Title: what's the most you've paid for a pony?
Post by: faespirit on July 09, 2020, 01:51:18 PM
most I've paid is $50 for silver spoon. On top of that, it was with my dad's money who doesn't really support me in my hobby. 😬

Hmm. Probably the $20 I spent on Steamer.

$400 for M/O Sweet Scoops. Hopefully that'll be the most I ever spend on a US release pony.

$60 for Macau "Blosscotch". I was like 14 or so at the time and used bday money or something. Now that I have monetary commitments I'm a bit more wary about spending much on any one pony... making a lot of nirvanas out of my reach lol.

On a single loose pony? It was Brazilian Paradise, and I forget the exact amount, but she was worth every penny.

I balance it out with the fact I didn't have to spend big bucks on a lot of the other expensive ponies, because I traded for them back in the 1990s, so I'm pretty okay with her being the big ticket item on my shelf. Rapunzel effectively cost me 50p xD.

The most I spent collectively on items were the three second set MIB Princess Ponies I have, which I bought together from the same seller, albeit it was before I went back to uni and I think I paid for one each month xD. I think that they were around $200 each (Pristina, Sunbeam, Moondust). This was in a time when the exchange rate was nicer though.

The most I spent on nonpony items were backcards. I love backcards. I love them enough to buy a MOC pony simply for the backcard. So a big lot of backcards from the UK? Pretty much my grail xD.

But I don't really want to throw out any numbers for that one.

interesting! looks like I haven't spent nearly as much and that honestly makes me feel a whole lot better. probably will spend a lot more tho once I stop depending on my parents for money ^^;

I think it was $75 for Argie Whizzer. I've paid a lot more than that on custom ponies though.

Hobbies can be expensive.

But I prioritize life and savings first, and I try to be frugal. And when the time is right, I'll splurge on myself. :) So yeah, I've paid a pretty penny for a pony.

Hmm, I think only $35.  These pockets aren't deep.  However, I'm starting to get into the pricier Sugarberry pose ponies so I'll probably have to dig a bit deeper if I want all of them!

$185 for last year's Basic Fun! SDCC exclusive because I was dumb and didn't pre-order one. About $180 for Bay Breeze.

£100 is my self-imposed limit for toy purchases (my most expensive toy purchase ever was Monster High Kieran Valentine for £100. Worth every penny, I love him!).
I know that Tornado was my most expensive pony, I think he cost £90 including postage from Sweden. He was worth it too, he's awesome :lovey:
I've managed to collect several Nirvanas/rare ponies without going over my budget, though it helps that I don't mind poor condition ponies (actually I think I like them best, they need loving).
In contrast, my cheapest pony was Newborn Sunset for 50p. So it all evens out :)
I've been looking at the Mountain Boys I don't have but I just can't bring myself to pay that much, I think it would make it hard to enjoy them somehow. So I'll have to hold out in hopes of finding a baity boy that costs a bit less than all the super minty ones on eBay!

£176 for Ice Crystal about ten years ago has been the most I've paid for a single pony so far, and double that amount (£335) for a lot of two ponies.

So far, the most I've paid for 1 pony is 45 euros for Night Glider. She is in a perfect condition, definitely worth it :)

Similar to Shaz, my limit is 100 at the moment for pony purchases

Hmm, if I remember correctly, the most I've ever spent on a pony was £20 for Merry-Go-Round Sparkler. That's my upper limit for spending on toys these days, much as I enjoy collecting, arranging and maintaining them as a calming and uplifting hobby, having that limit in place helps to keep my space well-organised and my savings safe!
That said, at some point I may throw caution to the wind just once and treat myself to Rainbow Magic as I've been wanted her in my herd for years and never found her within that price range.

I spend a good amount on my piggy Lemondrop. A fair price paid in layaway.
I tend to get ponies for much cheaper though. I snagged up all my taf wave 2 ponies for less then 40 euro's each.

I don't plan on spending that much on a single pony anymore, though I still want piggy Minty.
Title: Re: what's the most you've paid for a pony?
Post by: LadyAmalthea on July 10, 2020, 05:41:34 AM
While it seems like I've spent a small fortune on ponies, looking back I can't pick out one single one that cost more than $10, maybe $15-20 if you include shipping (and I do!). Minty was kind of a splurge at close to the $20 range including shipping, and it seemed like she was a really good price for her almost perfect condition.

I'm sure I will spend more in the future; I'm still in the beginning days of collecting, where it has so far been easy to pick up inexpensive lots with mostly common ponies, but they are new and exciting to me, because they were ones I coveted as a child but never got. I've spent less than $1 for many of my ponies! But as I begin filling in the holes of my collection, buying them individually gets harder and more expensive, and of course, I start setting my eyes on rarer ones I didn't feel the need to have before, but now suddenly want. But...I'm on a crappy stay-at-home mom budget, so anything over the $10 range will probably have to wait until my youngest are in school and I can go back to work.

Ponies are more expensive and harder to come by now.

If I was starting now it would be a lot more tricky, so it's awesome you've found some good deals, LadyAmalthea :)

Most of my rarer ponies came either from the carbootsale in the nineties or from trading ponies from the carbootsale in the 90s. I think over the course of my collection it averages out about $10-$15 a pony, including the MIP ones, so overall I feel like odd high spends like Paradise don't matter so much xD.

$410 (on payment plan) for Takara Baby Popo.  I have a handful of ponies in the higher range, but usually save up or buy on payment plan.  I think the highest I would ever consider would MAYBE be $1,000 for Takara Milky.  Not sure that that would happen any time soon but I do have some Nirvana's on my list that will be in the $100-600 range or so.  Granted that I am able to even find them for sale, that is.  However, I still have ponies on my list like Sweet Scoops that is in that higher range, but at the moment I "feel" that that is too much for that particular pony (right now, probably because I know she has sold for less in the past, so my mind just can't get over it, lol).  For that reason, I am glad I am not Jonesing for Rapunzel since she is back up around the $1,000 mark too.

I can't quite remember! I've probably paid around $30-40. I have some harder to find ones that my Dad bought me for Christmas gifts and I recently got a gift from my family of a $200 one (a 2nd wave seapony). All the ones *I've* bought personally I try to get in lots to spread out the cost.

punzie is very pretty but way out of my reach at $1000.  I've heard stories of people finding her in the wild and other grails of course wish the thrift shops near me had something lmao.

Lambaditsa, hands down.
How much I paid I don't know, but she was my entire Pony budget for two months & I paid in installments.
Pretty pricey anyway, & I had the package weighted to insure it.

Averaging $10-$15 per pony is really awesome, with all the MIP ones and highly sought after ones you have! I wish I had started a long time ago...I remember looking on Ebay a while back, around 2014-ish, and pricing some ponies, and they were nowhere near what they cost now. We were anticipating  a cross country move and expecting our first child; it was a transitional time, so I put the idea of buying them on the shelf, at the time thinking it was enough to know they were out there. 5 or 6 years later when I do decide to start collecting again it's gotten so high...or maybe it's the shipping that's gotten out of hand. Oh well...guess I'll just keep looking for deals, and hoping some of my grails fall into my lap someday! :good:

I uh....I just dropped $300 on a custom Princess Luna figure made by Shuxer59. Dunno how long customs take, but I sent the money a little over a month ago, and I haven’t even received word on the status of the order yet.
By far the most most that I have ever paid for anything Pony, in one fell swoop. Really hoping I’m not gonna get scammed and be out $300. (He’s an amazing artist from the looks of it, I just know nothing about the guy and his order wait times and reliability)

$1,200 USD for retail boxed LSPP. There are several ponies I've spent a boodle on, like the Mommy and Baby mail order set. I figure the ponies I paid a lot for balance out with my bargain finds like $35 Mimic and $25 Ice Crystal over the years lol. That's how I've justified it to myself, anyway!

When I first began collecting, Rapunzel was my grail (isn't she everyone's first grail!) but I didn't know what i was doing and I put in a max bid of $450 on a custom Rapunzel in Bowtie's pose bc I thought she was the real deal!

I spent about $700 for the mintiest Brazilian Milkyway I've ever seen.  I got an unexpectedly large amount of Christmas or birthday money one year, and that popped up right then.  Dropping that much on one pony was quite the surreal experience.  I cut out all other pony spending for a good 6 months afterwards.

LSPP? Is that Licensing Show Pinkie Pie?  I am so glad that I don't really care much for Rapunzel (it's likely the pose) due to her cost.  Did you end up wining it for $450?  That would suck, it not being the real thing.  I would rather spend $1,000 on a real Takara Milky (or less).  The only MO pony available in the US that I have on my list in the higher range is Sweet Scoops and she's not high priority at the moment.

I think the most is right around $100 so far.  SS Satin n Lace, Lightning and the Sunbright, Berrytown and Meadowsweet dads were in that range. They were all close to mint.  I haven't spent more than that for a pony yet, but I am sure at some point I will.   I did spend $200 on a MIB Lady Lovely Locks doll.  Mostly because I got in a bidding war with someone and I am sure I paid more than I needed to.

I overpaid a bit at $40 for Rainbow Curl Ringlet, but she was on a bit of a price uptick at the time and I was feeling impatient.  I still think she's very lovely though, and her condition is quite nice (I wasn't looking forward to separating those tail colors on one who wasn't in quite such good shape.)
