Woah, that's incredible! I've chatted to another who told me the story of her rat who lived for about 7 years! Go ratty! Considering a rats average lifespan is 2-3 years that is really impressive

Yes i hope to get rats in the future....But we only have a vet fund for my kitty, i like to be prepared. And the pet stores around here most of the rats get tumors :c and i just can't deal with the stress of that.

Aww, you're making me miss my babies.    That black and white with the blaze (second pic) is so cute!!!  I loved keeping rats, if they lived longer I would still have them.  My oldest was Zenna (I picked my username for her when she was still alive because she was sitting on my shoulder when I registered) and she lived to be almost 4.  gemini_pony, I can't believe you had one live to be 7!!!!  Most of mine passed around the 2 and a half - 3 year mark.  In fact, I lost most of mine to tumors, whether they rat came from a pet store or a breeder

My brother-in-law had a fat squishy PEW male live to be 5 years once.
My oldest was a bit over 4 years old, supposedly given to Petco along with a few siblings from a good breeder due to being mismarked. Might be true. 
I've had quite a few rats recently live to be 3 and over.

Oh my gosh rat babies are too cute to exist. I've always wanted a rat, but my girlfriend doesn't like them at all

I'm so happy to announce that the litter of 14 have opened their eyes and are starting to wander around after mum and exploring the world around them! They are so incredibly cute and all are healthy and sweet as pie <3 The two light coloured ones I was confused about are ruby eyed chocolates just like mum.
The second litter of five are beginning to open their eyes, they too will be waddling around soon

I am lucky in that my partner is also very fond of rats, and even has a cage with a few pet boys that are his own

Omg so precious! You're making me miss rats, I've had 9 in the past but ever since I got my dog rats have been an absolute impossibility. My dog is a Miniature Fox Terrier, aka. Small Animal Murderer!
I've also always wanted a ferret but they're illegal in QLD, rabbits I understand being illegal but not being allowed ferrets just makes me pout

Lol i had a mini foxy too... he now lives with my mum tho. I was told he'd kill this and kill that, but he's quite honestly terrified! He killed a mouse once, but only because he goes looking for them in the horse and chook food and then got so scared when he flushed one out, that he chomped it! I have 3 cats at mum's,  (thank god, smething has to actually catch mice!) and they boss him around - his mum is a cat killer, apparently. So not all of them are murderous.. mine's just a bit of a girl..

I *shifty eyes* may have had a ferret for a while.... I mean I only had one, it wasn't like it was going to escape into the wild and breed... and I lived in the middle of nowhere. But he got out (he may have been helped by a curious child methinks) when I went to visit my MIL, and her great dane kinda ate him. No more rodents for me!
