So I Detinselled a Pony for the First Time...
« on: May 01, 2012, 10:57:58 AM »
I'll usually leave the tinsel in if I feel it matches the hair appropriately, but with July Jubilee, it didn't do so very much.  They had access to red tinsel, so I don't know why they didn't use it.  Anyway, here she is detinselled:

She still has a couple of short, stray strands.  Since this was my first time trying this, I probably didn't do it the right way.  And tips on how to get rid of the smaller bits, or how to detinsel in the future?

Oh, and yes, I know detinselling reduces the value of the pony, but I don't plan on selling her, so it's okay. :)

You can use a pair of small nail clipper or really good tweezers to try to pull out the smaller parts from the root. She looks really great, though! Awesome job.

Have you seen her? :awake:

Aw, thanks!  Yeah, I tried with the tweezers, but not with the clippers.  I'll give that a shot!

She looks nice that way. The only advice I have is to pull it out from further down using a tweezers. I wonder if freezing her would make the tinsel less stretchy? Heck of a risk detinseling a birthstone G3 of all ponies. Not much value in them yet but in another 10 years is when you might kick yourself.

Yeah, well, like I said, I don't plan on getting rid of her.  Ruby is my birthstone, after all. :P

Besides, there are a lot of collectors out there who prefer ponies without tinsel, so maybe it won't matter too much.

Oooo!!!  Might try that with my Jubilee.  My birthstone as well, and DD's.

Good job. I wish I had time to get around to de-tinseling all my ponies... I can't stand tinsel. I for one would happily buy a de-tinseled pony, just cause it would mean I wouldn't have to do it myself. Lol

Same here.  I'd rather just enjoy the beauty of the hair color itself without all that shimmery crap in the way. XD

I love tinsel! I am all about as much bling as possible and tinsel brings bling!

However, I will admit that some ponies do look more classy without it and I think July looks fab without hers!
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
Loa is my love god!
I love Loa more than PonyLady!

Good job! I have a few victims I mean ponies I want to de-tinsel as well.

You can also try wire/jewelry clippers designed for close cutting.
 >_<^.^
