Seeing my name in threads?

In several different posts of different topics lately I've been seeing my username posted. Is this a glitch? It's freaking me out! LOL!

Just a couple of examples:

It's a bit of code that displays the username of whoever it reading it. You type [*you] without the asterisk for it to work. For instance:

Dear [you],
I've always secretly harbored an earnest sort of love for you, but up until now I've been too afraid to express it. I hope you will read this and finally understand my feelings.

When I first came across this is confused me massively! I was looking at someone's signature, and it said "Hi, Takoto!" I was like, WHAT? I'M A NEWBIE HOW DOES THIS PERSON KNOW ME. xD

Yep it's a code, it kinda bothered me at first lol but now I'm used to seeing it everywhere.

This threw me off too the first time I saw it. I first noticed it in one if the eliminated ANTM contestants' siggies. It said something like: "Hope you're having a nice day tuneful87" - I thought it was some sort of angry dig at me! Hehe. I had to ask around before realizing what a fool I'd been!

Out of every single time I've seen this code used... this has made me lol the hardest! 
Good to know what the code is, I'm tossing up whether or not to use it since it weirded me out at first and some others find it strange too

I was a little confused at first but now I'm on the bandwagon.  I often get messages from confused folks asking 'why are you posting strange comments about me?" "do we know each other?" that sort of thing.
