I love them. Just bought my first the other day and it may be Lost Ocean as well, ha ha.
I've always enjoyed coloring and really liked the idea of the mandala/zen tangle books that were coming out. They can be sort of expensive though which has held me back from getting them. But got a decent deal on mine. Haven't started coloring in it yet though.
Have you colored any of yours?

I have the Language of Flowers that I haven't colored in yet but Lost Ocean was the first one I saw that really grabbed me and made me want to color in the book. :)

I photocopy the pictures and then color in the copies. They last forever, and it offsets the price! :)

I have the Secret Garden, but I can't say that I enjoy it so much. It's just leaves and petals, a bit boring.

I love coloring books but I've never had any interest in an adult one. I have a g3 MLP one, the "Cutie Mark Crusaders Doodle Book", a Pixie Hollow one and an Inside Out one sitting here right now. Next on my wishlist is either Frozen or one with tons of Disney Princesses. I'm also intrigued by the Harry Potter coloring book that's being released soon.

I prefer ordinary coloring books. I just.... Can't bring myself to pay $20 for a coloring book with random images that tend to not interest me much, detailed or not.

I love mine!

I got a couple at Hobby Lobby.  I want to say they were just $5 or maybe it was $7.  (But not $20!)  They had lots of different books to choose from.  Not just the patterns.

Need to pick it back up, though right now I am spending my free time on making ornaments for an exchange we are doing at work.  (That and my pokemon game, lol!)

Really? Cuz all the ones I've seen have been $20. I think the cheapest was $15 on clearance and I'm just like "It's a COLORING book!" I guess I should check them at Hobby Lobby. $5 I just might do especially if there are more than random patterns.

Bed Bath and Beyond in my area had a large selection for $6 and there were several different kinds there. They are made by Creative Haven

The one above is just called "Balance" I got it for preeety cheap on amazon, I wanna say around $5

I also got a few more from amazon , "magnificent mosaics" and "adult coloring book - stress relieving animals" (which im not as fond of to be honest) all of them where each around $5

Iv also got a book called "mystery mosaics" which just looks like a grid with a bunch of numbers with coordinating colors, xD so you kinda dont know what the picture is going to be when you start. (unless you cheat and look at the index at the back haha)

I got myself one today instead. It's water themed with hundres of lines and I got so excited. There were another one with celtic patterns but it was more expensive.. Funny thing is I used to do these "eternity drawings" as I called them when I was younger with lines and patterns that I coloured. This is like the same thing without me having to draw it myself :).

I have some of these, I love them but they bring out some kind of OCD in me. I get so frustrated when I color in a wrong bit in a wrong color!  ALL those triangles were supposed to be green, but I miss like 1 triangle and accidentally color it blue and for me the whole book is ruined  :stressed:

I get so lost in them though!

I hate this too! Thats why iv started using colored pencils more... even though you cant totally erase them, i can at least make them light enough to color over. xD

I've seen a few online, but been a bit hesitant to buy one. Whats the paper like? Is it thin like kids coloring books, or is it thick enough to use markers like copics on it without disintegrating?
Title: Re: Any adult coloring book fans?
Post by: True on November 13, 2015, 03:49:25 PM
The adult coloring books are usually a heavier paper, not like cardstock heavy, but not thin either. Theyre also usually only one sided, so if your pens do bleed through, you dont have to worry about ruining a picture on the backside. I usually keep a piece of blank paper in each of my books that I use behind whatever picture im coloring in, just in case it bleeds a bit beyond the back side.

These sure have blossomed in popularity lately!

I bought one that focuses on cats about 6 months ago. I haven't colored in it yet.

Here is my problem. I am an artist. Instead of coloring in someone else's art, I feel like I should be doing my own stuff to color. But dang it sound soooooooo fun to color! And I saw some coloring books at Wal-Mart for adults and they look so super fun! Uuuuugh I am so stubborn.

Someone.....please.....talk me in to coloring. Maybe it will cure my artists' block.

You should color, it's a good stress reliever and it can help with art blocks. I've printed my own work just top color it in different mediums to shake things up LOL. It can be fun to experiment!

What does everyone use to color in these. I figured colored pencils would be best to start with for me instead of using markers or gel pens. I didn't want the color to bleed on to the other pages. I started coloring with Crayola Twistable colored pencils but would love to hear recommendations from everyone. :)

I guess I will stick to colored pencils for now. I might try different things later but I would hate to use markers and then find out that they bledthrough to the next picture.

Princess Lala can you post a picture of the Disney adult coloring books? I was just at Barnes and Noble this weekend and didn't see any.

Beldarna. I have the same book. :) It was the first adult coloring book that really grabbed me. In the US it's called Lost Ocean but I think Secret of the Seas is a great name too. :)

I've never heard of adult coloring books.  I have at least four G4 coloring books that people from work bought for me randomly that I need to work on.  I bought the pony wedding one for Cadence and Shining Armor a while back and I'm still working on it.  I have to be in the mood to color I think, but I use colored pencils because crayons are greasy.

It's also worth noting that I got two Fluttershys (one TY plush from my sister and a little G4 from my husband, who remembered that I like yellow ponies with pink hair), two teddy bears, kid craft kits, and a Frozen calendar.  Most little kid Christmas ever!  And I totally dig it lol.

I already had Lost Ocean. I recently bought some books from the dollar store. They had about 5 different themed ones. Couldn't pass them up for $1. Then I found some $5 ones at Walmart and my daughter bought 1 and I got 2 I think. Different themes. Then I got Secret Garden and Enchanted Forest together with a pack of color pencils on Amazon for an overall price of like $20. Can't wait to get into them. I'll have a very very long flight soon and will bust into a couple during the flight I'm sure

Oh, you guys posted some beautiful pics already :)
I looooove coloring books too! My birthday was on february 10th and my in-laws gave me a selection of three books plus a box of Faber-Castell colored pencils and my husband gave be a box of amazingly thin fineliners for the really small details <3 I can only say : I LOVE IT! Coloring detailed pictures calms me down, soothes me and is so much fun <3
I had one of those books by Johanna Basford before (Secret Garden). Now I have one with owls, the Doctor Who edition and the Game of Thrones edition. I have only completed an owl pic though, so I dont have much to show. (I can show it later, when Im back from work I guess).

How do you use your books? I promised myself only to start a new pic when I have 100% finished the previous one to prevent me from flipping the pages every now and then lol... I was like that as a kid and never got back to a picture I had started because suddenly I didnt like the colors I used before and so on lol. You know what I mean? :)

I'd rather have a 'kids' colouring book. Looks far more interesting.

We picked up one of the Harry Potter ones a couple weeks ago, along with some colouring tools. Finally cracked it open this afternoon. Haven't gotten far but enjoying it so far. It's nice and relaxing, can have a movie on in the background and just veg out.

I bought a horse one that one of my online artist friends did for Breyerfest. I cannot go this year, but I ordered one and it should be here soon. I'll be excited to get at it.

Ooh, that sounds like a fun one!

My mom recently bought herself some coloring books and we've been coloring together when I'm visiting.

I think I may end up changing my mind and give one of these a go. I haven't quite made up my mind which book I want or which medium I want to color in, but if I'm going to do it I'm going to get a book I really like (and have really researched) and a good quality set of colored pencils, gel pens or markers.

I love seeing how everyone's coloring is coming along and how unique and different various peoples' takes on the same drawing can be. I was afraid the details would be too small for me to see, but I got to take a closer look at some books at Costco and that made me feel a bit better about trying one. Maybe I'll grab one there if mom and I decide to go out this weekend.

The trend popped up over here about a year ago, so it's still pretty new. I love the fact that adult coloring books seem to be of such great quality, just book-wise :) The paper and binding is always really nice, and the designs are well thought-out. But the prices!!
Also, the mandala coloring book for adults I have has some motives in it that are just to intricate and tiny to color in. I think I might just stick to mandala coloring books for kids. They're not as pretty on the outside, but they're a lot cheaper and I can actually color everything!

My boyfriend's mom gave me "The Garden of Time" by Daria Song for Easter, and I've been loving it :) Coloring in the tapestries on the walls takes forever, but I like that I can use more realistic colors and explore a nice story while coloring.
