This crabby pony's name is "Big Sigs." She's big, heavy, an eyesore, and slows everyone down. With micro-sized wings, she doesn't fly, either. She's the bane of the Arena's existence. We are calling on all members to help stomp out big signatures.

 These are the Rules:

All signatures must fit within an area 500 pixels LONG and 200 pixels HIGH.

Total signature "weight" must be less than 60k.

Signatures with no graphics may have up to five lines of text.

Signatures with graphics can have up to two lines of text.

One Ticker at a time - with NO other signature graphics or text.

Note regarding any click-to-grows (dragon eggs, etc) - limit is 3 without any other pics, and 1 with.

^^ All signatures must fit within that rectangle. You may have as many images as you like within it, as long as it fits. When your signature is too big, you can expect a visit from our olive-green gal there. She's awfully grumpy, too.

There are a couple of different ways to get your signature resized, just in case you find it difficult to do yourself.

 * You could PM SourdoughStomper, Kiwi, or Loa for help.

 * Or you could try this (http://www.picresize.com/) website or this (http://www.resize2mail.com/) one.

Remember: only you can prevent "Big Sigs" from paying you a visit!

 What does "weight" mean?

Weight - simply put - is the size of your picture. To find out the size of your signature pictures, right click (on the pic) and choose Properties. There you will see the size in either KB or Bytes. The TOTAL (all pics combined) weight is 60 KB (or 61,440 Bytes).

What types of pictures are the worst for being heavy weights?
PNG files, animations, and movie/video clips are the ones with the heaviest file sizes.

What options do I have to lower the weight?
PNG files are the easiest - re-save the picture in either a JPG or GIF format. Those are a lot lower in size.
Animations and clips - you can save to a lower quality. Might not look as great, but it should fit better.

If you still have questions about your signature, or are having trouble resizing an image, feel free to PM one of the above listed Mods/Admins, or post here, and we will try to help you out. :)

Strike system

All sig replacements are tracked individually - and each counts as 1 strike.

If a member reaches Strike #4 - their signature privileges are revoked for 1 week. This means you will not be able to access your signature at all.

After that week the strikes reset. If Strike #4 is reached a second time (a total of 8 strikes), signature privileges will be revoked for 1 month.

Afterwards the strikes reset once more. Should Strike #4 be reached a third time (a total of 12 strikes), your signature privileges will be revoked indefinitely.

Remember - your signature is a privilege, and you are expected to abide by the rules as you agreed to upon joining the site. If you are not able to do so, you lose that privilege.

Special Note: members that post in the Sigs forum to have their sigs checked, and do return to fix their sigs if needed, will not be hit by Big Bertha and thus will avoid getting a strike on their account.

If you need help or have any questions, please post here or PM SourdoughStomper or Kiwi.

Thanks to whatever sweet mod or admin put my book image in the "extra info" section. :) I really appreciate it!  I made my signature all text, and it's perfect.

Hi, is my signature alright?
Its an adoptable from an adoptable website called Chicken Smoothie... (I didn't put the URL down along in the BBcode)
CS pets don't need clicks to grow, they just grow within time ^^"

Is my Marilyn Manson horse too big? Dx or not allowed? (The items around him could be giving that "too big" illusion ._. )

Thanks in advance! XD

Sorry, it is much too big. The weight is 138.85 KB (limit 60) and it's too tall as well.

Sorry, it is much too big. The weight is 138.85 KB (limit 60) and it's too tall as well.
What can I say? Chicken Smoothie must be quite proud of their pets :P

How about now? The info on my MM pic says the weight is 4.9kb and is 159x160
As for the adoptable...idk, I don't know how to work with sig restrictions :s

I have my own limits, like don't have wallpaper or entire youtube vid as your sig

So how about now?
Title: Re: Your Assignment: STOMP big Signatures!
Post by: Kiwi on June 18, 2014, 12:42:51 PM
Yup looks good.

Basically you can right-click on a pic and select Properties - that will tell you the physical size and the weight (file size) of the image. Then just have to make sure it fits within our limits (as listed above). If you have multiple images, all combined together must fit within the limits.

Hi, could someone check my sig and give me a thumbs up.. the picture is now at 32K so hopefully its all ok.

I got a visit from big bertha and although I had a lovely tea party with her cuteness, I think I'm good for visits from her for awhile..

Hi there-  I just received a "strike 4"  but I never got a strike 1, 2, and 3?

Sorry for having a too heavy signature- but gosh! I remember having one that was too big when I first started the arena- but I don't remember getting a strike?

Just a little confused.
Title: Re: Your Assignment: STOMP big Signatures!
Post by: Kiwi on March 13, 2015, 10:26:06 AM
Each and every oversized sig replacement is a "strike".

You have had replacements on:
Aug 23/12
Nov 9/12
Jan 27/13
Mar 12/15

And of all of those, this is the first time you've asked for help with your sig.
Title: Re: Your Assignment: STOMP big Signatures!
Post by: Galactica on March 13, 2015, 10:30:23 AM
Actually- I did ask for help in 2012 when I first started and didn't realize there was a weight requirement-  and I believe SDS helped me re-size that adoptable.  It has of course been a very long time.

So even if you have been on the arena for many years- if the signature is heavy 4 times- you get strikes- and then on restriction?

I realize you guys are doing what you gots to do- but maybe give people a chance to make a mistake at least once year?  Just a thought.

Guess I'll stay off the Arena for a while- sorry for breaking the rule-
Title: Re: Your Assignment: STOMP big Signatures!
Post by: Kiwi on March 13, 2015, 11:30:25 AM
We have to set a limit somewhere. And everything is clearly listed. We except members to be responsible for their own sigs and ensuring they meet the limits, or ask for help in checking if they aren't sure. That's the entire reason this forum is here - so people can check, test, and ask for help. It's up to members to utilize it.

We don't want to discourage members from using the Arena, or having a signature - just to make sure it fits.

Before this was put in place, there were members that we had to do sig replacements on no less than 20 times, and they still didn't get the concept (even after direct PMs). Allowing 3 sig replacements before taking a firmer action seems like a reasonable number - by that point members have had enough gentle reminders. It doesn't take much time to check an image's size to see if it fits, or post in the Site Help forum to have someone check it for you (and avoid a Big Bertha strike).

The physical dimensions are fine, but the weight (file size) is still too big: 105.07 KB. Limit is 60 KB.

PNG files are notoriously huge. You could try saving it as a JPG, or use a compression rate on it when saving.

The physical dimensions are fine, but the weight of the combined images is over the limit (that is why your sig was removed).

#1: 60.64 KB
#2: 55.83 KB
total: 116.47 KB

limit is 60 KB total

Um is my sig ok?  I looked at the weight and it says it was like 1279 x 642 pixels and 423KB?  But it fits.??
I just don't want to get in trouble or break the rules.

Thanks,

WR

The info I'm seeing:

311.21 KB (318,678 bytes)
1,024px × 514px (scaled to 398px × 200px)

The second line is why it is still fitting - the Arena automatically sizes images from photobucket to fit the physical box size (500 x 200 px).

The problem is the first line, the weight is way over the 60 KB limit. So you will need to resize the image manually to fit that. PNG files are huge to begin with, so you could try a different file type - GIF is smaller but still allows transparency. And also resizing the physical size of the image will shrink down the weight.

I got a signature warning, so I took the second image I had out, is it okay now? I'm not too sure what it means by saying too heavy/the weight? I re-read the front page, whoops!

No, it is much too big - 531.37 KB. Gifs like that are not recommended, as they are very large files.

Just checking mine out - I removed part of the sig (I admit I did have two banners in there, oops) and it still seems to be showing as too big even though I now only have one banner remaining.

Or maybe ignore me, cos F5 is clearly my friend, I just never knew til now.

The size dimensions are fine: 263px × 200px
The weight is overlimit: 85.82 KB

Try resaving it as a JPG file type, instead of a PNG.

is it ok ?
Title: Re: Your Assignment: STOMP big Signatures!
Post by: Kiwi on September 07, 2016, 04:20:59 AM
No, it's sitting at 172.1 KB. You will need to actually resize the photo itself - right now you have a full size (1000+px) squished down to fit 200px, which does not change the size of the actual file.

If you meant the text above you're using the wrong code type. you want to use BBcoding instead of that.
It will look like [*url]www.codeandlinkgoeshere*.com[/*url] without the stars.

Your image is 25K and 90px x 43 px.

Also, if you quote this, you'll see the BBcode that's needed for the forum, instead of HTML code. (Assuming this is the spot you are using for hosting this image?)
