I had some ponies from Italy arrive in a pizza box. Also, a pony that was advertised as coming from a 'pet-free home' arrived in a cat food box....
My best one is probably the MOC ponies (?!) which were posted to me in a box which was also full of plush toys. These were not in the auction and the only type of packaging material included, but they were not fastened down and everything was just loose in the box. Fortunately the MOC pony I wanted arrived in the same state the auction advertised. I asked the seller if the plushes got in there by accident but apparently they weren't. I donated them to charity, so hopefully some kid is getting fun out of them now - they were Winnie the Pooh plushes, piglet and so on...
lol, amazing things you all named! Funniest I had was an empty yoghurt box with a custom pony inside. And my showstable with box... the box itself was used and taped with brown tape all over. Nothing inside but the loose stable pieces. Oh and a MOC cut in shape to make it fit in the box (this one...).

I've had a lot of strange packaging experiences when buying from a local online second hand shop. A lot of ponies arrived just thrown into a plastic bag and they were so tight inside it, their ears and unicorns' horns had poked holes into the bag, it looked as if they all were trying to get out.
I once had a UK green waterfall playset shipped to me from overseas. It was wrapped in a black trashbag and lots of tape. No box. Not even bubble wrap or paper. Just a black trash bag. Consequently, the bottle of bubbles broke and got the whole thing soapy and sticky. I've gotten things shipped in cereal boxes and other food boxes before. Someone just within the last year had something shipped to them in a USED pizza box.
I think I've seen my fair share of cereal boxes and lots of walmart bags as packing materials. Not pony, but I did have a white plastic item wrapped in newspaper (very unhappy).I've also had so many that were packing taped around bubble wrap so much that I was worried I would cut my ponies hair off
