Title: Amazing Deal at Target and a shot in the dark for others...
Post by: ponygrl07 on December 13, 2014, 05:04:49 PM
I don't really know where to post this but I figured I would post it here for others who may want to try it.
My husband stumbled across a "Easter Pony Figure" on Target.com for 2.99. Its a store pick up item only.

The Link is here
http://www.target.com/p/my-little-pony-easter-figure/-/A-14898507#prodSlot=medium_1_1&term=my+little+pony+easter

The picture in fact shows the new Pinkie Pie Sweet Style Pony.
When he got to the store they had pulled a single bagged brushable pony. When he mentioned that it didn't look like the pony in the picture they went back to the Toys section and pulled the Pinkie Pie Sweet Style Pony. Seeing that is matched the picture online they matched the product and sold it to us for $2.99.

So If anyone is in need of one this may be an option to get your pony at a great deal.

Husband says I still have to wait for Christmas to get mine open.

I know a a few people noticed this earlier, a week or so ago I think? But we were sure they wouldn't honor that... Kicking myself now for not ordering when I first saw it! Still, I'm so non confrontational in person that if I went in to pick it up and they handed me the bagged pony I wouldn't say anything XD

I should try this even though I already have that Pinkie Pie.  Maybe someone will trade me a Fluttershy for it?

Worst case scenario you can just say its not what I thought I was ordering so I don't want them. They won't charge you. (You don't get charged till after you pick up the item anyways)

Best case scenario SO MANY BEAUTIFUL PINKIE PIES! haha

LoL, sometimes I think I just like to see how much I can get away with when huge corporations make mistakes.  I'm definitely giving at least 2 to Toys for Tots (I donated to my local fire company's toy drive this year...but I don't think kids who really were in need got them).

I found out that my Hubby bought two of the Sweet Style Pinkie Pie. (He was hiding one in case it was actually a Easter pony after all ) He paid the 2.99 on each pony. His plan is to give one to the Toys For Tots as well. Great item for donation if anyone can get their hands on it. :) Love that you are planning to donate Little Spiffy!

Well, what can I say. And besides, we missed the Angel Tree at work because we were out of town and then there was no work for like a week. May see if I can get a couple more before the Toys For Tots drive is over.

I wondered why I didn't get an email/text today.

I logged into Target.com and, apparently, the store I chose is out of stock.

Hmmm...thanks for the heads up?

I selected a different store.  Let's see what happens...

For those having issues, here's what I did:

Went to Target
Grabbed it off the shelf
They rung it up like normal and it scanned $20.
I asked if they priced match their website, and when they say yes, show them the ad and the phone.
They did a price override and I was on my way with my pony :D

If they say they can't do it, just go out, come back in and try another register - or wait until people change shifts and try again.  Eventually you should luck out!  :)

Got rejected today :c. Spent forever waiting to get them to check it out and see it was incorrect and they said they wouldn't honor it.  What a struggle! I was so unhappy with them they first offered me 15% discount and that didn't go so well.  I'll have to try that price checking to see if it works.

Remember when I said I ordered 5?  I'm probably not going to make it to that particular store this week.  BUT I visited a different Target tonight.

It worked!  It's only one per customer, pet day.  I had someone with me, so I got two.  Both are happily sitting in the Toys for Tots bin ;)

It wasn't easy - they didn't want to believe me...but they had their own tablet & saw it for themselves

I'm glad this worked for some of you at least. The first pony I got, I picked it up and went to the register and they did a price override. The second one I ordered through Target.com and they tried giving me a small pony that wasn't the right one anyway (by their in-store item numbers) and I showed them the picture on my phone and told them that is what it should be and they matched it.

I do have a feeling that some locations/managers might also give some leeway if you are getting it as an item for a toy drive? If I get another one and they give me issues that is what I am going to tell them. But as everyone above said, try leaving and coming back or trying another day/another store.

I do think that the picking it up and taking it to the register might have a better success rate though.

Happy Hunting!

Isn't it a bit dishonest though? When it is clearly a mistake?  I agree Target is an evil corporate monster, but I'd feel like I was stealing.

I guess it's safe to say that when the mistake is caught, the person who put up the wrong photo will loose her or his job.

I don't feel that its dishonest. I am still paying for the item. (It may not be at full price). At the end of the year/season the ponies that do not sell are sold to second chain stores (Ross etc) and clearanced out at very low prices.

To the person who made the mistake (working in retail) most cases this isnt a firing offence. Mistakes happen. I just like to think I got a deal for an item.

Well, this isn't a toy that hasn't sold that the store is taking a loss on- I think $2.99 is probably way less than they paid Hasbro for the toy (which they list at $34 right?) Based on Costco's sale price  of $19.99, I suspect the base price of the toy (the price that retailers pay) is more like $12-$16.

But for sure you aren't doing anything technically illegal. And again, Target isn't exactly my favorite business. They've done some pretty crappy things so I guess I should not object to anything that hurts it a bit.

I think this one rang up at 16.99 regular price being 19.99. I think the markup on toys is usually fairly high (Im not sure tho). But I suppose that Target may be taking a hit on the item. I don't feel as though its truly hurting them (considering I'm a customer for life and I know that I over pay on many items to avoid going to Walmart HAHA >_<) I think its a personal stance on the issue. I like to think neither of us is wrong. Just different in the way we the think about the subject :)

She's $34.99, and because she is so new, she hasn't been on sale yet.

If you look at the first post on this thread, the link posted shows Pinkie Pie, not Fluttershy, so I'm not quite sure where Fluttershy came into this, lol.

I know they are a corporate giant but I am with you...I would feel forever guilty. Like the time I accidentally stole a 35p magazine I didnt realise had fallen in between 2 school folders I had in my basket - 20 years ago...and it still haunts me.

Pic has been up since the 13th. How many customers has Target cheated (accidentally or not) with this bait and switch?  I don't feel an iota of guilt about  my purchase.  If it is not fixed tomorrow, I shall buy another.

it is acutly suppposed to be the small bagged pony.   and do i feel guilty?  no.  hoenstly  if  i could have    gotten away with it i would ahve got two.  becuae hoesntly it IS  a   bait and switch.   and  for the most part they arent honoring it. and i  do expect them to fix  it eventually.

also.. has anyone  tried to prcie match it via TRU? i know that they  do price matches. and if you  have trouble with it at target try TRU

There have quite a bit of mistakes lately in the online sales.  The stores have been honoring their mistakes.

http://www.cnbc.com/id/102269385?__source=xfinity|mod&par=xfinity#.

There was also a lego set at walmart that was marked $19.99 in an ad instead of $79.99 recently and they pulled them from the shelves.  Those lucky enough to find them in the stores were allowed one per person.

Its not a bait and switch. Its a listing error. And having once worked at an online retailer, the poor individual who listed this product incorrectly is going to be in serious serious trouble.

I am not judging anyone taking advantage of course but equally it should be understood not everyone is going to feel comfortable with the opportunity. Differnt opinions and all that. Its certainly going to be a good christmas option for some. :)

I saw 1 of them at a store, placed my order on my cell with their app, took it to the register and they were giving me the small easter pony ,I showed them their web price and picture and the manager made the adjustment and I got it for that price , I had already ordered one from them and paid full price,so I feel less guilty about it  :P ,plus I buy lots from them ,so yes got me a second one ,and they are not the same , the first one looks ash pink and the other bright pink ,the accessories are also different colors :) so I ended up with  2 versions of her :)
