What are you working on? Random discussion
« on: March 24, 2025, 02:21:50 AM »
The previous chit-chat thread was autolocked due to inactivity so here's a new one! :art: Feel free to discuss anything related to customs here. I suppose discussing our various projects in progress was the most typical line of conversation, hence the WYP question in the title.

I confess I haven't even touched my customising supplies in over a year. My last custom was made for a contest in October 2023 and I made a couple of others that year, too, but nothing in 2024. My activity seems to fluctuate from year to year - sometimes I get really excited and make several customs over one year but that always seems to burn me out and lead to a long break... I would like to start again, though! I do have a couple of WYPs, two fakie ponies that I wanted to customise as a fun little side project for myself. They're lying around somewhere, with a few coats of paint on them... Maybe finishing those would help get me back on track? :D

What about you guys, what are you currently working on? Any plans, aspirations? Frustrations? Or just general custom-related chit-chat  ^.^

Same. I haven't done anything creative in a long time. Kind of the opposite, I'm selling off all my needle felting supplies. I like needle felting, but I would rather spend time on custom ponies and miniatures than refine a new artform. I also have some other crafting stuff to get rid of.

I want to focus on ponies, minis and doing digital work. I bought stuff a long time ago to make my own magnets for my fridge. I found Photopea, which is a free program almost identical to Photoshop. I also have Version 2 of Clip Studio Paint for doodling and painting.

I would actually like to make steady income with art. I know it's every artists dream, but I think if I focus I can do it.

For right now I'm doing the decluttering and trying to get my health back on track.

I know I still owe you a pony, Griffin. I had started on it, but then I changed a major component and had to switch baits and I'm basically at the beginning again. It'll be the first thing I finish once I get back to art stuff.

I am currently preparing to work on my MLP collection binder over my schools spring break! Before, it was really unorganized to my liking so I decided to re-do it over spring break. I have an idea for how I want to try and organize it better, all I have to do is make sure it will work for me.

I have been going through all of my craft supplies and things I bought to create with and am getting them sorted.

I found my box of MLP Funko Pops that I bought specifically to make other Collector Pose pops out of (like Bowtie, Applejack, and a lot of CP Nirvanas).  So once I get everything to a point where I feel like I can work on them, I'll be doing those.  The hard part is going to be narrowing down which CP Nirvanas I want to do because I don't think I bought enough Pops to do all of them.  Maybe I'll just randomly pick ponies to make into the Pops anyway.

I also have quite a few of the G4 Funko Blind Box ponies that I wanted to customize, probably as G1 ponies.

And then I have a ton of the Cutie Mark Crews that I bought so I can do other generations as CMCs.  I'd done a few a long time ago that turned out cute so I'd really like to keep going with those and since they were blind box ponies for the most part, I ended up with a bunch of extras to play with.

So, yeah, I just need to get my stuff together and get to work.

I'm kinds off and on working on customs when my arm permits it (osteoarthritis making it difficult to get anything done some days)
But I do have a few customs in various stages of completion,  there's a pastel rainbow mommy and baby peg set on the way, then a little G1 baby merpony. Hoping to get started on a G4 Jinx at some point soon too.

Everyone's plans and projects sound great, can't wait to see them! :hifive:

No worries, with all the things you'be been going through it's understandable! I'm excited to see what you've come up with ^.^

I'm soon to be testing some loose nylon pony hair (Extra Dolly hair) on a hair straightener (that I got for $4.00 at Goodwill last weekend) to see if: 1. the Hair straightener works and 2. the hair doesn't melt. And then I'll, also dye some of the (Extra Loose White Hair from Shimmer Locks) pink to see if I can get the correct color or not for restoring ponies ^.^ . I also have to invest and test on re-flocking ponies as well  ^.^  it will be my first attempt at all of these things so I can improve on my restorations and for a commissioned project that starts in late Aug.

I took a small brake off due to "Pony Burnout" last year after the flop of the Ohio TrotCon.  I'm planning on attending the Pony Fair in Texas next year (2026) so will most likely start working on one of my "Giant" 18" Pony Project ponies (AKA Pony Project Statue) for the fair.  I've been contemplating what to do with one them for years (I've had two since 2012).  I'm probably going to incorporate a little bit of "Merry-Go-Round" and "Henna" to her design.

I'm also working on a couple of commissions, including a G1 Alaskan designed Family, 2 Merponies, and 5 Sea Ponies.

It's been a while here since I've made a Custom Pony. At present I'm making stuff for them: rib-knit sleeping bags with stockinette pillows on the top, crochet blankets with fluffy eyelash yarn trim & stockinette knit pillows to go with them, & as I get a new colour of yarn, I make some Pony jumpers out of it, especially G3 jumpers as my G3s seem to need more.
I keep meaning to get back into it, & have some close-to done Ponies in the wings, but I just need to get back into Customising
My Mascots (so far): Twisty Tail, G2 Trixiebelle, Starcatcher, Twilight Sparkle. All variants & pictures of these are appreciated. Piccies courtesy of Griffin, Blumiere, Littlebabyribbon, & Starscout

The pony that my mom is getting for her birthday in August is still in the planning stages.
I already have the bait and hair (thanks Griffin :)
