Pony Corral / Re: POTD 9/29/2020 Autumn Skye

The Celebration year was strong across the board for G3, but she's one of the very prettiest IMO. :) I first got her in a two-pack with Minty, then my mom surprised me some ten years later by finding her single release MIB at a garage sale. I like to think of her as a sort of laid-back yet adventurous pony, going wherever the wind blows and blogging about her #vanlife. :lol:

Pony Corral / Re: POTD 9/28/2020 Windy

I have her, but she was always "Breezy" to me because there was only One :rainbow: True :rainbow: Windy, and I hadn't learned the word "sylph" yet. :lol: She struck me as a sort of ephemeral nature spirit type pony who heralded the changing of the seasons. An easy association for me, since both spring and fall are accompanied by very strong winds in the places where I grew up. I imagine her theme was quite a bit more puzzling for kids in gentler climates. :lol: She's probably my third favourite MM, after Magic Hat and Mirror Mirror. The Magic Message ponies in general have such wild color schemes. There's rather an overabundance of green and coral shades in the set which is... a bold choice. :blink:

Her symbols still work, but I don't like to mess with them too much. I don't know what Hasbro was thinking by encouraging kids to rub them to activate the heat-sensitivity. That's way more destructive to the delicate surface than, like, hugging them to your cheek or whatever. Not sure if the tech was mouth-safe at that point, like the Sweet Kisses ponies, but still... For many kids, "rub to reveal" often devolved to increasingly hard scrubbing followed by compulsive picking.

I knew rubbing would never work for me, as I have terrible circulation in my hands, so I used the hair dryer. :P Touch-free techniques keep the symbols pretty nice though. Thank goodness Hasbro didn't make scratch-n-sniff symbols -- they would be a wreck! :lol:

Pony Corral / Re: POTD 9/25/2020 Meadow Moon
« on: September 25, 2020, 03:41:27 PM »
I love her symbol, how the moon over the rolling hills resembles a budding flower so that she fits in with her set-mates. ^.^ It's such a delicate, thoughtful design -- a rarity among the cut-n-paste flower/butterfly/hearts/bows pap that G3 was churning out during the Crystal Princess years -- and it's sadly rather wasted on such a tiny little rump.

Pony Corral / Re: Pony brand collabs- what do you desire?
« on: September 25, 2020, 03:22:24 PM »
Well, this seems like it might be unpopular, but my first thoughts focused around kitchen-y brands like Corelle, Pyrex, Wilton, etc. I'd love to have some MLP dishes that aren't cheap kiddie melamine or delicate vintage ceramic, especially if it's G1. And there really needs to be more pony-themed cake pans, cookie cutters, muffin cups, etc. I mean, for real, Pinkie Pie would be so disappointed. -_-

I think I must officially be an Old, because the idea of "brand collabs" being more crossovers with other toys/games didn't even occur to me. :lol: Or maybe I'm just hungry. :lookround:

Pony Corral / Re: G3 price check Diva Tink
« on: September 25, 2020, 03:10:43 PM »
She doesn't come up for sale very often at all, so it's not surprising that her current value is hard to pin down. :) I would personally expect to pay around $100, but I really like the "diva" pose and other people hate it. Sorry that's not definitive advice, but maybe it helps a little bit. ^^;

Oh how interesting... I enjoy my halfsies Sparkler the way she is, but I'm sure I'll end up getting both anyway because I'm a sucker. :P

I wonder if they're also getting the darker pink Heart Throb along with new Sparkler. BF had said that future batches would be "corrected" but I didn't think we'd see it so soon. Maybe pale Heart Throb will turn out to be the scarcer version, like dark Bow Tie.

Oh the Ponyville plush prototypes are cute!  :lovey:  I love the different fabrics used. The ragdoll-style G3 plushes were my favorites, back in the day. Too bad they never made more than three characters.

Looks like she designed a lot of the more creative pony stuff, like the con exclusives, despite working during the "bore seven" years. Thanks to her, I still had a few things to be excited about in 08/09! :lol:

Love the dark blue glitter on the symbol! But I'm glad they went with white glitter for her horn -- painted horns (and hooves) twinge my fakie-sense. (Seems like painting her eyes wasn't in question either way :lol:) I'm glad she snuck out the back door so we could see her. ;)

I have her. I love the unusual tone of her hair, but that's all she really has going for her imo.

This was a tough choice. I like the whole set, but my least favorite is Caramel Crunch. Something about her body color isn't quite right for me. I think it would be more harmonious with her red hair if she were a softer lavender, but all the ones I've come across are varying shades of puce/mauve. Maybe she looked better when new?

I'm not an expert, just a fellow collector. I've been priced out of the FT game for a while, but unless things have drastically changed, I would set the original twelve (top row birds) at $5-10 and tropicals at $15-20, depending on condition. If the Fuzzy Tummies are clean, fluffy, and still tightly glued, then they can go for $25+, and the Fan Tails for $40+ if their fans are perfect with no rips, fraying, or peeling. No idea on the grubby little babies, as I've never tried to buy any. ^^;

Obviously, paint rubs, marks, and frizzy/faded/cut hair drives the price down, just like ponies. Broken or loose claw clips are good to note, but picky collectors will also look for body-feet color match (the bane of all mixed-plastic toys). The addition of a matching perch could bump up the price an extra $3-5 for regular ones or $8-10 tropical.

Here's a quick refresher of the names of your various 'Tails --

top row (L-R): Taffeta, Twinkle, True Love, Tippy, Tattle, Twilight
second row: Bouncy, Fluffy, Snuggle, Sparkle, Frosty (looks discolored, poor thing), aqua perch for Tricky (not pictured)
third row: Sea Breeze, Sunny, Tiddlywinks?, Teddy?, Tinkertoy? (bad with babies, sorry)
bottom row: palm perch & hot pink brush for Hula Hula, palm perch for Sea Breeze, white perch for Taffeta or Tattle, pink perch for Twinkle, blue perch for True Love (best guesses, since colors can look different in person vs screen)

Posting this PC over to the Toy Box section might get more qualified eyes on it, but hopefully that helps a little bit until someone has a more up-to-date take.

I hope to have her one day, preferably baity enough to justify deflocking and/or rehairing her. She's a bit too similar to Truly for my liking, and the idea of candy covered in gross dirty fur is just :X

Ah, memories...

Earth pony: Cotton Candy and Parasol

Unicorn: Glory and Windy

Pegasus: Skydancer and Heart Throb

Sea pony: Wave Dancer and Baby Splasher

Flutter pony: Never had or wanted any flutters as a child, I thought they looked weird :shrug: They've slowly infiltrated my adult collection via lots, but I couldn't tell you who was first.

Winger: High Flyer and Glow

Mer-pony: Seapony Rarity x2 (pearly brushable and styling size) I still don't like G1 or G3.5 merponies, but Rarity finally won me over. Now I have more seapony G4s than the four-legged kind! :lol:

Unipeg: If sea-alicorns count, then Seapony Twilight Sparkle. Otherwise, Princess Luna and... another Princess Luna ^^;

Breezie: Tra-la-la and Tiddly Wink, I think... Although I must've gotten the Petal Parlor with Zipzee around the same time :wonder: 2006 is kind of a blur...
