I don't get random merch (cups, plates, cheap toys, etc) unless I'm going to use them. I have the Canterlot blanket and it's on my bed. I don't feel the need to get the flash lights or bubble wands or beach towels or things like that.

I don't like getting repeats. I'm not going to buy the mane 6 wedding guests, since I already have them. And I won't get the Trixie wedding guest, since I have the Collect'rs pack pre-ordered. I'm okay with getting repeats as gifts (so many Pinkie Pies), but I won't buy a pony I already have where the only difference is accessories, they have a different DS or they don't have bangs.

I collect mainly MIB G4's, although I do have some loose G4's (duplicates of what I have already MIB), some MIB G3's and some loose G3's.

Well, I started collecting G3s way back in the day. I said that was it, until my friend gave me a bag of G1s. Then I thought, 'Well, I'll collect them too or they'll look lonely otherwise.' Then the G4s came out and I couldn't resist. Then another friend gave me a bag of childhood ponies including a G2, so I figured, 'I need more, she can't be all on her lonesome!' and... yeah.

In short, I collect 'em all!

I mainly collect g1s.  I will buy g4s if I happen to like the design but I feel no need to own all of them (I still don't own Rainbow Dash or Pinkie.). I also collect g3s but, for the most part, those come strictly from the thrift store.

I really only collect wingers.  I've been dabbling in Breezies and flutters, but my pride and joy are my wingers.

I also dont know what limiting means either. I collect G1s and G3s. I also collect G4s if I see some that interest me. in short whatever holds my interest. Though I mainly collect G1s.

Well, back in the days of G3, I collected only Pinkie Pie. Tho now I'm pretty much open to all ponies from Tales 7 onwards.

What a great question! I love reading how everypony collects the same yet differently.  Neat!

I'm collecting to regain my herd of yesteryear.  I had well over a hundred G1s, but lost a bunch in a move, more to random generosity, and wound up with about half what I started with.  So it's a very targeted collection... and I'm mostly only interested in the ponies themselves, and the babies' accessories, not so much the combs, brushes, stickers, etc.  But I've added a passel of G4s after my DS and I got hooked on FiM, mostly McDonald's giveaways, and have a handful of G3 McDs, and some random G2 and G3 merchandise mostly acquired with an eye to including in swap boxes (when I've been here for six months and all... hehe).  But a priori is the herd members I used to have.

Hehe.  Technically I just collect G1 & G3, but a few ponies of other gens have snuck in too.  I can't leave a G2 behind at an op-shop.

I go through phases. Earlier I decided I had to have all the Flutter ponies (finished). Now I'm on a kick for any scented pony, and I'm continuing on in my love of any butterfly-winged pony. But I don't restrict myself to any type of pony.

ATM I only have G4s and G3s, then two G3.5s that I only have because they came with my lot of G3s. I'm going to collect G1s and some G2s, too, so I'll collect everything except G3.5 (unless I get a lot again and it ends up having 3.5s)

I only collect G4, but I did buy a G3 Minty the other day because I like her so much.

I tend not to go for accessories much, but its getting harder to resist.  Otherwise, I'm totally got to have them all.
