No Hair is Beyond Saving(pic heavy)
« on: September 30, 2012, 03:21:52 PM »
I won't lie, this is me bragging just a tiny bit, but in the grander scheme of things, I was hoping it might make people second guess just yanking a ponies original hair out and replacing it.

My friends know how I pride myself on salvaging beyond frizzy pony hair. They know I will take on the challenge of fixing even the worst frizz jobs. I recently acquired a pony that....really made me question the worth of trying to salvage this hair. It was mostly uncut, had original curl, but the frizz....the FRIZZ!

I knew I had my work cut out for me, but...dang, I won't lie, I was extremely discouraged about what I was facing when I dove in. I broke a comb just trying to get the tangles out of it >_<

For those of you who are not familiar with defrizzing methods, I'll tell you what I did.

Step 1- Wet hair, deep conditioned. Wrapped and left over night

Step 2- Detangled with a wide tooth comb, and then, a fine tooth comb.

Step 3- Hours and hours with a curling iron on high heat. This is the first pony that took more than two sessions for me. She took about 6 different sessions with the curling iron to tame the frizz.

Step 4- Wrap still war hair in curlers and leave for hours under a heat lamp

This is a picture of the ponies tail after the first few defrizzing treatments in comparison to the mane which had only received conditioning.

I seriously wanted to yank her hair out and just put new hair in a few times. =/ Honestly, I felt like I would be a hypocrite if I had. I always tell people to try everything the save original hair before resorting to rehairing (I respect there are those who disagree and rehair their own ponies, I want it to be clear this is personal preference and I will never think less of a person for disagreeing <3 ) I stuck with it session after session and finally, when the curls had reset, this is what happened!

I want to thank the mylittleponyarena and how it's educated it's members on restoring techniques. Years ago when I joined, I was hesitant to delve into the world of heat treating hair, but I'm thankful for the skills it's taught me and countless others. It's saved this poor Goldilocks from loosing her original hair and left me with a sense of pride and bond with the pony I spent hours to salvage.

Everyone, give it a try. Pony hair is very sturdy, and a pony with it's original hair...well, it's something special!

Also, to you rehairers out there, again, this is no offense <3 Many ponies do truly need rehairing to be given a second chance :) I love the work you guys do!

Thank you for reading!!!

That's a huge compliment, thank you!! The Veeeeery ends of her hair still hold some of their original curl, but are dry. She also had her hair cut on her first curl. In the end, I'm so happy with how she turned out, and so thankful for the arenas numerous tutorials on how to save mlp hair <3

Pretty! I'm a bit hesitant to use heat myself. I mean, It is plastic, how do you keep it from melting?

I don't have the patience to even brush all my old ponies at least once, ha, maybe that's why I like G4s so much, they'[re new so don't have frizz out of the package. Well, except my Blossomforth, Castle Cadence, and talking ponies, but otherwise, clean soft and silky out of box.
I have a thing for box-hair on G4s.
When the Equestria Girls dolls show up in stores and you end up with unneeded doubles, PM me! I'll buy them!/i]

Pretty! I'm a bit hesitant to use heat myself. I mean, It is plastic, how do you keep it from melting?

Not using one of those super expensive irons helps, because you need an iron that you can control the heat. Mine has high and low settings and I tend to flick back and forth between them. The hair melts I find if it's too hot or too dry. So you have to keep the hair wet and conditioned. I comb the hair alot as it's warm and often follow the iron behind the comb and follow a pass up with combing. The trick is to work quickly and not leave it on the heat too long, and only do a couple plugs of hair at a time.

If your pony hair terrible frizz, trust me, you can't make it any worse XD Don't be afraid to learn! I was, but when I tried it, I was like "omg what have I been missing!!!"

I hope that helps, let me know if you need any links to tutorials!

A. MAZE. ZING!

and inspiring too.  my past few frizz heads I've passed on to another member here after I gave up.

Im interested to see that you can use a curling iron to fix with.  we use a hair-flattening iron usually.  maybe next time I'll try curls!!!

again! you are awesome! thanks for posting this.

Aw, Goldilocks. Goldilocks was the one pony I barely touched because I didn't want to ruin her beautiful curls. You did a lovely job
