Title: new Rainbow Brite dolls/toys!!! do you live near a Hallmark store ?
Post by: Galactica on April 07, 2015, 11:37:26 AM: I'm pretty happy- it appears that Hallmark is going to try making some new Rainbow Brite toys starting in August of 2015!

I especially LOVE Twink (the white plushie guy) but I would also like the doll, Starlite (although he looks a teensie bit weird), and the minikin figures-

EDIT:
~~What worries me- is that the stuff will apparently be sold only at certain stores-~~ Apparently this is the list of Hallmark stores that currently carry some new Rainbow Brite Merch (t-shirts, etc):http://rainbowbrite.net/Hallmark-store-list-Rainbow-Brite.pdf It is not necessarily the list that will get the dolls and toys- there may be a wider distribution, we just don't know yet!

So Katie of RainbowBrite.net is going to keep us informed once we have an idea where the toys will be appearing. (Personally I hope we can order them online, since I don't know of a Hallmark store nearby.) Once I hear something I will pass it on to you! (Or you can check rainbowbrite.net on facebook or on their website for updates :D)

BIG UPDATE! THE ITTY BITTY Plushies are now up on Hallmark.com! (4 days earlier than they had said) Looks like these will be online exclusives - hurry and get them before they sell out! http://shop.hallmark.com/rainbow-brite/?searchkey=rainbow%20brite

It is looking like the other dolls/plush might show up online as well- I am super grateful as finding a Hallmark store can be somewhat difficult for me :D

However, I don't collect Rainbow Brite. It was a great idea sharing the list of stores though, so that fellow collectors can have a heads up! ^.^

Also I think that Rainbow Brite doll is just a stock photo of the vintage doll- so there is no way she will look exactly like that.

I do hope they fix Starlite...

I also just found out that the store list is what is currently carrying some new Rainbow Brite Merch- the distribution of the toys may be wider (and it may not) - but the sweet gal at Rainbowbrite.net will update us when she knows :D

Don't panic yet- I had the same reaction and Katie (the person who has been apparently communicating with Hallmark) says that they don't know the distribution of the NEW products yet (the dolls and toys) and that the list above is just for the Rainbow Brite products that are already out (some t-shirts and the like- no toys)

Hi Sukey! I am on there once in a while- as Galacticatt :D
But the forum is mostly inactive these days- so not so much

Remember that the DOLLS and toys aren't expected until August- the only thing that is there now, are things like tshirts/canvas bags- non toy stuff.

Post by: Majesty on April 08, 2015, 12:01:51 PM: I like how they're trying to recreate the retro version but Rainbow Brite doesn't seem to have a full ponytail, just sort of hair down with a small pony tail appearance I think, but can't be 100% yet. Also, Starlight looks really skinny and his head is small and his neck is long.

Cool, I thought the name was similar- I just didn't know if that was you or not. You're the one with the really awesome Rainbow Brite collection aren't you? ;)

Yeah, I was hoping to get some t-shirts,mugs, etc. I think my friend is going to our nearest corporate Hallmark store tomorrow and I told her to contact me if she does :)

I made these a long time ago. It is very hard to pull these horses apart! Some I have found that I couldn't pull them apart....

Mattel actually did make both Sunriser and Starlite using the barbie horse mold- but they are pretty hard to find. I made a custom once by cutting the tail and hair out of a very ruined plush- and poking it down into the mane cavity and tail- I then applied "flocking" - I thought it looked pretty good as a placeholder. I did after many years finally find the real thing.

There were only three- and they are exclusive to "Feeln" this streaming thing that is like Netflix (It's $3.99 a month) if you go to www.rainbowbrite.com- you are redirected to the site. The characters are updated- but pretty cute.

Probably best to do it on a breyer then, or some other brand with molded hair. I love Skydancer too, never cared much for Onyx

The toys actually were designed before the cartoon- they originally wanted Skydancer to be black, and his mold was the Mattel "black beauty" mold. But apparently that mold failed the "drop test" at some point, which is why Mattel switched to the other mold. They also switched his color to purple. Neat eh? Too bad they never put him into production-

I do hope the new Rainbow Brite line does well and they make a LOT more characters! I am pleased that Indigo already is included in those little figures-

The shirt will probably be too small unless they have a decent 2X. But the plush doll I want!

They are all prototypes- I bought them from one of the guys that worked on the production samples (prototypes) in the 80s. They used to do that kind of thing locally, now of course the factories do it.

I really hope they do make her and other characters, I'm totally doing my part in August in helping sales of these good well. :silly:

My local Hallmark store just closed down with out any warning! :wail: I have no idea where the nearest store is now because we always went to the one here in town. The nearest one is probably going to be at least half an hour away. Too far away to run over there every couple weeks. :cloud:

Went to my local Hallmark and they confirmed that only the Woodbury location has RBB stuff. That's like 25 minutes from here! Way too far to pay retail on not-pony. :/

A 30 minute drive to buy something I want? That's nothing! :P I'm willing to travel two cities away (about 45 minutes) if need be.

We've been living here for 3 years now, and I've never seen anything rainbow brite, not even at thrift stores. It's depressing.

Hallmark is probably an hour away from me, but mostly it is rotting in slow traffic that gets to me. I don't mind driving through the country so much, in fact, when my parents come to visit Seattle (up from California) I take them driving through the backroads (they are so impressed to see things like TREES everywhere, and "water coming right out of the ground!" Lol

But yeah- driving CAN stink. I am just grateful that the Itty Bittys and plush look like they are going to be available online! YAY!

lol it comes from living in rural Kansas, I'm pretty sure those who live in canada and such larger areas can beat that time to get to a specific store XD

The ones online were "special editions" with minor differences from the main line. Specifically:
• No sparkly bases on the itty bittys.
• Rainbow Brite has a blue star on her cheek.
• Twink is missing the color green in his rainbow.

The CLASSIC versions will be in stores in August - and will have minor variations- sparkly bases, and Rainbow's star on her cheek will be green.

It does not look like Lucky or Champ will be in the Classic Release- so if you didn't get them yet- get them now! (I don't think these two are sold out yet)

More toys will be released (including other color kids for itty bitties, and the large doll, and large sprite and Starlite) - depending on how well the line is doing. So if Rainbow Brite is looking like a shelf-warmer, we might not see the new characters. But given how quickly the first wave of Itty Bittys sold out, I don't think that is going to be a problem after all- so yay!

We don't have target in Canada anymore unfortunately. I've been looking on ebay and the only listings I see have the movie at $50-$70, as far as the series goes, I haven't seen a copy that's region 1 compatible yet.

I'm hoping they'll re-release them again. I haven't had a chance to watch the new series. Feeln isn't available in Canada, I know I could get around that but it seems silly to pay for a subscription service for 3 episodes.

Have you seen how crazy the prices for the itty bittys are on ebay now? I was watching a listing for Rainbow Brite, she was $21, next day I look and she's at $70 and yesterday she was at $137 :shocked: I couldn't believe it.

These people have no soul. They take something intended for children and put a price on them that no parent could afford. When Disney did a massive Frozen restock I was over joyed, not because I wanted to buy any of the merch, but I liked seeing the resellers get stiffed. What a bunch of a-holes!

If you look on the Hallmark.com site, it explains that the "exclusive" versions were available online- but the same exact characters will be released at stores AND online in the Fall- with only teeny minor differences (a shiney fabric butt or a different color star on Rainbow Brite's face)

It drives me crazy to see people paying so much for the Itty Bittys when there will be limitless supplies of them if they can wait just one more month...

I think they often don't know the exact date, they just have an estimate from whatever factory they are shipping from.

To be clear the Itty Bittys are expected in August- the other toys just say "this fall"

I keep drooling over that plush Twink, I hope he appears next month!!!!

Yes, it is the same. SO LAZY. And I don't even like the ornament, Rainbow looks off... I wish if they were going to do a re-release, they would have at least re-done the Rainbow riding Starlight, which was much cuter.

SO I guess I have a future 40 mile trip planned should they arrive in the store before arriving online! (I sure hope they show up online soon!)

My mother passed away back in January and I recovered some of my childhood toys when I had to sort through the house, my Rainbow doll was one of them but somehow she went missing in the moving of stuff from Oklahoma to Florida. So I suppose the new release can take her place.

This one looks like a handmade version someone made for Etsy. :lol: And while Rainbow Brite's dress is a mess and her feet are large, I think her face is adorable. I'm not sure why they changed her, though. The "Concept Only" version on the first page looks very much like the original doll.

I am thinking her face will look better if I remove her lipstick- I think it makes her look kind of like she is grimacing... they also sewed her skirt on way too high but I am hoping that maybe the post production doll won't look like that...

gonna say I think Rainbow is cute here, she almost looks exactly like the original doll except updated slightly. I just checked my doll I have and the expression is almost the same 0w0 kinda look the smile's just not going up as much. and yeah the feet are a bit larger than what they should be.

Rainbowbrite and Twink look almost classic. As for Starlight...I wish Breyer would do Starlight, Skydancer and Sunrise at this point. They're such beautiful horses but the toys they make of them are ugh!

Starlite won't be released till October and Rainbow Brite won't be released till November. And as far as I can tell the corporate stores get the stuff in first. My local Hallmark didn't get anything RB in, but a corporate store that I went to out of town to had lots of RB merchandise. And yet another Hallmark store in the same city didn't have anything, because it wasn't a corporate store.

I think Amy's are the corporate Hallmarks, but Maybe Tina's is, too. If you call and ask them they will tell you and they will hold Rainbow Brite stuff, too! That's how I got my Twink- I had to go out if town to get him and they held him for me.

They also had the giant Rainbow Brite but I couldn't find a price on her and didn't bother to ask since I'm low on cash and have no where to put her. I'm hoping to make another trip out to hunt down another Hallmark store and hopefully I can find RB, Twink and IQ. Sadly the Hallmark website doesn't ship to Canada so I might be out of luck.

They have re-released the movie quite a few times, I know I bought it on dvd just a few years ago for $10 at Target. I think there are no movies to buy right now since Hallmark is trying to make some headway getting people to sign up for Feeln (like netflix) - if you get that, you can watch the old movie and the newer revamped cartoons.

She really is SO CUTE! I didn't realize she was an online exclusive- I bet that they will release her in a SLIGHTLY different format (non-glitter bottom maybe) in stores-

That sounds like my area- all of the local Hallmark stores closed and the closest one is PAST the mall, a 30m or longer drive south. They are nice and will save things for me, but that is quite a treck round trip and there is often traffic...

But my friend in Toronto has 3 stores within easy driving distance and they seem to have received all of the Rainbow Brite loot first. I suspect they will eventually have Shy Violet available someway to Canada, but it would be terrible if she sold out...

Kinda like the very first "limited edition online exclusive" characters. They were eventually released with minor changes later on. I have a feeling the limited edition online exclusive releases are to test the market before ordering a bunch for the stores...

Kinda like the very first "limited edition online exclusive" characters. They were eventually released with minor changes later on. I have a feeling the limited edition online exclusive releases are to test the market before ordering a bunch for the stores...

I really hope this is the case. I will be perfectly happy to see the rest of the sprites and color kids get released in stores.

They had a giant itty-bitty (now thats an oximoron for ya lol) for $120! I can do pickups if you have a paypal, just bug me if there is a character you can't find. Like I said, I've got 3 stores near me xD I keep checking them for nemo goodies so its no problem. I actually really want this starlite plush in the picture! I wish I could help everyone out with shy violet but they aren't sold in stores.

If you live in the US, most of the stuff is in stock at the Hallmark.com store. I didn't think that shipping was particularly high (I've ordered everything through the web store)

They were shipped THAT DAY and I got them in one day! They really are so cute- even my wife loves the horses (I didn't show her Stormy, as I have too many dolls, haha)

Stormy is cute too though- she is VERY much based on the cartoon and not the prototype doll. I think they did a great job!

I wish though that they'd make the dolls 11" instead of the bigger size (they'd fit on the horses better!)

I hope they do more characters. I need some more rainbows right now.

Post by: Galactica on December 12, 2016, 11:12:26 AM: The horses are a little smaller than the original 11" horses- but they would still fit well with the 11" dolls. The horses (as you can see in the photo) are way too small for the big dolls.

I just checked the Hallmark.com site and they now have a Starlite Itty Bitty and STORMY Itty Bitty up there!! I really want Stormy but it appears she is only available in a doll/book set... I don't really want the book...

It worries me just a little, as it seems like '80s nostalgia items are kind of fleeting "pop culture" type things, and therefore they will be considered old and not trendy before we get everything we want...

but on the other hand, Rainbow Brite has now been around so long now (with so many remakes) that maybe it should be considered classic enduring iconic brand? I hope so!

I'm hoping for Moonglow the Dark Princess and Kitty Brite :D

FYI Puppy and the super cute carrier are on the Hallmark.com site now (I asked my wife to get me the carrier for Christmas, hehe)

I hope they add the baby sprites and the Murky & Lurky book- so cute

Awesome! Wish they shipped to Canada. Either way it looks like I won't have them in time for Christmas but I'm sending hubby to check 2 Hallmarks on his way home from work tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

I wish there was a Hallmark store anywhere near me! Seems like there are lots in Canada, which is why it is somewhat baffling as to why Hallmark.com doesn't ship there...

I hope they list Murky and Lurky and the Baby sprites at some point- I got the carrier for Christmas and it is awesome!

My closest Hallmark is 25 min away and there are 2 by my hubby's work that are 45 min away. Better than nothing but not convenient to be checking regularly, especially in this freezing and snowy weather, lol.

Yeah, there is one that is about 40 minutes away for me, but round trip 80 minutes and WAY more if traffic... just too far to justify. I did go once, after calling in advance to see if they would have what I was looking for! I would definitely not go without calling ahead...

I finally broke down and got the Hallmark rainbow Unicorn (that Wallmart was evidently selling) and the little POP Rainbow Brite and Tickled Pink figures, that Kmart had, on the secondary market. I would have loved to find them in person, but never saw them!

I was tempted- but I read the same comments. It's too bad they didn't remaster them. I have the episodes on some other DVD, but I suspect they are bootleg so I'd love to have a legit copy. I used to have some on VHS but no longer have a VHS player!

I watched most of them on YouTube and only remember a couple episodes not being good quality but that was probably due to them being copied from VHS copies.

I'll have to keep an eye out if I see it in any stores again. I haven't watched it yet so I can't comment on the quality.

That is a shame that they wouldn't make an attempt to clean it up before. Anything for a buck I guess :/

We got Puppy Brite for Christmas and picked up two carriers and a Murky/Lurky book (only one because she doesn't seem to care about the Itty Bitties). The baby Sprites were there too, but I am not sure if I am going to collect them. This was about a week before Christmas that everything was in stock.

I decided to buy the dvd from Hallmark since I don't want to open my special edition one. Watching it now. It's playing fine on my dvd/blu ray player. The colors are definitely washed out and the quality is not great so it doesn't look digitally restored or anything. I'm still enjoying it though. Haven't noticed any missing songs yet but I'm only on The Beginning of Rainbowland so far and it's been so long since I watched these I'm not sure if I would know if a song was missing. I'm really curious now to know if my special edition set is better quality.
