Title: Advice needed on sunfading peruvian Glory
Post by: aniko79 on February 23, 2014, 06:25:02 AM
I own a Peruvian Glory in nice shape, her only noticeable flaw is that she is yellowed a bit. ( from age?) How do I protect her hair and her symbols if I try sunfading her? Thank you in advance for your help.

Sun fading her is no different than sun fading any other pony ;) You want to cover her hair and symbols with either tinfoil or of course you can alternatively cover her symbols with a basic acrylic paint. However as she is a nirvana I would initially stick to the tinfoil plan :) And then sun fade away as you would any other pony.

Thank you so much for your advice! I never did that before so I was quite unsure how to do it.

How long does it take until she is white again? And does this work on every pony?

How long it takes is going to depend to the intensity of sunlight as well as how badly yellowed she is and how much sunlight she gets - there is no set time period.

It should work on every pony but some are a little prone to bad reactions in sunlight and will "burn" and "tan" in colour - thats mainly with ponies which have a preponderance or are prone to age/cancer marks.

Have you checked out a sun fading tutorial? There are a couple of excellent ones which should help you out from start to finish.

Yes I have just read a tutorial today. She doesn't have any cancer marks and she is by far not as yellow as the peruvian Glory which is currently on Ebay for sale. It is only a bit. She just would be even more beautiful with a bright white body colour.

For symbols and eyes I sometimes put plastic wrap on them and paint over the symbols with whiteout or paint. No risk to pony and easy to remove. The sun can get to all the little nooks arround the symbols this way too, so you get a more even result.

For a nirvana I would test with just a foot first. I've had several baits "tan" and its not pretty. nirvanas are all diffrent in their plastic composition, so they may be less perdictable when fading.

I sunfaded a Peruvian Baby Medley who had pen marks all over her quite successfully.  I suspect that the plastic may be similar, although as others have said you may want to test for tendency to burn.

She is rocking that look! Make sure you cover all of her hair however, right down to the roots. I know you guys get some fantastic sun where you are and you dont want to fade any of that lovely colour. :)

What kind of paint should I use to Cover her symbols? I have done it with medical Tape to Cover her symbols, but I would like to continue with paint for a more even result. She is already pretty much more white than in the beginning.

I'd just use water based acrylic white paint.  Nothing with pigment in it or it could stain.  :)  When you're done, just wash it off.

I would think USD 300 and up for one in nice shape. Although I wouldn't even consider selling mine for 300 only:-)

Thanks : ) I paid lots for mine too (one was fairly cheap thou cause she has a serve tail cut) but I keep seeing pc's for her between $100-200 so I thought I would ask people that have actually brought her

Good question, again i would like to know this too, maybe ask on the custom forum? I no nothing about paints so can not help at all but whatever paint you buy it would still pay to do a tester on another g1 first

A basic white acrylic will work fine [just make sure it says acrylic and any brand will do] for covering up her symbols. I would however do a small test on her first. When the covering up symbols with paint technique is used normally its on HK/China ponies; here we are of course talking about a different country, different factories and perhaps even different application techniques/types for symbols. Its worth just making sure the paint will easily come off the same way it will with regular release ponies before you cover all the symbols :)

Thank you all for the compliments! I was surprised, too that she turned out so nice! I have made her hair wet and then I have put much conditioner in it. After that I went over her hair with a flat iron with the conditioner still in her hair. I worked it in small units to get a better result. Make sure that her hair is always wet, as long as you work with the flat iron on it. Wash out the conditioner when you have finished straightening. I always use the heath degree for silk when working on pony hair!
