I know Nimrodel and her husband are into board and tabletop games, and Erick is huge on them as well. Maybe we can do some gaming as a side activity, for whoever wamts to? We have a moderate selection of tabletop games we could pick from to bring.

Pony Corral / Re: Why Do YOU Collect My Little Ponies?
« on: June 08, 2018, 07:04:34 PM »
When I was a kid I loved toy horses, both realistic and fantasy ones. I used to play with them all the time. Along with some Barbie horses I only had a couple of fakies that I thought were real, and I also watched the show. Later I put my toy horses down the basement when I got too old for them. Then my mom, my sister and I eventually set to work cleaning out the basement, giving away a lot of childhood toys to Salvation Army.

A little later G4 began, and I started watching it and thinking back on my childhood ponies.

Years passed and I was home from college for winter break. Christmas had always been an overwhelming affair for my family, and what I did to relieve stress was clean. This time I had decided to clean out my closet, it acted as a storage that was about to burst. Lo and behold, way in the back at the end of my cleaning session I happened upon my box of childhood ponies, the very ones I was sure I had donated way back when. Apparently my mom had convinced me not to give them away with everything else. She knew they held more sentimental value compared to other toys, and were something that belonged to me alone, since I shared most toys with my sister.

I was hit with such a strong wave of nostalgia, finding them after believing I had donated them years ago. I had never experienced this kind of feeling before.

They weren't in the best of conditions so I cleaned them up, and after the reunion I began collecting G1 ponies and some fakies! The end.

That is a very good story :) What a special moment! I keep on hoping I will randomly come across my childhood ponies, but there is less and less of the basement left unturned as the years pass by, lol.

Mine aren't very impressive - a Baby Crumpet from Goodwill for 50 cents, and two MOC G2s (Sky Skimmer and Morning Glory) from a flea market in Buffalo, NY.

I'm thinking it was a last-minute cleaning attempt in a less than ideal [not clean] environment, with absolutely no drying time

I recently got a pony that reeked of smoke, mildew and other things, and was soaking wet inside the bubble mailer. When I finally got the guts to open it up I found like, an inch of nasty water inside. I had to take it outside and literally hose it down!

I just watched the Hello Kitty episode with my Japanese mom who was a kid in the 70's. We loved it, since we both grew up with Hello Kitty :) She kept on saying, "I had that! I remember that character!" etc. Between her and my wisecracking boyfriend, it was honestly hard to follow along, lol.

Pony Corral / Re: What's the weirdest place you've found a pony?
« on: May 12, 2018, 07:07:21 PM »
This isn't the weirdest place, but its where I stole/rescued a pony.  My mom used to be a kindergarten teachers assistant in the 90's.  I would sometimes meet her for lunch.  I saw poor Sunshine pony Sea Flower sitting on a shelf with marks and a mane cut.  Toy Story 3 was not out way back then, but poor Sea Flower now makes me think of that scene where the toddlers are being rough on the toys.  Well, without my mom seeing me(kids were in cafeteria for lunch) I stole Sea Flower away.  One of the first few ponies I got when I started pony collecting in the late 90's.  She helped start my pony mania.

I have a very similar story. I would spend my summers volunteering at the pre-K classroom where my mom was a paraprofessional. There was a game/task which involved pairing two objects and having the kids choose the right one. One of those objects was a very old-lady-looking Bonnie Bonnets! I convinced my mom to swap Bonnie for a G3 Pinkie Pie I had :D The poor pony definitely looked like she was ready to retire.

They look awesome! I'm very excited for Sunlight. She's the only one of this set that I have, but mine is super baity. I'd love a brand new one to have next to her!

I think youth really has to be considered. I understand many Bronies wouldn't have this excuse, but I'm sure a lot of them were under 14. I can see the younger factions being more simpleminded with their opinions. Kids are very likely to decide they don't like it, say, "ew, I hate it", then go on a tirade about how it sucks. Oftentimes it doesn't even matter what the thing they hate is, it's just the fun of hating something. It's stupid, but it's a kid thing, and one most grow out of. Hopefully.

You guys say it yourself, kinda. Wasn't there practically a war in the community when G2 came out, and the community was collectively younger? Over time as you guys got used to it, and as you all grew up and matured, the hatred and mudslinging probably slowed down/stopped.

Pony Corral / Re: Who Is Your All Time Favourite Pony?

I am really fond of my Rainbow Curl Ringlets because she was my first G1, and mt Flowerburst because she was the first (and only) pony to take my breath away.

But I also have a SDCC :muffin: Pony that's very special to me. I somehow ended up with two, so I gave one to my best friend that was very into ponies but didn't have her own collection. She loved it, and cut its hair to make it more accurate (!!!!!!!). Of course I had a mini heart attack, but didn't do anything to crush her excitement for :muffin: Pony's awesome new look. After all, I gave it to her and it was hers to do whatever with. Unfortunately, that friend passed away last year. When we were going through her things, I found that :muffin: Pony. So now Muffins lives with me again, and she will always have a special place above the rest of the herd :)

I started with G4, but really wanted to find a G1 in the wild. I kind of knew what they looked like; a bit like hippos to me, and had symbols on the butt. Those were my defining factors...So when I found my first one at Goodwill, Rainbow Curl Ringlets, I thought she was a fakie. Because her symbol was weird and not even on her butt! I was disappointed, then pretty confused when I tried to look her up on Dream Valley (defining features? Is she flocked? Uhh...what's that?), but ultimately it came around to being happy, because she was in fact a G1 :)

I agree with TheBeatlesPkmnFan42, Spring Song is really lovely :) Her sister, Flowerburst, is my absolute favorite pony ever, but she is definitely up there for me. Another purple pony I love is Baby Blossom.

Well, that is definitely unpopular!

I have a question, for those of you that hunt for fakies. Have any of you seen a large Cabbage Patch-type fakie, flocked, from the mid 90's? It was big, light purple/lavender body, with darker purple hair, possibly came from Walmart, 1995-1997. I've been on an eternal hunt for my "Mama Pony" from when I was a kid. I know for sure she was flocked, and big!
