As we are going through items, we have quite a few ponies that are variations that look like they may have had a country mark under a hoof and then it looks like plastic has been melted over it... you can still see there was a country (typically it looks like Italy) but isn't.  Have these been determined to have been toy forgeries?  What is the current collective wisdom on these types of ponies?

I tried to get a pic but it is too detailed to really make much sense of even with a decent camera.

There are a number of different countries which didn't have a country stamp. Some countries also stamped some ponies and not others :)

This includes; Mexico, Venezuela, Spain, Greece, Colombia, Peru and Argentina.

In these cases we have to use other identifying factors in order to pin down just which country the pony was manufactured in :) this can be a combination of hair colour and length, body colour, eye shape and toes and the appearance of the symbol.

In some cases the Hong Kong or China stamp is badly removed and appears melted or scraped away. Sometimes the stamp was covered up with a blob. Some Greek ponies have been found with still visible Hong Kong marks, you can still make out the HK stamp on my Greek Minty.

Some interesting Colombian ponies have shown up with Italy hoof stamps. I'm still not too sure just what is going on with those :P

That's right :bigups:

It's the adult Pegasus and unicorn ponies that got the Apha or Beta marks ^.^ the rest have nothing under their feet.

It seems that Colombia & Argentina both got molds from Italy.

Colombian collectors pose ponies & Argentina walking pose ponies can be found with "Italy"foot marks partially visible. It's possible that other molds have this as well, but those are 2 that I'm aware of.

Wow! I learnt something new today :bigups:

I knew about some of the Colombian ponies having Italy stamped under their feet, but I didn't know about the trotting pose Argie ponies have it as well.

You see it sometimes with ponies that do have a stamp as well... some Macau ponies have poorly covered Hong Kong stamps, and on some Spain marked you can tell it was filled in, even if it is done a bit better than some of the others :)

There is a large population with Italian heritage in Peru and other parts of South America, It is possible someone with a family connection between the countries/factories is the reason for the Italian molds? Ill bet there is a fun history there :) Id love to know it if anyone has information.
