Off Topic / What are your best cold remedies?
« on: October 12, 2023, 08:51:02 AM »
It's that time of the year again, at least where I live, where colds are just piling up one after another with runny nose and sneezing . What are your best home remedies to fight them?

I myself make ginger shots. 200 grams of grated ginger simmer in 1 litre of water for 20 minutes. Don't let it get above 60 degrees Celcius. Strain and add half a dl of honey. Let it cool to room temperature and add the juice of two lemons. Strain again and pour into bottles. Keep in the fridge. I take a shot each morning.

I also make a cup of tea of fresh grated ginger and mint that steep for ten minutes before adding a teaspoon of honey each day :coffee:.

These help keep the cold at bay and not get any worse :satisfied:.

I also eat a lot of ice cream .

This has been a hugeee secret as we.. not really eloped, but just did it infront of a judge and three witnesses yesterday without telling anyone. The wind was blowing my hair to a mess, which can be seen in the second pic, lol but since I am a hot mess it didn't matter ;). What matters is that I have a ring on my finger. Me! Me who never should marry! Ha! Had to share!

Around two hours from my city there is this family that breed and educate on mooses. During summer it's open for visitors to come meet the mooses so we went there a couple of days ago. It was so cool! I've only ever seen them in the wild before, either distant or outside the kitchenwindow growing up. Their fur is kind of oily so my hands were all black of residue afterwards and I stank when i came home, but totally worth it. ^.^

Off Topic / What do you eat on christmas?
« on: December 23, 2016, 09:38:56 AM »
After watching a lot of baking and cooking shows with christmas themes I am curious to know what you all eat at christmas :).

Here in Sweden we eat rice porridge with cinnamon and sugar for either breakfast or lunch and breaded ham sandwiches.

Dinner is a buffet that begins with variations of pickled herring, egghalfs with caviar, smoked and /or raw spiced salmon and other types of fish.

Then we begin with the cold food: liver paté, smoked reindeer, smoked elk, cheese, a varieté of sausages and the centerpiece breaded ham.

Last but not least the warm food: meatballs, chipolata, jansons frestelse (jansons temptation) and ribs.

Every dish is served with sauses and gravies and boiled potatoes.

As a desert we eat Ris ala Malta which is left over rice porridge mixed with whipped cream, served cold with fresh fruits.

Of course every family has it's own take on it and it varies from different parts of the country.

Your turn. Tell me :)

EDIT: as my tablet had mixed up the order..

Anyone seen it yet? I think it's my favorite Star Wars film yet. Loved the characters, loved the scenery and the story. I love a movie that makes me laugh as well as tear up. They redid some characters from ep IV with cgi and while it worked I would have prefered real actors with good make up instead but I can live with it as I understand why they did it. I really felt for the main characters, the pilot.. It was just awesome!

Off Topic / I need help! What do I do with my sneakers?!
« on: September 09, 2016, 06:25:41 AM »
I have these sneakers that wont last another season. The sole is wore thin enough so I feel every gravel underneath when I walk. They both have large holes in the back between the sole and heel and stones and whatnot has come in through them which makes walking uncomfortable at times. They're clearly not waterproof anymore and washing them is out of the question as I fear the dirt is what holds the rest of them together. I know this was the last season I would wear them.

Normally when shoes break I throw them away and move on with life. I also have a thing for shoes and have more than what is considered healthy according to my boyfriend who has three pairs total including all seasons of the year.

But these shoes are special! I bought them 9 years ago and it was one of those moment when I went against what everybody else thought and grewed a couple of inches because of it. They are dead gorgeous and I have not seen any like them since. Also, they are so comfy and perfect for my tiny feet. It's a match made in heaven and I have always chosen these against any new ones I've bought afterwards. They're so much me and my absolute favorites and I love them dearly.

So what do I do? Throwing them away feels like throwing away a friend. I have no place to display them and if I keep them in the closet I know I'll be gluing and ductaping them next summer just so I can wear them.. I considered hanging them on a hook in the ceiling in my ponyroom so I get to see them everytime I walk in there, but again, they're dirty and I wont wash them for fear they'll break. I am at such a loss! Help! :lookround:

Here they are when they were newly bought. See how nice they are? Aaargh, why didn't I buy multiple pairs of them! Why don't they do them anymore!!

Off Topic / Terry Pratchett is dead.
« on: March 12, 2015, 12:02:25 PM »
He was one of my favorite authors when I was young, and his humour taught me so much. Even if his later books wasn't as good as the earlier he made a huge inpact on my life and I am devastated that he is gone. He died at age 66 of alzheimers.

R.I.P Terry Pratchett, you will be greatly missed.

« on: February 17, 2015, 11:05:58 AM »
So I'm lying on my stomach with my tablet infront of me when suddenly one of the cats decide the back of my thighs is the perfect "bed" and lays down to sleep on them. Next my female cat decide to be social and cuddle up next to me with her head  on my right arm so I can only type with my left hand. They are so cute and I don't dare to move but they're starting to feel heavy. I wish I could take a picture to show but boyfriend left for work half an hur ago and I don't think I can manage with just one left arm. Lol. But yeah. I'm enjoying the evening trapped on the couch by my cats.

Only fault I can find is a plug missing at her forehead. She has some wear but I'm not sure I should try and clean her as I'm afraid to ruin those curls.

As a bonus, the little baby. I thought she was a fakie until I noticed a tiny Hasbro under her hoof.  I'm not used to G2 babies but she's simply adorable!

I'll skip pics of the fakies but I'll go to the accessories that followed. Soo fun to get pixietails! :D But the butterfly clips? Are they LLL as well? I can't place the mirror or brush either. I know the large pink brush is Barbie.

Pony Brag Arena / Awesome christmasbrag
« on: January 06, 2015, 12:59:11 PM »
I rarely brag but this is just too amazing not to share. A few days ago a friend texted me asking when I was gonna be home as she has a christmas present for me. I was pretty shocked at only that, because we're not that close, but figured she had found something ponyrelated in a thriftstore or fleemarket. So today she comes by and gives me a soft package and in it I find this awesome shirt!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

She had linked it to me previously when a person was selling it in private and asked if it was my "thing" to which I had replied it totally was but it was too expensive for me at the time (beginning of december). So she basically bought me a 60dollarshirt because she wanted to and I had such a hard time not starting to cry. She got a ton of hugs tho. I've already snuggled in it for the entire day.

Here's a better pic of it. I don't recognize it so I don't know where it's from. The tags don't say me anything. She said it was originally from the UK. Now I have to get the entire set of the Sweetberries to match ^.^

Off Topic / My Vacation in Paradise. Pic heavy.
« on: October 19, 2014, 12:33:01 PM »
I have had the most wonderful holliday ever and I felt the need to share. The Azores are nine vulcanic Islands in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean outside of Portugal. Me, my boyfriend and my sister spent a week on the largest Island Sao Miguel. By largest means it takes one hour and a half to drive from the north to south and about tree hours to go from east to west. Our base was the capital, Ponta Delgada. Our hotell was right by the coastline so we woke up to beautiful sunrises over the ocean (almost) every morning. I took well over 600 pics but I know I can't post all of them so these are a handful..

First I have to say their architecture was amazing. The black volcanic rocks with the white plaster gave everything a very fresh look. This is one of the many churches.

Every street in the main part of the cities looked like this. The black is volcanic rock and the white is limestone. Everything is shopped, formed and layed by hands. Every street have different patterns and I was impressed as 90% of the local women wore high heels and walked on those streets..

Their nature, the landscape is dramatic and breathtaking. I didn't have time to get scared going in a huge buss on those thin serpentine like roads. I was busy looking at the nature.

We took a shower in a waterfall with warm water..

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The Twin lakes. It is in reality one lake but one half is green and the other half is blue. It was so beautiful..

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The ocean.. I lovelovelove the ocean, but we don't get these kind of waves at home. It was so beautiful and I could have stayed all day just watching the waves.

Another day and we visited the Volcano Furnas which water is toxic (and yet ducks seemed to love swimming in it). By the side were pools of boiling water. The stink was terrible.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

In the crater a few miles from the lake was a village. It was beautiful as all their villages are but I can't fathom that people were living there freely. Pools of boiling water, and springs of water with minerals, some toxic, some drinkable.. If you see the house to the right, it looks a bit foggy there, it's smoke from a pool of boling water right next ot it.

Our tourguide in the village at a spring with naturally carbonated water. We all took a sip and it was pretty cool.

We went on to a huge botanic garden called Terra Nostra and met some black swans.

The garden was like a jungle..

I felt pretty small by that tree.

You may not know this but I'm telling you now. I know where to find the Fountain of Youth! It's in the very park and of course we had to take a bath. The water was warm but so full of iron, everything white got yellow and wont go away in the wash. Luckily we all had black bathingsuits. We felt very young and refreshed afterwards ^.^

Their Grafitii was pretty awesome. No tags, just beautiful art.

One evening our tourguide took us to a stable who breed Lusitanos. We got to meet their stallions and afterwards we had a nice dinner with the family in a pavillion. After desert they took down the windows on one side which looked out of a paddoc and then we had front row seats at a beautiful dressage show performed by the sons in the family. One of the highlights of the journey.

A new day, a new tour. We got to visit one of the local teafactories and see how they grow and handle their local tea (which is delicious by the way). I spent 17 euros on tea that day, lol. It hardly fit in the suitcase when it was time to go home..

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

They have loads of beautiful reststops along the roads. They are all more like gardens then reststops. By one of those we found this beautiful waterfall.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

At another reststop there were loads of cats running around. Some were curious, but most were luckily enough shy. They were fed and watered and had shelters. But I still wanted to take all of them home with me.

I didn't get so many good pics of the dolphins, but this was amazing. We got out on a small boat in the middle of the ocean to a group of dolphins and two by two got down in the water with cyclops and got a nice look of them in their natural enviroment. It was so beautiful.. I got to see moms with babes in the big blue..

Me with the nectar of life; Kima. It's their own soda with passionfruit flavor. No export. It only exist there and I loved it so much and it's one of the things I miss the most. So delicious, you have no idea.
Anyway, cheers and thanks for looking! :)

Pony Corral / What are the odds?
« on: August 30, 2014, 09:05:46 AM »
I went to a fleamarket today which was focused on childrens stuff and I did some nice finds but this struck me as just odd and I felt like sharing. :)

At one table was a tied plastic bag, you could see it contained ponies but not which ones. I bought it for cheap to surprise myself with what I should find. At another table the seller wanted 5 dollars for a box with ponies. I looked through it and only wanted two of them but she said it would still cost me five dollars so I agreed to buy the entire box.

Home I came and emptied the box and opened the bag and.. well..

these were among the ones in the box:

I am asking for inputs on a thing, non pony.

My boyfriend purchased a high value item from a polish retailer a couple of weeks ago. He paid by paypal. Please note, this was not through ebay. The transaction went smoothly, he got a pdf with a recepit and a tracking number.

Post office never sent anything about it being here. He found out through the tracking that it had arrived at the Post Office. PO here is basically the customer service desk at a mall. We went there today to get it and the lady wouldn't give it to him. The reason being the seller had put my boyfriends online nickname as only name on the package.

Now, I've picked up a ton of things there and I know they are required to ask for ID but they never does. This time on the other hand.. despite us being able to show the confirmation of the purchase, that his email is the same as the name on the package, that we live on the adress stated on it and has the phone number.. she refused as the name on the package and the name on bfs ID didn't match.

My boyfriend tried to call the postal service customer support but were stuck in a line for 20 minutes. The voice never stated where in line he were or how long he was supposed to wait. In the end, he just gave up.

He has emailed the retailer and Paypal, but since it's the beginning of the weekend, I guess he won't hear back until Monday.

My guess is the package will be at the PO until it's time to send it back to the retailer. In a perfect world, the retailer would send it back with the right name on, right? My question is: If the retailer makes a fuss and won't refund or resend the package, is my boyfriend covered by Paypal?

I'm also curious why the seller would put my boyfriends online nickname as his first and last and only name on the package. He thinks it's because it's his login name on Paypal and that might be true. But, he filled out his name and address on the retailers home page when he did his purchase. I also recall buying a couple of corsets from a store in the US two years ago and I used his paypal when I paid as I don't have one. I got that package without problem so I don't get this at all..

Off Topic / Hey Scotts, I'm coming to you! :)
« on: March 18, 2014, 08:59:38 AM »
I got an "experience" of my choice as a birthday present from my family and decided to make it a trip. I've always been fascinated by Scotland and so, my experience is to travel to Edingburgh which will happen mid-june. The trip will be 4-5 days and we're gonna be four to six people going.

Besides visiting the Castle and Old Town, I want suggestions on what I should do and where I should visit. Museums, mainly, but for a living, are there any good B&Bs or cheap but nice hotels? Restaurants? Pubs? Any cool places to visit outside of town?

Reading only help me so much, but I want the real scottish feel. So what are your take? :)
