So, who is looking forward to the release of the MLP CCG? I love collecting any of the card sets, but like the idea of the ccg, because of rares etc. And also possibly playing with family.
I plan to buy booster box and all decks, accessories. It would be great if it stays popular and they continue making more.

I preordered a full box, the starter deck, 2 playmats, and some sleeves. I'm ready. I should get them in about a week.

They may add original artwork later. But since show is based on a tv show etc, I can see them using screenshots.

I played the demo at GenCon and it was okay, going to try to get some of the decks. Well if they are really out in the store on the 13 (since I wasn't sure when they would send out the pre ordered ones...), so I can take them with me on my trip to play it with my Love, when I get to where she lives!
and yeah it would be better with original art work, like the other cards should have been. But then the only card game I played was Neopets and they had lots of different art works on them since it wasn't a show....

Glad I didn't go through with my plan to travel 5 1/2 hours to and then another 5 1/2 back just to attend! Luckily I'm broke and the snow/sleet was a huge deterrent. Oh, and the cost of gas. Sheesh.
Unfortunetly those cards are already $150+ on Ebay, each. (The exclusive ones.. heard NM didn't arrive to some because of a shortage, too.)

Oh I'm so excited for this! I lost interest in and stopped buying the trading cards because I'd buy them, stick them in a binder, and never look at them again. I'm so thrilled for a card game and I just can't wait to get it and start playing it!! I'm definitely going to rope everyone I can into playing it with me. :biggrin:

I bought a set of these yesterday that was suppose to be Twilight and Applejack.... I was hoping that since it showed them both on it that it would have a foil AJ in it..... it did not. I think I will not be buying more of these....

No only the foil shown in front, though the starter deck, has two character foils. I am sure they will offer the other pony foils eventually.
I am getting 2 booster boxes and all decks today, though not sure starter deck is coming out today. I am waiting till store opens to reserve them at 10!!

Silly question.
How playable (or fun) is this to just play with only 2 people? I've always assumed these card games were for groups of people.

Games like these are meant to play 2 people, same with Magic the Gathering which my husband plays. There are times he plays teams with 2vs2, but thats not the norm.

Walmart has booster packs for $3.48 ea but no starter boxes. I did get 3 regular foils though yay:) My twilight sparkle deck just from the pre release party just showed up too:) Thank you for the links, I'm totally new to these types of games. Can someone please explain what all the rarity codes mean? Do you buy the ultra rare and foils ect just to collect or do they usual hold better features for game play too? Sorry for all the dumb questions!

I bought a "booster" (?) pack at Walmart but there weren't any "starter" (?) decks. As you can see I don't know squat about CCGs. I would love to play a pony card game but I don't know who would play eith me or if I would have the patience to learn to play. I was getting confused just looking at the cards I bought.

My store TRU just got them in! This Fri/Sat only there is a buy one get one 30% off on all trading card games! so the deck is 12.99 and it takes 3.90 off of that. The booster pack is 4.99 and takes a 1.50 off of that. I saved about a dollar more with my employee discount ^-^

My fiance's local game place got them in yesterday so we picked up 6 packs (They were 3 for $10) and then both starter decks. I was in my local TRU and should have checked to see if they had the CCG. I had no idea they were 30% off 'til I bought the Mind Seize Commander Deck which made finding it for my fiance that much better. XD

I just got home from the pre-release event in Dallas, which was pushed back to this week because of bad weather- it was so awesome :D
I ended up playing 6 times and won all of them~ I also managed to get a Nightmare Moon promo! I ended up building a Twilight/Rarity deck half way through using only the cards from the starter sets and my husband made a Dash/Applejack deck. Over all everything seemed really balanced- (with the exception of the few cards with errors on them) and really fun to play. I will say the learning curb is a little high to start, a few people who came to play dropped out after there first game.

you do need two started boxes to play the game- each box has one whole deck. the C, U, stuff is a rarity indicator-
C-common
U- uncommon
UR- ultra Rare
F- fixed (cards only available in the starter box)
P- promotional
R- Rare

I managed to find some not too far from me, and I built an AJ/RD deck. My booster box should be here soon, I'm really excited!
I don't remember if anyone mentioned this, but the non-foils of the starter decks will be released later (IIRC, Enterplay said in NEW starter decks... so we will be seeing foil AJ, Rarity, ect.)

We bought the single RD / Rarity set and enough boosters to make a second deck! It worked out nicely. But... The game is a little too complicated IMO. It's harder than MTG. Too hard for kids unless you simplify. Faceoff, double face off, third faceoff!! D:
We might take out the Action Tokens and just roll a die for how many you get each turn.

I know what you mean. In the game you score 1 action token when you've already confronted a problem and your opnnonent hasn't (on every single one of your turns that happens). It adds up quickly, so sometimes for longer games we play without that rule.

Should we start a special CCG thread where we talk about playing and the rules? or maybe this thread is ok?
Anyway I need help on faceoffs and when are you supposed to turn over (and pick a new) Problem Card? Even if you beat the Problem it seems like you're supposed to leave it long enough for a faceoff, but I'm not sure after that. I have other questions, but I don't know if this is the right place to ask.

My take on the MLP CCG.
Pros
- Keeps in spirit of the show with no violence
- Neat little flavor text and easter eggs
- Doesn't require as much planning and strategizing as say YGO.
Cons
- Rules are long, complicated, and confusing
- Gameplay is long, complicated and confusing
- Difficult if not impossible to learn without someone playing with you and showing you
I got the Rainbow Dash/Rarity starter deck and three packs and went for a trial run with a friend. And this game was just utterly baffling and overcomplicated. The rules were printed on the play mat and a seperate card and I still didn't get it!
I'm a veteran of Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon TCGs, both of which have their own share of confusing rules. But I've (unofficially) volunteered with the Pokemon booth at SDCC twice to teach kids how to play the Pokemon TCG and in five minutes they're on their own without my help at all and usually by game two or three I have seven year olds wiping the floor with me. Half an hour into the game I was confused and still needed every step explained.
I've heard it compared with Magic the Gathering (if it were slightly more complicated) and I definitely see some overlap in MtG players and MLPCCG players. This is definitely not a "pick up and play" TCG like Pokemon and really requires some homework and someone else sitting there teaching you how to play.
Overall, if Enterplay simplifies the game I feel like it'll garner a little more attention from the younger crowd in the Pokemon/YGO demographic. I'm kinda disappointed and will probably end up selling my deck and cards. So if anyone wants a complete Rainbow Dash/Rarity deck plus three booster packs worth of cards let me know.

I vote for staying here :) I think this seems like the thread most people are visiting for the game so if people want to turn this into a general discussion thread on all things MLP CCG then that sounds like a great plan :) Any other threads on the subject we would just merge in here in order that people can have one go-to thread.

I love collecting cards, I have many, many Pokemon cards, but the thought of con exclusive cards, etc, really puts me off, as they usually go for a lot of money.

We got booster packs and theme decks at Walmart and a starter set at our local comic book store.

I justed order the two starter decks off of Amazon today. I demoed the game at GenCon, and filled out the survey, which mentioned a special surprise they'd email you in Sept. I was kind of expecting a coupon or something for a discount on the game (hence why I waited). But I never received anything. Did any one else get in on this?
I'll probably try and pick up booster packs later on, after I get a better feel for the decks and the game play.

I have two starter packs, and about 8 booster packs, now I just have to learn to play! My boyfriend has played MTG and a Star Wars card game, where I've never played anything, so I'm hoping I pick it up quickly.

Why did they change some of the cards? Any particular reason in general or just normal and varied editing reasons?

We sat down last night with the game and the rules and after an hour of staring at the rules and watching tutorials on youtube I still have no idea how to play. I finally just packed it back up out of frustration. I'm probably missing something huge, but it made zero sense to me even how to do the first round beyond one person drawing a card, and one person not drawing a card.

I was hoping that it would be a challenge to play (not too simple and "little kid" like), but this is a bit ridiculous. The instructions are the worse part. The way that they're written is very hard to follow IMO.

I hope someone is playing/teaching this at Pony Fair so I have half a chance of learning, because left on my own it's a lost cause!

They announced that the next line of boosters would come out late March/early April and they listen really close to the confusion (even watching/commenting on the Facebook group.. and Enterplay has an official rulings post for some common questions).
The game took me about a week to work out the kinks, but if you follow the card phases listed on the playmat, it isn't too difficult.

They announced that the next line of boosters would come out late March/early April and they listen really close to the confusion (even watching/commenting on the Facebook group.. and Enterplay has an official rulings post for some common questions).
The game took me about a week to work out the kinks, but if you follow the card phases listed on the playmat, it isn't too difficult.

We're starting to get the hang of the game now. Granted we've tweaked a few of the rules ever so slightly; but now that we understand the steps a little better it's proving to be really fun. I even got my brother to play a couple of rounds with me today! :biggrin:

Yeah, I was told when I demoed this at GenCon it's almost as hard as Magic the Gathering, but a little easier. I was able to work through the rules without too many hiccups, just because I had demoed it once before and understood the basics. I'm still not 100%, but hopefully whenever I get a chance to play with some other friends it will clear up everything.

My husband and I played a round last night and I actually won! lol
It defnitely takes a few matches to really get the ins and outs of the game, but you get into the swing of it pretty quickly.

The new decks have the same cards as Twilight/Applejack and Rarity/Rainbow, but with the foils reversed.

Yup its just the decks reversed...honestly I had every single one of the other cards kinda disappointed...I pretty much paid $31 for 4 cards...Lots of duplicates...

God, $4 more than the regular versions? It's barely worth it for 1 card... Ugh. Almost $16 for 1 card... at least I get another Holly Dash with Rarity's deck, and I need the holo AJ for my deck, too. :/

If you're buying to collect, I reccomend just buying the decks during one of their BOGO50%off sales. :) But if you're only playing competitively, just get the nonholo from Wally World or something XD

I find this interesting. Enterplay could not even communicate with people who paid good money in good faith for their products but they can set up this kind of interaction with some fans :( I guess the theory that they are focusing on this product to the discredit of others was correct at the time.

As of last night, HT's BOGO50% was still on! I didn't get any pony stuff though, I was too busy cleaning out their Doctor Who minifigures.

Oh I love these! I have the DJ Pon-3 sleeves. They also have a set of Fluttershy sleeves.

I do have some hot cash to use so hopefully the store will still have them, granted it's not near by. It would be nice for them to put the game online so I could just order it. I have 2 boxes full of extra cards from the booster box I bought if anyone needs any, link is in my sig;) I love the sleeve protectors, my stores didn't have the fluttershy ones though.
Has anyone found the pinkie/fluttershy decks at a major retailers yet?

I got my grubby little mitts on the Rainbow Dash starter deck, since TRU didn't have the 2-player deck in stock. I might buy another deck and drag my mother into playing, she usually picks up on complicated rules quickly.

Me and my husband love it- we play at least a few times a week and have been going to a card shop with tournaments every Sunday. I have been taking 1st or 2nd place every weekend :cheer: I now have a load of those tournament exclusive Twilight and Eeyup cards.
Who else is really excited for the new decks with Celestia and Luna as leads?

If you have a card shop near by you might check there~ Some of them hold tournaments and if you show up a bit early there are normally people hanging out who will be happy to teach you how to play. The rule book makes the game look more complicated then it is~ Tutorials on youtube can also be really helpful for learning to play.

I love it !! Congrats on all your wins ! I live a little too far away from my game store to go to their weekly pony nights but I'm planning on attending GenCon this summer and entering a tournament.
And I can't wait for the new cards ! :D

Started a Blue/white deck that changed no much time after in a blue-yellow one. 4 matches-4 victorys.^^
For the outsiders could seem complicated, but the reality is that is a fast and easy-to-learn game to play :) (and im not precisely an expert in card games)
Only collect them is a bit sad, the cards not was created for this...:(
