Title: Interest in a Utah Pony meetup
Post by: gabumon on February 06, 2012, 09:16:04 AM
my wife and kids and i would sure love to meet and mingle with some pony folk!

would anypony be interested in a MLP collector meetup in the beehive state?

one problem is that the state is so spread out.  I'm in cache co, but would be open to traveling to slc.

18 years and older, sorry!!!

chime in!  (if I can figure out how to add a poll I will)

It's been a while - I agree! Depends on the time/date etc (I usually work Saturdays). I'm down in the valley :)

I think I may be able to do April 14th too. And SLC would work fine. I'm in Utah Co.

I am so glad you guys want to do a meet. I was thinking of planning one here soon. I would prefer somewhere here in salt lake on a weekend.
Any thoughts on where to meet? Restraunt or were you guys thinking something else?
I would be happy to help plan or make reservations. I planned one of the last meets.
Nice to see a few new collectors around here.
Just let me know how I can help!

I've been to Salt Lake, but I don't really know a lot of the places down there. :silly: Except for, like, Temple Square. So I'm probably not much help.

I restaurant would be fun, as long as it's kid friendly and had room to bring ponies and stuff.

Does April 14th sound okay to you too?  That seems to be working for a few of us.  It's a weekend.  Also, maybe the weather will be nice at that point and we can meet at a park and have lite picnic?
Title: Re: Interest in a Utah Pony meetup
Post by: sweetstuff on February 07, 2012, 01:17:42 PM
Well, we did one meetup at TGIFridays and then I think the last one we had someone offered up their backyard and we did potluck. A park might be a good idea. I work Saturdays till 2pm usually - so I don't know what time would work for everyone else.
Title: Re: Interest in a Utah Pony meetup
Post by: CrystalSnowflake on February 07, 2012, 03:22:15 PM
Park would be ok if the weather is nice. If you guys wanted to do a potluck that would work. I could reserve a park pavilion if you guys wanted me to. Then we could have power and tables. I could then make sure you all get maps so you dont get lost.

If we wanted to do a restraunt I can make sure we have enough space reserved. If you guys had certian foods you want or budget I am sure I can find us something good.

I know salt lake pretty well so I would be happy to help with booking a location for us.

I was the one that did the meet at TGIFridays. It was a ton of fun.

As far as the date that should be fine for me.
Title: Re: Interest in a Utah Pony meetup
Post by: gabumon on February 08, 2012, 11:44:38 AM
Okay so I propose:

April 14th, 2PM
at a SLC park, weather permitting, otherwise TGI-Fridays as a backup.

CrystalSnowflake, what parks would be nice for bringing out pony stuff?  I went to a meetup at Liberty Park last year that was nice.
Title: Re: Interest in a Utah Pony meetup
Post by: Firebyrd on February 08, 2012, 01:14:31 PM
I've got to chime in that if you want to do a park, April 14th is not a good day.  We should all know better than to trust spring weather here at this point!  If you'll recall, last year at that time, it was still snowing and below freezing much of the time.  Even in a typical year, April doesn't tend to be warm enough for a multi-hour activity outside like that.  The date is fine for me, but I really think it needs to be inside since we can't foresee the weather forecast two months in the future.
Title: Re: Interest in a Utah Pony meetup
Post by: gabumon on February 08, 2012, 01:18:06 PM
okay!  we can talk about inside places.

any other suggestions besides TGIF?  that sounds okay to me, just curious.

kids friendly would be great.

Post by: sweetstuff on February 08, 2012, 01:26:35 PM
Well we could maybe look at Planet Play down in Draper. I don't know what size group we're looking at, but they have a pizza buffet and then you can always buy a game card/credit for the attractions/video games. It's a pretty decent size  place and off  1-15 so easy for everyone to get to.
We've been there a few times and they have party rooms. No idea what it might cost to reserve/use it though.

Yeah, a bunch of us have kids these days and my husband will have to drive me (which means the kids come too), so a family friendly place is a must.  I have no preferences beyond that since it's all a long drive from Ogden.  The difference between 45 minutes of driving and 50 isn't enough to matter.  Maybe something with one of those rooms you can reserve for parties?  Nicer for both us and the other patrons that way if we're not in the big fat middle of everything.  Crystal, know of anything with a banquet room like that?

Hey folks!

I will keep an eye on this thread! I would probably be interested in coming but since the move to the new server or whatever they did, I can no longer use my home computer to access this site. Freezes the &*^! out of it and my work one? Not much better, besides the fact I should be working. The school computers don't seem to like this site anymore either so I don't know what they did to it but I am apparantly no longer a part of this community. Contact me on the TP if you need to talk to me.

I am willing to pay the upfront cost of a reservation.
I don't plan on going totally crazy on cost. I was planning on doing the research and seeing about cost then let you guys decide.
I will get you guys more info soon. I just need a  head count to get accurate pricing.

Firebyrd told me about this on the TP. I don't get to the Arena much. I'd love to come! I seriously have a mountain of ponies that need to be cleared out of my backroom and was thinking about a spring pony open house to get them out of here.

April 14th sounds ok to me. I live in Farmington, and it would be just me and my hubby.

I am interested in buying a few baitys G2 in particular i think, particularly one called "Dream?" seen so many i cannot remember if i have the right name!

I would be interested if its in the Salt Lake City area.  I have no car and use the bus for transportation.  When you guys said family friendly I started to think of pizza places and family fun centers (the few that are left).  Pizza greasy fingers and ponies dont mix very well but it sounds like a few parents with kids will be there.  So there should be plenty of baby wipes to go around.  Where ever we go we need room (at least 1extra table).  Someone sugested we have demonstrations on pony stuff.  People might also want to wheele & deal, or trade.  That may need its own space.  With how warm a winter it has been we should probably have someplace indoor to meet, incase our winter is actually late.Count me as one adult plus kid.

I'm bringing a herd of G3s and some G4s to sell or trade.  also bringing some of my G1s and customs to show off.

my bring some art to show/share.  we have printed off some pony iron ons maybe to share.

we'd also like to see what other folks have.

light refreshments might be fun.  we might dream up some pony -related treats to share.

:3 zat sound okay?  is that what we're supposed to do? o_~

I'm in depending on how late in the day we are talking. I actually like the park idea (it'd be easier for trades and what not I think), but agree that it'd have to be later than April 14th. I'm in West Jordan, so the 'where' should work for me wherever its decided. It'd likely be just me, possibly +1, I'll have to chat with my BF, I think the whole pony thing is still a little overwhelming for him. :D
Title: Re: Interest in a Utah Pony meetup

I've got a lot of ponies to sell, and I'll have to work up my want list too. And other usual silly stuff to do at the meet. :)
Title: Re: Interest in a Utah Pony meetup
Post by: sweetstuff on February 20, 2012, 07:53:42 AM
I've only been to two meets.  The one that Crystal set up at TGI Fridays - I remember we ate, took pics with her Frilly Frocks, there was a few raffles (I got a Fashion Filly from someone!), and some trades/sales

The last one I went to was at someone's backyard over in West Valley. We did potluck, trades/sales, shoot the fakie game, some things were raffled off, I think there was a custom contest, oh and a pony poetry contest too. :D
-------

I don't know if anyone still wants G3 ponies? I haven't bought ponies in quite sometime, so I don't have any G4s. I *may* have some extra common G1s.
------

As for dates, like I said, I work Saturdays. I usually work 10-2, but I might be able to change a shift to 9-1pm. It would be fun to meet at park, but we might have to wait for early summer for that - since we all know how finicky Utah weather is!

I have a ridiculous number of G1s to sell.  I've also discovered I have all sorts of limited G3s floating around.  I have no idea how I ended up with so many, I think they're reproducing behind my back.  ComicCon, Fair ponies, that sort of thing.

I have an update for you all.

Plant Play seems like a super option and I think it would prove to be the most fun for all ages.

I have a meeting with the party planner there on Friday to cover all the pricing and room availability. If you go onto their site and look at group rates that will give you an idea what the price will be per person and what each package includes. I will be covering the roome charge along with the non refundable deposit since I am doing the location planning.

The basic package is 12.99 and includes all you can eat meal, an activity, and a game card. The planner was saying that we don't all have to pick the same package. So if you only want to do the base package and others want the higher package that is totally fine. She was saying that she may be able to get us better rates then what is listed on the site but what is listed is a good place to start.

Personaly I think this would be tons of fun and not that bad for price.

Any feedback you guys have before Friday would be great. I am planning on making the final decision on Friday since the date is getting closer and she did say they book pretty quickly.

Feel free to pm me for my phone number if you have any questions.

Well, like I said when I suggested it - I really like Planet Play. It's clean, they have lots of games (that work, vs CEC!) and the food is usually pretty good.  My boys love it when we splurge and go. :) Plus is right by 1-15  so  it should be  easy for everyone to get to.

Crystal - it would be great if we can get a better deal - they have various deals  up on their website. Plus  - they shouldn't charge for the kids under 4.

Now for updates!

Here is the attendee list so far:

gabumon - 2 adults 3 children
CrystalSnowflake - 1 adult (+1 maybe)
Skylar - 1 adult
Firebyrd - 2 adults 2 children
Levengale - 1 adult
Seachanger- 2 adults 1 child (?)
Xayide2- 2 adults
Sweetstuff - 2 adults 3 children
IIya - 1 adult (+1 maybe)
Leam - 2 adults (tentative)
MsGatamon - 1 adults 1 child
Lilgryphon - 1 adult (+1 maybe)

so total so far is

16 adults (+2 tentative, +3 maybe)
10 children

Here are the prices that the party planner was able to offer our group

$13.99
Unlimited Buffet
 $10.00 game card
 3 attractions

$14.99
Unlimited Buffet
$10.00 game card
Unlimited attractions for 2 hours

Children under 3 years old are free!

The uses of the party room for 90min is $25 or $75 depending on the room I pick.

Here is what I was thinking for the party plan.

Saturday April 14th

12:00 - 1:00 Lunch in the common eating area
1:00 - 2:30 Party room for swaps and pony games
  2:30 - 4:30 Attractions and arcade
  4:30 - 5:30 Dinner

Obviously some may not want to eat 2 meals there but it would mean that you could eat either before or after we do the party room and the attractions. This would also give us more time to actually do the swaps and some pony games without having interruptions or worry about food covered hands. I would also try to get some tables in the common area reserved for our group for the meal times listed.

Here is a link to their website as well
http://planetplayutah.com/ (http://planetplayutah.com/)

If you guys are ok with the times then I can go ahead and book this ASAP. She says the fill up really fast on Saturdays

They sound good to me, and that's a good price for the party room. For 90 mins I think I'll just leave the ponies in the clear totes to save time setting them up. I'd have to leave them in the car during lunch and race out and bring it all in though. My set up won't be pretty, but there will be a lot of ponies. :)

Title: Re: Interest in a Utah Pony meetup

the times and everything sound good but the price per person is a bit high for me and mine.  what's the price for just showing up and not eating not doing attractions?  or doing attractions as desired? $7 per person is a little better for me.

I hope I don't sound like a wet blanket! :S

I can ask but I would think the nature of the venue would say that they wouldn't let you just come and visit in the room and go. I will ask anyway.
All things considered I think it's a great price. I went there on Friday to meet the planner and get a real tour. I stayed and ate then played games. It was a lot of fun and the food was a lot better then I was expecting. My husband is really picky about food and he really liked it as well.
Honestly if you are going to make the trip to Salt Lake you may as well make a day of it. It is an all you can eat buffet so you could in reality come for lunch and stay for dinner. I think times like this I would say splurge on the event because I think you will have a blast. Besides how often will you get another chance for a fun and memorable pony meet?

In my opinion I think this could be the most fun meet we will have done so far.

I'm fine paying an entrance fee, just wondered how much without the food.

They don't charge an entrance fee, but you do have to buy a buffet - which you can buy without getting the game cards/attractions. We went there with my ILs for my oldest son's birthday two years ago, and they of course didn't want to do attractions or play games  - so we just paid for  their food. And you can literally graze all day there - the drinks and everything are unlimited.

Unless they give us a break their website shows $8.99 for adults and $7.99/or $6.99  for the kid buffets

I would just go with the $25 room Crystal - I don't think we need too big of a room. I wonder if we can reserve the tables over the "gym" room - it's a little more private than the theater room or the 50's dinner rooms.

Any other concerns or objections before I get this booked?
I will try to get this booked before the weekend.
Once it is booked I will probably make a new post with the times and directions.

My family is good for for 2 adults @ $8.99, 2 Kids @ $7.99 and 1 Kid @ $6.99.   Do I pay at the door, or are you collecting payments?  :)  are there any other costs you need to be reimbursed for?

Well, I have to work till 2pm - so I hope I'll be able to hurry over because I do want to do trades/sales. It may end up just being me coming since I won't have time to get home and get the kids and make it back over.

How much time would you need? I just came up with what I thought were good times. If you need an extra hour then I could move it.
We could switch the game time with the room time. Would that work better?

Everything sounds good to me! It'll be 2 adults and 1 child and we'll all do the $13.99 package.

Awww, makes me wish I was back in Provo so I could join the meet!  I hope you all have a fun time.  :)

Well, if you ever happen down this way - it would be fun to meet up. :)

Will do!  My brother lives in Lehi, so I do go to Utah from time to time.  We *might* go out there this summer because my husband has a sister who lives in Pocatello, and since we have lots of friends in Utah anyway, we may spend a few days in Idaho then drive down for a few days in Utah.

I don't want to ask for a change if those times work better for everyone else. My parents help me out with my kids on Saturday because my husband needs time to study his school stuff. I'm working at the Sandy Petsmart that day  - so it usually takes me about 25 minutes to leave work and pick up my kids, then it would be another 30 minutes to get back over to Draper.

Anyway.... I might be able to see if my husband can get the kids and meet me there. I'm not sure - it just depends on how that week goes.

Look at all these pony collectors from Utah! I might go to this one. Depends on time for me. If I go I can't wait to meet you guys. Even though I've never mingled with most on this site.

I feel so late in the game...I've been offline for about a week. A later room time would work better for me too, since I have work that day, but I don't want to inconvenience everybody else.

Neither of us work on Saturday, so whichever time you get will work. Hopefully before some of the kids have to go to bed. :)

As for time. I too work Saturday. And I won't be off till 3. So I may or may not make it. I dont want to inconvenience everyone either. But it may not be worth it to go for just a couple hours. Specially since I live in Brigham City. We will see.

  1:00 - 3:00 Attractions and arcade
3:00 - 4:30 Party room for swaps and pony games
  4:30 - 5:30 Dinner

I hope a lot of you will want to come play as well as the party room portion.

That works a lot better for me. I'll have to take less time off work this way (my shift isn't actually over until 530). It will be easier for me to do the 3 o'clock, sorry to miss out on the games. :(

I'm bugging my hubby about it - so I hope to bring my kiddos too. My oldest son has been helping me sort through all my ponies. :)

It will be close to 3pm if not a few mins after by the time I get home, changed, get the kids and head over.

Ok, as long as it's booked, let us know the time schedule again. Sounds like it shifted a little. Hubby and I will be there. :)

Oh yeah, let us know how much we owe you for the booking too.

Sounds good to me!  I'm not sure if my kids are old enough to really appreciate the sort of games they have there yet, so having the main portion first is definitely preferable for me.

Oh that will work out better - yea! Now I can clean up properly *lol*

Which room did you get Crystal? Are we splitting the cost of the room and paying you back?  Just let me know.

I'm excited to meet up again. *happy dance*

I just got 1 regular party room since I didn't want to spend a fortune on the event.
It cost 25$ for the room but I didn't intend to have anyone else pay me back for it.

I'm getting excited for this! Seems like such a long time from now!

I'm sure we can each contribute a little to help you pay for the room.  Again thank you for doing all of this.
