What is going on with the new heads? They are fatter, and they have lines running from the ears to the forehead. They're clearly meant to look the same (not a new pose). So what is the change?
I know you have all noticed this too. Between my Sunset Shimmer and my Chrysalis pack, all the normal-sized ponies have these new, cheap-looking heads. Cadence got a new molded head too!
Does anyone have any ideas why they made this change? The new heads look more like fakie heads than Hasbro heads. And the plastic they are made out of looks cheaper too. It's making the newer ponies hard-to-love. . .

Err, pretty sure the only difference in the plastic is that it matches the body plastic now so less mismatch issues. I don't prefer it, but it's not terrible.
It seems a bit insulting to see official G4 things referred to as 'fakie-like' and real fakies being praised and sought after...

From customizing experience, the new heads are easier to pull off and put back on. They barely look different to me. If I didn't spend so much time looking at them, I don't think I'd even have noticed a difference.

I did for a while think it may be to tighten up on the colour difference but some of the recent releases are disproving that theory.
I would imagine there is nothing more behind it than it being a cheaper manufacture option or a more efficient manufacture process. Or even a move to a different factory/supplier.

i really like the new head shape but not the nasty lines, but some are worse then the others. i gota say my new lyra is so much nicer looking then my old lyra. i just got in the new lyrica and she had minimal lines on her head but her body was terribly lined :( i will have to try and buff it back or something but she might be a factory era being like that.
however all mine so far have a lovely matching head body thing going on :lol: yay
btw i thought that new cadance was changed too, good to know for sure now.

Not the heads, but has anyone noticed that some G4s have a broader stance? Their front and back legs are set farther apart. I really notice this with glittery Pinkie Pie.

a little of topic with the brushables but with my FS glittery rainbowdash she seems thinner and a little taller then my other dash

WHAT?! I was thinking exactly the opposite, as in, "What am I going to do with this ugly new Lyra?!" The head/body mismatches didn't ever stand out much to me. But the fatness of the new heads drives me crazy!

I'm guessing Mrs. Cake has the new head you're talking about, since I noticed some seams on the side of her face and ears my older G4s don't have, and her nose and cheeks are a bit wider than the others. Seams aside, the new head doesn't bother me much. She doesn't look all that different at a glance and the hat totally makes up for it anyway. :)

It feels very slightly coarser than the others, but that's probably because she hasn't been spa'd and styled yet. Minty's hair was a bit coarse too before I conditioned it but now it's soft as silk. I did notice some strands of hair coming from Mrs. Cake's neck hole when I examined her though. Some things never change. >_<

Thank goodness. I thought that I was the only one who noticed this. I collect miniature plastic figures for a table top war game and they often have the same seem problem. We tend to use a metal file and were able to smooth it our really well. Not sure if it will work on ponies. I would suggest trying in an inconspicuous spot.

I haven't deboxed any of my ponies lately (and they have gone into storage).
Can someone post distinct images of the differences?
I am led to believe it must have something to do with the manufacturing process. Since they only have 2 head molds basically for normal sized ponies (discluding the princesses and boys) their molds got so used they probably needed to be replaced and that was a prime time to address any issue (minor or large) in production (whether quality, color, cost, etc). This is only my guess though. :P I'm curious to see the difference.

Oh, and here's a photo. I'll try to take a better one of head lines and such in the morning. Notice how hideous "fat-head" Lyra is compared to normal Lyra.

I've done this with two Pinkie Pies (the suitcase one vs. the masquerade one) in real life and I still don't get it!

The new head mold is rounder in the cheeks. I actually think it's cuter but don't like that the mold seam line is visible on many of the newer ones.

I had to really look to figure out which one was which!
I noticed the difference the first time it was used without anyone pointing it out. You don't have to be super observant to notice when they change something you really like for the worse (worse is my opinion). I think the old heads were much cuter, I don't like these fat faced ones. The angle of the muzzle on the older ones had a much sweeter look to them, while the new ones heads are tilted higher in a perkier look. I don't think they're hideous, but I certainly hope they don't start making all the releases with this head mold. I might have gotten over it if it fixed the head/body mismatch problem, which I originally thought was the point of it, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Instead, it's just introduced more problems such as the seam issue.
I didn't even realize until you posted that picture how huge it makes the head look in comparison to the body size, too. Yikes. It might seem subtle, but it sure makes a big difference. Like I said, I don't hate them, I just really preferred the older mold. It'll definitely make me think twice before I buy any more. It almost reminds me of the creepy muzzled stuffed ponies. :(

I'll agree with the muzzle, and the seam lines are annoying. But people keep calling them fat, and I just don't see it unless I actively look for it. I still do not understand. :s

After I'm done fighting you, I will thank you for the comparison photos! I can't see much difference in the size of the head myself, but the shininess in the picture unnerves me. The vinyl they use in the body is so bleck, I'm really worried this will muck things up in the customizing realm as well!! D:

I agree entirely, its a BARELY noticable difference, and I;m a person who checks every single G4 pony for the initals placed between it's plug holes just to see what head mold it has, and if it doesn't bother me..then it shouldn't be a big deal.

To me I don't really care if they are a little different. They are still cute looking. And the little lines on them, I just accept them. These are meant for little kids and they would not care about this. But its awesome to hear that the heads are more easy to get off :)

I just opened the Sunset Shimmer that my wonderful boyfriend bought me today. Not only does she have dirt on her face and neck, I can see the mold lines and that REALLY bugs me. Oh well.
I, for one, LOVE the new faces!

I'm not fond of the rounder heads really.. They look kind of awkward to me plus make the bodies look much smaller (at least in some views) x.x But that's just how it looks to me

Ooo... I agree. I also think she looks cuter that way. But not a big enough difference to replace the one I have.

I noticed the different number of lashes first...on some of them, like the little fillies, I think the new faces are cute, the chubby faces are definately more noticble in direct comparison, but isn't anything I'd really find annoying one way or another. Give me chubby faces with new eyes, ear position, new body molds! Cripes!

Personally, I like the old heads better. I wouldn't mind a chubbier head if they didn't have so many flaws (like the mold lines appearing in almost every single one) but also look as if they simply ballooned the heads. The raised heads make them look as if they're standing at attention. Good luck on getting any of your ponies to appear as if they're looking directly at each other anymore as they'll be staring at each other's foreheads instead. They also made the eyes wider apart so it seems unnatural, especially considering the character designs in the show.
Also, if anyone has seen the new Fluttershy, the poor thing looks like she's about to exclaim, "My GOD IT'S FULL OF STARS!!!"
The unicorns suffered the most, in my opinion. Poor Lyra looks like she's been stuffing her snout into the potato chips for a week and she's bloated from all the salt. :(

Ohh, I prefer the old mold too, but I think it depends on the eyes? I think Sunset Shimmer looks lovely but Lyra did not fare as well.

I can see the difference pretty obviously in the photos... butttt I think I truly have no opinion in real life. I just don't want any ponies with huge seams on it, I mean, that's a given for any toy unless it's supposed to be a feature of it... I just want the quality of the new toys to be decent. That's my biggest "woe" with the new ponies :huh:

I wish they switched from that ugly shiny vinyl to the matte finish vinyl they used on the old heads, maybe the shiny stuff is cheaper?

WoW! I think I prefer the old head too... the new rounder face makes the pony look a bit top heavy.

I personally don't like the fat headed ponies :(
I like there skinny heads, only a few ponies can pull off the fat head (Mrs. Cake, G4 Minty, and Sunset Shimmer)
Others... not so much (Fan Fave Lyra, Masquerade Rainbow Dash, and :muffin: pony)
As for the ears, I don't have a problem with them, it just makes em look like cats. :P
