Wow!! I'm not much of a african ponies fan, but I must admit that seeing them all together is very pretty. And there are many I didn't know even existed.

Fantastic photo!

And yea, where is that rumored Sprinkles? I don't remember where that rumor started up from? I have a mental image of a whole waterfall play set in awesome colors that I'm sure never was made, but its fun to think about :)

There was a website a looooooong time ago. It was a one page website and it had pictures of Seashell and Applejack as well as scans of the backcard. It was created by a lady about her two childhood South African ponies ^.^ she talked a bit about being disappointed that Seashell didn't look like her back card picture. She mentioned on there about other South African ponies, and Sprinkles was included.

I can't remember her name of the top of my head :(

Well if there is a sprinkles I highly doubt she is white with red hair and symbols. Only two african ponies so far share the same color scheme and they are in different poses. Since heart throb is red and white with red symbols I doubt they would have made another pegasus like that. If there is a sprinkles I believe she would be closer to her original color scheme like firefly and star shine. I think there is one more unicorn out there. I don't know who that is but its most likely a unicorn with a stripe in her hair. I think glory is a likely candidate because moondancer was made. To me they seem to be made in sets.. Bubbles and seashell. Bowtie and applejack, cotton candy and blossom windy and moonstone etc. So for me I look for who moondancer was paired with.. As of right now there is no pony to go with her so I think for sure Glory was made.

I look at it differently, I look at sets rather than pairs :P

The earth ponies got a full set of six as did the rainbows :) it could be that the Unicorn and Pegasus set only got six as well, but it's a bit of a mix across years two and three. The release could well have been four of year two and four of year three though. The reason I suggest this is often the UK set were two ponies short, we missed out on quite a few ponies because of that.

I find the year two and year three Pegasus and Unicorn set confusing , as in the US Medley, Firefly, Moondancer and Glory got released both times and there are difference.

Year Two
Sunbeam
Twilight
Moondancer*
Glory
Medley*
Firefly*

Year Three
Heartthrob*
Surprise
Sparkler*
Powder*
Skyflier
Gusty

Rereleased
Firefly
Medley
Glory
Moondancer

I don't doubt there are more out there and a Glory is very plausible to go with Firefly, Moondancer and Medley. However we might be thrown a curve ball and find its Sunbeam :P who knows!

This opens up the possibility of another Pegasus to go with Heartthrob, Sparkler and Powder ^.^

BUT the six that have been found might be all there is :(

Going back to Sprinkles: rumours are difficult. When Heartthrob turned up, I thought it might be a case of mistaken identity, but since anything goes in the world of nirvana I want to rule anything out at this point ;)

Yes there are so many what ifs..I hope more pop up soon so we can have a clearer picture of the variety of ponies SA made.
They definitely at least 18 ponies.. If not much more so they had quite the production!!! I wouldn't doubt ponies of high popularity having been produced.. I would think Glory over sunbeam as Glory was a popular promotional pony. Twilight and gusty were also very popular so I wouldn't doubt they would have been made. But who knows.. All of the ponies might have been produced.. I see more in pairs as I have noticed a certain amount of rainbow ponies, a certain amount of ponies with stripes in their hair, a certain amount of solid color and hair ponies.. If I had to guess they were aiming for variety and an even number of each. The ponies with stripes in their hair we have fewer examples of so their must be more out there. :)

It is green! There are some odd ball (more than normal) Africans out there!

I guess I will have to add her to the nirvana gallery list of missing ponies!

Love pkw xxx

I love the gallery and I would really appreciate it if that Firefly was donated to the gallery ^_^

It's the only place us dreamers can find the ponies all gathered in one place
Looking for Moonstones, Minty's and Nirvana Babies

all very interesting ya I will take another picture of firefly for the gallery yes she is somewhat of an oddball with green and blue hair and green head. I thought she might have been at the end like so many others and they just put stuff together to get rid of inventory.  Guess we will not know until another pops up.

What's up with Firefly's head?!

OMG had exact same reaction. Totally surreal head swapping going on there!? xD.

They are pretty though. I have always thought the SA Moondancer had lovely colours. Way out of my price range but lovely to drool over.

@PKW  - the earliest SA collector I remember was Joss, back in the end of the 1990s early 2000 - could it have been her?

Bubbles thank you  I think she deserves her own thread ^.^

Taffeta her name was Kartina :) she believed the SA ponies to be fakies. Here is her website via the wayback machine

Hrm, I don';t remember her. Though now I think about it I think Joss was the first person to flag up Truly and Cupcake as regular editions - she had Truly in SA and had the card and such which I still have a scan of somewhere...it was the same as the one in Scandinavia. I don't remember her having SA ponies or mentioning them, because they're so distinctive I think I would've remembered. (I remember the Indian ponies, so..?)

I think a lot of Nirvana ponies went through a fakie stage, though. I know that I had to really argue the case for Italian yellow Minty to be accepted as a real pony, and Italian ponies are one of the best known variants.
