, but I sold her (to someone on here from memory) and bought some more Simbas. I really need to do a collection photo shoot and figure out exactly who I'm missing for my wish list, it's getting to the pointy end now!

I have the latest batch of DVD releases of the new dub for Sailor Moon, but I haven't watched them yet. I prefer the new(original) naming and the original intent to the storyline as I was always a manga fan, but the music just doesn't work for me and I just can't get into the scenes as much. I fear crystal may be much of the same vibe, and so I haven't bought those yet. I do have a full set of the manga though, the one with the boxes with the beautiful manga art.

Has anyone seen the new Broly movie? I've been holding off until I actually get around to catching up on DBS, I've only seen season one so far, the whole tournament of power concept is a bit boring to me. Although I'm definitely reconsidering spoilering with the movie, with Vic being fired from Funi, we might not see much of his work for a while, and dammit, he's a great VA! I'm totally annoyed about him losing RWBY too though, Crow will NOT be the same with a different VA, and I'm not going to watch it anymore. I really can't stand it when they switch actors mid-series, regardless of how good the direction is, the character always comes across as wrong. It's an original series, just kill him off and then fire him. Same result, and it doesn't completely ruin the show for fans.

I'm really excited to see the castings for the new fruits basket, with most of the english cast returning. I think Momo's VA might be the only new face so far?

No then, and no now. They don't get to be in my collection, they weird me out with their jumbo heads... I get them, clean them and they go straight into the trade bin.

There is one bit of merchandise I'm desperate for though...

The DVD that came with the convertible in the US. It's on my media grail list. I NEED it!

Pony Corral / Re: In Your Opinion, How Successful Was G4 During Its Run?
« on: February 11, 2019, 03:22:54 PM »
Ponies always went like hotcakes in the early days of G4, but things have slowed down, since well before the reboot and the movie, and honestly, the movie didn't really do much for sales here either. There wasn't all that many showings, the closest one to me was an hour away, and I'm in a capital city - we had none here, in my city at all, just one in a shopping centre cinema on the south coast. So I waited and bought it on DVD, and by then, the hype was long gone, and the toys were everywhere, just not moving terribly fast. Christmas helped, as did some clearance sales, and there are still a few dregs in stores now, but not much. Just those glitter ponies, a few hippogriff babies, the singing ponies, and the cutie mark crew blind bags. and that's where stores haven't dropped them completely. Leftover stock is turning up in cheap shops, that's where I'm usually seeing the hippogriff babies, and they're not moving there either. MLP is pretty much dead in my area, the only new stock in forever is the cutie mark crew stuff.

Pony Corral / Re: What to do with Extra Long Hair
« on: February 10, 2019, 03:01:37 AM »
For me it depends on the pony. G1s, I generally try to keep it original. G2s, I generally go with the classic leg wrap, and with G3s and G4s I tend to braid or wrap into buns, because they had TERRIBLE box hair (with the exception of precious gem), so there was nothing to preserve, so whatever looks best for display and to keep it tidy if they are in storage.
