Taobao trouble?
« on: May 07, 2012, 07:56:56 PM »
Ok, I might have this in the wrong place...IDK...if I do, can someone move it for me, pretty please?

I was cruising around Taobao to see what all these MLP purchases were about, since everyone seems to be finding some good stuff there...though now that i am looking at it, (translated to english, of course, in handy dandy chrome) it looks really confusing and I am having a hard time figuring it out.  Maybe it's just cause it's late and I'm tired...idk.  I just can't seem to get it.  xD  Am I missing something?  Also, is it just me, or do the prices seem ridiculously high?

The prices are in Chinese yen, not dollars. You need to convert them :) And most people buy from Taobao through an agent, not directly from Taobao.

I don't know how buyfromtaobao.com is agent-wise-- I've never completed an order from them (Still holding out for a :muffin: Pony restock!). They do have a neat widget that lets you search Taobao in English, though! It's worth checking out.

Chinese-to-English translation isn't exactly seamless, so you might run into further confusion along the way. Depending on your TaoBao agent, they can help answer your questions about the products you're bidding on, too. :)

I've never personally ordered from Taobao, but I know some people do here and go through agents.  People talk about it a lot on the Corral.  Maybe someone can give you agent recommendations, or hopefully those who have will find this thread.

I recommend taobaonow.com as an agent. Everyone I've heard about ordering from them has either received their order or gotten their money back if the item was out of stock, and the people working for the site are good about answering questions :) I don't know much about other agents, I've heard some are more legit than others, and some speak better English than others too.

I reccomend dollypoodle as an agent, if you're looking for one. and the prices are in chinese yuan, not USD.

I know people who use smalltao.com without problems. I've never bought from taobao though.

I would *love* a Taoboa q&a thread.  I only just started poking around on there, and while part of my brain is saying "MUST HAVE ALL THE PRETTIES!", there's another part that's saying "Crystal, don't do it, you'll manage to screw it all up."
