This is completely fascinating to me.  Hasbro makes two flutter pony molds in large-eye / small-eye versions and then, one year later, makes two different versions AGAIN for the second set of flutters!

I'm just trying to imagine how / why this happened.  I guess someone has to sculpt the molds before they're used . . . Maybe two people were on the job and they each had their individual preferences, or . . . ?

I just don't know, but wow.

It kind of throws for a loop any previous explanations to do with simple progress on a manufacture year out the window. 3 clear versions/moulds of the first set was already awkward enough but now 2 versions for the second set is awesome! It must have been different factories - perhaps for when they were manufacturing for the two main different US and non US markets.

I wonder if all 4 flutter poses were sculpted and prepared together but two were kept aside for the year after? That could explain why both sets had the same variations.

Not all of the first year flutters however got a second year release (although they come in both variations) and both of the second year poses were only released in the same year. If they were released side by side a year to year difference is possible.
