So I recently rescued and cleaned up a Fashion Style Fluttershy with REALLY LONG hair ( and weird twisty fabric too).
What do you do with really long hair? I am by no means a stylist, but do any of you make "up dos" so that the hair isn't just laying all over? It was braided when I found her but it was pretty wild, braided is nice I guess but doesn't it also eventually stick that way?
There's G3s with extra long hair - are there G1s too?
-
I wrap tails around a leg and wrap and tuck manes around and between legs.
-
I've never been a fan of long hair on ponies. I agree to just tuck it under the body. And tie it with a rubber band so it stays in place. It can be annoying to move a long-haired pony while dusting, and I when I set her back down her hair gets out... and then I never pay attention and try to set her down again and she falls over. "Oh what for?" She's standing on her hair! Especially on ponies with frizz. They LOVE to trip over their hair! (I'm looking at YOU, Glittering Gem!)
I was never good at braiding.
EDIT: Yes, there are long-haired G1s, like my infamous aforementioned Glittering Gem. :P The Brush 'n Grows had hair that could retract into the body though. You'd yank it to make it "grow" and twist the head to reel it back in.
-
I've never really done any hair styling with ponies. With Super Long Hair ponies (particularly the G3s), I just place them where their long hair can flow down and be noticeable. I really like long haired ponies so I like displaying them in such a way that shows it off.

Me too!
Otherwise, I'd wrap her hair around her front and back hooves :) Braids don't necessarily stick like that, but you might need to flat-iron the kinks out of the hair if you unbraid it after a very long time.
-
I'm quite keen on braiding. My SLH Petal Blossom has her hair in a braid wrapped around her head. You can also twist the hair and fasten it with a clip. I'm not the world's greatest hair stylist, I generally just play around with clips until I like how it looks :).

Firstly: I really love super long haired ponies. As in so much. I style their hair though, it's amazing fun. Here is Stripes after her spa day:

I either curl, braid, or tuck the hair between the pony's legs.
-
Put it in Princess Leia buns :) But yeah I wind the hair around the body, legs, whatever...
Got to be careful with Sparklesnap though - BACON PONY

I had some of my princess b&gs braided - still do actually - but that is mostly because of the quality of their hair not being perfect. I wouldn't do that to ones with beautiful hair, I store them a bit more carefully. I like the method of tucking hair around legs or tails and I keep my BnGs with their tails wound in usually.
The Fluttershy in question you're asking about I have too. Her hair is a really long mess and I gave up with her as it was starting to come out if I tried to do anything meaningful with it. So now she just sits on my shelf here at uni and stares at the window...
Her hair quality made her beyond me :/ I don't want her bald...(advice, be careful, not great quality hair).
If I had more shelf space I would display more long flowing hair. But you do have to be careful. Sometimes if you put them on shelves with the hair hanging down, they don't just get dust, they get dead bugs in the hair too. And that's icky. (For me, downright terrifying, actually - I've been known to throw dolls/ponies across rooms if they have dead bugs on them. Live ones, fine, but dead ones...eeew)
-
Banditpony, I did that once. When I first got back into collecting ponies in the late 90's, I found a Brush and Grow Bouquet. I thought this hair is nuts, and I cut her mane to a normal length. I regret it to this day, especially since shes one of the prettiest in that set.
-
My BnG ponies don't have it as bad as the SLH G3's do. The BnG ponies can just sit on a shelf with a slight curl in their hair, but the G3 I have is on the edge of a shelf so her hair can flow down. Perhaps I'll try making a super tight curl out of it.
-
I like this thread. I think it gave me ideas on what to do with my brush and grows hair. :) I know how to braid nothing fancy I have to see what I can do with them. :)
-
I like to curl hair. Also barrettes help to keep manes in control. Hair-do and great hair ponies have longer than standard hair as well.
-
I usually give ponies with long hair a running braid. It's basically just a French braid for horses.

Although neither of them have really long tails, which helps. I think Hairdo ponies just have thicker hair, I'm not sure if it's actually longer than other ponies from that time period? Maybe a little bit...?
Edit: Looking at the photos, yeah. It's longer ;)
Great Hair ones have mad hair. My Highlights' mane hangs over the front of the shelf in the cupboard...sometimes I think she's more hair than pony ><. Because it's crimped, it's really hard to keep it nice and neat...At one point I had it split into bunches but not now. But I don't really feel I can braid or curl it because the crimp will go, so I'm a bit at a loss with her.

The advantage with the hairdo ponies is that you can use their twisty thing to put their hair in a high ponytail and that keeps it out of the way, and it also means they look less like they have alien tentacles ;)

I had to Google that one too (wasn't familiar with Sparklesnap. In fact, I wouldn't have an idea that this is a pony name if it didn't come up here :P ), but once I saw pictures of her I immediately understood
NightGliderSA, your Stripes looks lovely! Did you do her hairstyling with bobby pins and straws? My long-dragging-on project to restore a messy-haired Stripes has finally reached the stage where her hair is straight, with the colours separated, but I haven't yet made up my strength to proceed to styling. I highly prefer how your Stripes' lower-starting and smaller-towards-the-ends curls look compared to the very even curls most straw-styled ponies have.
-
Sparklesnap is rather a bacon pony. But I'm not sure that requires extra care with the hair? XD.
-
Yeah I see whatcha mean now. Her symbol is interesting. And her hair is quite bacony. :P

Thank you! I don't actually use what one might call conventional tools most of the time. So while I do have curlers I didn't use them for Stripes. For her I used old twisty crayons (which no longer have crayons in them) and kleenex. I didn't take a photo of her spa day, but here is one of Daffidaisy having the same 'treatment'

Thanks for the tip (and also for the pic, it hels a lot to actually see how it's done!) NightGliderSA! :)

It's a pleasure!
Though it is sometimes hard to persuade non-pony people that such a photo is a HAPPY one (especially if you have their heads off) and that you are HELPING the ponies. It looks exactly as Taffeta said: extremely Torture Chamber-ish (MoooHaHAAAAA!) ;)

Wow lovely!

For me it depends on the pony. G1s, I generally try to keep it original. G2s, I generally go with the classic leg wrap, and with G3s and G4s I tend to braid or wrap into buns, because they had TERRIBLE box hair (with the exception of precious gem), so there was nothing to preserve, so whatever looks best for display and to keep it tidy if they are in storage.

Same. I don't really "do" anything with long hair, I just try to keep it out of the way as best I can. I had a Brush 'n Grow as a kid (Bouquet) and her hair was a real trial to me. I disliked it, to be honest.
