MLP Nirvana / Price Check on three Alitas
« on: November 01, 2018, 02:27:29 PM »
Hi guys!  Several years ago I purchased three restored Alitas from michelle53.  If I remember correctly, all three were given replacement wings and rehaired.  I have one each of Whirly, Cool Breeze, and Moon Jumper.  All three have a bit of symbol rub and Moon Jumper has some staining on her feet.  At the moment I am trying to get a ballpark price with the potential to sell them.  I can't find my camera at the moment so no pictures right now, sorry.

Pony Corral / PC -- G2 Golden Glow / Silver Glow / Copper Glow
« on: November 01, 2018, 02:19:33 PM »
I have these three girls I am potentially interested in selling.  Each one includes her comb and wings (functioning), both eye gems intact, and minimal to no wear on their horns.  Trying to figure out what a reasonable price is to ask in that condition.

The Dollhouse / Wanted -- Batchix Mini Machina Delta/Blip/Eta
« on: January 09, 2017, 02:36:35 PM »
Hey there!  I recently fell in love with these dolls, but the artist doesn't seem to be accepting orders for these at the moment.  I would absolutely love to provide a home to one!

I'm most interested in Delta, but Blip or Eta would be cool too!  Color unimportant, not worried about accessories except the cat ears she can come with (and if she doesn't have them, it's not a deal-breaker).  I'm located in the US and would be willing to provide payment with Paypal.  Let me know if you're selling one, and what you're asking price is.

Thank you for your time, and have a great day!

Arts & Crafts Corral / WIP -- Castle Diorama, Part 2!
« on: June 30, 2016, 10:03:55 AM »
Hey guys!  I've made some good progress on my castle diorama, so I thought it would be fun to share what I'm working on with it at the moment.  Last year I had a thread going for my original work on it, which you can find right here if you're curious to see older bits of work.  Basically, at some point I decided the white and pink color scheme wasn't to my taste, so I am doing a repaint of the whole thing.  That involved dismantling and painting every piece, and I figured, hey, while I've got it dismantled, why not make more work for myself and add new flooring, wallpaper, and finish decorating the rooms?   So, here's how that's coming along!

If you compare the photos, you can see a big chunk of the castle is currently still missing, but what's here is complete -- the library and art gallery are looking lovely!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Here's a better shot of the library -- looks like someone's been reading in here recently...

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

And the art gallery -- frames and paintings are handmade, mirror from Michael's, some random sculpted doodads and bits and bobs of other interesting stuff.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The library has handmade wood flooring, most of the rest of the castle will have "marble" flooring -- here's an example of the completed section on the bridge.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

And here's how the castle looks from the other side!  The textured stone effect is made using Rust-oleum Stone spray in Bleached Stone and Pebble.  The roofing and gold doodads have also been repainted.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

You may remember from the old thread that there was a little pond out front, which had come with the castle.  It was looking increasingly plastic-y and out of place with the other updates, so I replaced it with a pond built into the diorama base, along with some critter friends. :)

And that's what I have to share so far!  If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!  I am absolutely happy to help if you're interested about materials or tutorials or whatnot.

Arts & Crafts Corral / G4 Diorama -- Outdoor Concert!
« on: March 23, 2016, 02:10:44 PM »
Hey guys!  I thought I would share a diorama for some of my G4's that I've been working on in bits for a while, but finally finished.  It's an outdoor concert!  I originally got the idea when I noticed a really cool Playmobil concert stage, and started building from there.

Here's a shot of the whole thing.  It takes up a shelf that measures about 12" x 22" or so:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Here's the stage by itself.  The stage is Playmobil 5602, the Pop Stars Stage, and the guitars, microphones, drum set, and speakers were all included with it.  Fluttershy is wearing a custom dress made from two different ribbons:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

At the back, Cheerilee is buying popcorn from Caramel Crunch (the popcorn wagon is Sylvanian Families, set Mi-68):

And Sugar Sweet is selling a veggie dog to Lotus Blossom (the hot dog stand is Playmobil, but I'm having trouble finding the number at the moment and think it may be discontinued):

Kimono and Wisteria are enjoying a bite to eat while watching the concert, and Vinyl Scratch came to cheer Octavia on:

A bunch of G1 girls got together to enjoy a picnic at the concert (picnic set is from the Lil Woodzeez):

And those are the pictures!  If you have any questions about anything, let me know!  :)

Customs / Lots of new G1 -> G4, plus a couple OC's
« on: March 23, 2016, 01:57:10 PM »
Hi guys!  I hope everyone is doing well!  I just finished a diorama for a bunch of G4's of an outdoor concert and sat down to take pictures of it (thread coming to the Arts and Crafts Corral shortly!) when I realized I had a bunch of customs that I hadn't shown off!  Some of these have had previews in other threads, but some of these guys are totally new as well.  Hope you enjoy!

G1 -> G4 articulated Tickle, one of my first articulated custom experiments -- her hair is decorated with paper roses that I painted the edges gold on:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

G1 -> G4 Sugarberry -- those strawberries took a while!  They're all drawn with watercolor pencils, which is the same way I've been doing the eyes lately:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

G1 -> G4 Caramel Crunch, who runs the popcorn stand at the concert:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

And G1 -> G4 Sugar Sweet, who runs the veggie dog stand:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

G1 -> G4 Moondancer, who was actually completed before she showed up in the cartoon, but I was unhappy with her eyes so I wiped them and redrew them:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

This is an OC named Lynette, who in my brain runs the hair salon with G1 Ribbon -- she started out as an experiment to dye the joints of articulated ponies and just grew from there:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

And of course in that case I need G1 -> G4 Ribbon also  :

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Another OC named Wild Rose -- I bought a prepped bait from Barbed Dragon ages and ages ago that had a gorgeous brown and light blue gradient.  She was pretty much finished for about a year, at least, but I finally got some paper flowers recently that I thought would be fantastic for her:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

G1 -> G4 articulated Wind Whistler, who has made an appearance in a couple of other threads:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

And here wearing a custom dress, which I posted a tutorial for in the Arts and Crafts Corral as well.  My plan at the moment is to make a North Star custom with a similar dress, then they can go chill at my big castle diorama together being all fancy:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

And one of my favorites, G1 -> G4 articulated Blueberry Baskets.  She started as one of those "action" Rainbow Dashes, but the mouth was too perfect, so instead she gets to carry around a custom basket of blueberries!

Whew!  That was a lot of pictures!  Thanks for taking a look, and hopefully you enjoyed them!

Arts & Crafts Corral / G4 Fancy Dress Tutorial!
« on: March 14, 2016, 02:18:07 PM »
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Hey guys!  I got a note about a picture I'd posted in another thread, featuring my custom G4 Wind Whistler wearing a fancy dress.  I'd been meaning to offer a pattern and tutorial for a while, so that was good motivation to finally do so!   I really like making clothes and accessories for my G4's, and while a lot of the time I kind of wing it for little bits and bobs, I drafted a pattern for this dress (and variants) to make it easier on myself to make another one.

This is a very picture heavy tutorial, so everything has been subdivided into sections for those on slower connections.

A couple of notes:  This pattern is intended for brushable-sized G4's, and will work with either bent-leg, straight leg, or basic articulated bodies (the "action bodies" are a bit wider and won't fit the pattern).  I am a hobbyist at best when it comes to sewing, and I prefer to use a machine, so some of my stitches are pretty catawampus.  This pattern doesn't require a machine at all, and can be done by hand as well, it'll just take a bit longer to do.   Some familiarity with sewing techniques is helpful, but I try to break down everything as best I can.  Additionally, some fabrics can stain ponies, so be careful with homemade clothing and accessories.

First up, here is the pattern:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The variation I'll be demonstrating will use the top, shorter skirt, and overskirt patterns.  There is also a gown skirt included that can replace the other skirt pieces, or the top can be sewn by itself to make a shirt instead!

The finished item is still removable, but the velcro/fastener is on the underside of the pony instead of the top.

For this dress you will need:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

  • printed copy of above pattern
  • scraps of fabric (for this dress I used white knit material for the base skirt and a plum knit for the top and the overskirt)
  • lace or ribbon for the edges (optional but looks extra fancy)
  • doll/low pile adhesive velcro or closure of your choice (snaps would also work well)
  • thread, scissors, and needle or sewing machine
  • pony to model for you (I tend to keep an extra Cheerilee around just for trying clothes out on )

Starting Out and Adding Lace
Spoiler
Start by cutting out your fabric pieces -- in this case, I am making a dress consisting of a top, shorter skirt, and underskirt, and I have cut out all three along a fold in the fabric, so I have a (hopefully) symmetrical piece like so:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The first thing we're going to do is add all that frilly lace to each piece, which is also the most time-consuming part of this.  If you don't plan to add lace, feel free to finish the edges as you would like.

First, take your piece of fabric and lace and sew them, right sides together, as shown here:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Then fold over the lace, with the seam pointing upward, and sew along the seam:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

When attached, your fabric and lace should look like this on the inside/wrong side:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

And this on the right side/outside:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The overskirt follows the same steps, sewing the lace along the long, rounded part.

The top is trickier -- you will want to sew the lace to the sides and bottom, but not the rounded middle section:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The long straight line along the bottom is our neckline, and the sides are the sleeves.  The part where I haven't attached lace is where the top will be joined to the skirt.  Additionally, you could finish that edge and make a top out of it (I have used this same pattern to make a pirate shirt for another pony).

After a ridiculous amount of time, you should have three pieces like shown in the below picture, and then we can move on to construction!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Construction

Spoiler
There's a couple of things we need to do before we sew it all together.  First, take your overskirt, and fold it in half.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

You'll want to sew a line from the top, forming a triangle by sewing to the edge:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Once you're sure your stitches are even and it's nicely in half, you can clip the inside of the triangle (I like to use pinking shears):

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Your overskirt should look like this, with a pleat in the center:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Next, we're working on the skirt base.  As you can see, the top of the skirt is longer than the part we're sewing it to.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

If you're doing a gown skirt or one layer of skirt, you can always do a pleat as shown above, but since we've got two layers, I like to do a gather instead.

Sew a long stitch along the top of your skirt (if you're sewing by hand, you'll want a basting stitch, and if by machine, a straight stitch set at about a 4 length).

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Knot the threads on one end, then start (gently!) pulling on one of the threads on the other side, until the fabric starts to gather:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Gently move the gathers along the top of the skirt, and continue gathering until you've got about the same size for both pieces.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Find the halfway point in both of your skirts and pin together, with the right side of the shorter skirt touching the WRONG side of the overskirt (so the right side of the overskirt is on top):

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Then do a long stitch to temporarily attach them to each other (see, terrible stitchwork! )

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Stitch the right side of your skirts to the right side of your top, and then we're done with basic construction!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Fasteners, and Dressing Your Pony

Spoiler
I really like to use adhesive low pile/doll Velcro for my fasteners, but you could also use sew-on Velcro or snaps, and they should work also.

If using Velcro, you'll want two smaller pieces and one longer piece:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

On the outside/right side of the dress, at the corners of the top, you want to put two small pieces of Velcro:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The corresponding pieces will go on the inside/wrong side, at the bottom of the top (if you are making a shirt only, you would attach these pieces as well, but skip the longer piece):

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

One long piece will go on the outside/right side edge of the skirt:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The other will go on the inside/wrong side of the other edge of the skirt:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

To dress your pony, take the whole piece and flop it on top, with the skirt towards the tail and the two top parts towards the head, one on either side of the neck:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Holding both pony and dress with one hand, locate both pieces of Velcro on one side:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Shove the long piece with Velcro in between the front legs:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Wrap around, and press the other piece of Velcro against it, from the outside:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Repeat this for the other leg, then attach the long pieces of Velcro to each other underneath.  You may need to do some slight adjustments of the dress so it sits right, but then you've completed your dress and dressed your pony!

Customs / Articulated G4 Ponies Tutorial!
« on: February 02, 2016, 08:27:49 AM »
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Hey guys!  I hope everyone is doing well!  I've been working on these guys for a bit, and wanted to share what I've learned.  Be warned, lots of pics ahead!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I really love the articulated ponies (especially since I'm a sucker for dioramas, and they're so much more expressive with joints).  Here, you can see G1 -> G4 Tickle and Wind Whistler hanging out on a (not quite finished) diorama getting ready for a picnic!

I've dismantled several different articulated ponies and taken lots of pictures, so the tutorial will be broken down into three major sections: Basic articulation (the non-"action" releases of Coco Pommel, Rainbow Dash, and Twilight Sparkle -- I have taken one of each apart, and they are very similar, so I will be showing only one off), Action ponies (the kicking, etc. releases of Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, and Applejack -- this tutorial shows Rainbow Dash, but Fluttershy should be the same.  I have not touched Applejack, but I'm sure she's quite different), and Re-tailing (this shows off the modifications I had to make to give them a new tail, as well as showing off how I put in a new tail, though the method is very similar to how I normally give a custom a new tail anyway).  Each section is under a spoiler tag, as there are quite a few pictures!

A couple last notes and warnings: this is definitely more complicated than normal customizing, so if you are new to customizing I would suggest starting with a couple of basic ponies before moving on to this.  The methods to get these guys apart involve very sharp objects, so please be careful and don't hurt yourself!  Lastly, I don't recommend trying to dye these guys -- the head and main leg pieces (as well as the wings if applicable) are all the traditional vinyl, but the body pieces and the joints are hard plastic.  As such, what would work on one would not work on another.  Someone more familiar with dyeing vinyl/hard plastics may have more to say about that than I do, but this guide doesn't cover that.

Basic Articulation

Spoiler
These guys are a little misleading -- the screw at the bottom makes you think they are simply held together with that, but the body is thoroughly glued together in addition.

  • Carefully remove head from body -- my preference here is to soak the whole pony in boiling water until the vinyl has softened enough that I can safely pull the head off.  This may also help to weaken the glue involved, but be careful not to leave in water for too long, since there are metal parts involved.  The neck plug is attached to the top half of the body:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login
  • Unscrew the screw on the bottom and set aside (you will still want this).
  • Very delicately, use a sharp object like an X-Acto knife and start cutting along the seam lines on the sides of the body.  Under the tail, there is a long, flat seam, and it is easiest to start here.  There is a curved seam at the front that you will need to cut along as well, and depending on how thoroughly glued your pony is, you will also need to cut along the sides.  This is much easier to do with Coco Pommel than with the winged girls.  Gently cut deeper into these seam lines until you can wedge the pieces apart.  Here is an image of the body without appendages to give you an idea of where you want to cut:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login
  • Try to gently separate the pieces.  Chances are good that once you open the body, pieces will go flying everywhere, so be careful!  Here's a shot of what should greet you when you remove the top:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login
  • The tail is a bunch of cut hairs held together by a metal piece and lots of glue.  It is usually glued into the top half of the body, but it may have come loose and be easy to pull out.  If not, you can pull it out with a pair of hemostats (or dig it out in the case of big globs of glue).  This is a picture from Action Dash, but the tail is located in the same place on the basic ponies:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login
  • If you've done accidental damage to the seams trying to pry the pieces apart (which is very easy to do), this is a good point to take some sandpaper to gently sand the edges of the seams.  I like to start with 400 grit, then take some 1000 grit to finish.  If you've got visible spots still where you've sanded, a matte topcoat spray is a huge help to make things look nice.
  • At this point, add a new tail following the re-tailing section (or this can be simply glued into place using your own method, but I'm not a fan of that so I don't cover it here).
  • Re-fit the appendage plugs into the appropriate places -- the legs slot into the bottom half of the body, whereas the wings (if present) slot into the top.  It's easiest to reassemble by having the lower body spread out on a hard surface, then taking the top and gently press it back into place.
  • Hold the whole mess together and rescrew to keep everything where it should be.

Action Ponies

Spoiler
These guys are definitely more complicated than their basic counterparts!  Lots of tiny bits, so make sure you don't have critters around to steal tiny springs and things while you work.

  • Carefully remove head from body -- my preference here is to soak the whole pony in boiling water until the vinyl has softened enough that I can safely pull the head off.  This may also help to weaken the glue involved, but be careful not to leave in water for too long, since there are metal parts involved.  The neck plug is attached to the top half of the body (shot of basic plug, but action plug is the same):

visitors can't see pics , please register or login
  • Gently start working on the side seams -- there is a long seam on each side, a long seam on the back, and a curved seam on the front that will all need to be cut through.  When you've cut deep enough, you should be able to pry the pieces apart, but there are a bunch of tiny pieces, so be careful!  This should be the crazy sight that greets you:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login
  • Let's take a look at those pieces a bit more: there are the legs (of course), a piece I like to call the table, one that kind of looks like an airplane with a spring attached to it, and a little j-shaped doodad:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login
  • The tail is a bunch of cut hairs held together by a metal piece and lots of glue.  It is usually glued into the top half of the body, but it may have come loose and be easy to pull out.  If not, you can pull it out with a pair of hemostats (or dig it out in the case of big globs of glue).  This is a picture from Action Dash:

  • If you've done accidental damage to the seams trying to pry the pieces apart (which is very easy to do), this is a good point to take some sandpaper to gently sand the edges of the seams.  I like to start with 400 grit, then take some 1000 grit to finish.  If you've got visible spots still where you've sanded, a matte topcoat spray is a huge help to make things look nice.
  • At this point, add a new tail following the re-tailing section (or this can be simply glued into place using your own method, but I'm not a fan of that so I don't cover it here).
  • At this point, you can reassemble everything as it was, but I modify the inside a bit by removing a couple of pieces.  This actually helps to disable the "action" aspect somewhat and let her be treated more as a plain articulated pony (though you will still notice some quirks of the "action" when she is assembled).  Set aside the spring and the j-shaped doodad, as they will not be reinserted.  Fit the airplane piece back into the bottom half of the body (there is a slot that it fits in in the back):

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Then fit the table over it (there are peg slots for it as well):

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The back leg posts fit in under the table, and the front legs fit around the front of the airplane:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login
  • Reassembly will require glueing the top and bottom pieces together, so make sure you are 100% happy and that everything looks right before you do it.  There are some little pegs on the outer perimeter of the body that will temporarily hold it together, so I strongly suggest doing a test fit and making sure everything looks right (and the legs haven't been confused) before glueing.  I really like plastic cement for reassembly, because it actually melts the plastic a bit and you can use sandpaper to smooth out the seams quite a bit (or, if you get lucky, almost get rid of them!)

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Re-tailing Articulated Bodies

Spoiler
This actually covers part of my normal re-tailing method, but there are a few quirks specific to these bodies due to the strange shape and internal pieces.

  • If you're following along with one of the above guides, you should have a top body piece with no tail in it.  I like to take my hair, fold it in half, then add a zip tie.  Then, to hold the halves together, I add another zip tie.  For G4's, I like to use 2mm ones (I bought a bag of 1000 from Amazon for $5, so these guys will last forever! )  The "top" of your tail would look like this:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login
  • Cut the tails of the zip ties off, then prep your other supplies.  For this, I use a pair of hemostats, the tail, and my homemade re-tailing tool (it is a brass rod bent in half, then bent into a bit of a curve):

visitors can't see pics , please register or login
  • Insert the re-tailing tool into the hole for the tail:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login
  • Slide the closed end further through the hole, then insert your tail into the gap in the tool:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login
  • Pull the tool back through the tail hole, dragging the tail with it:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Important note:The interior is very small, and the hole as well, so be careful how big you make your tail.  In my experience, the tails end up being a little thin, but there just isn't space for a thick, bushy tail.
  • Pull the tail through, then really cram the plastic zip tie part tightly against the interior, if you are re-tailing a basic articulated pony.  If you are retailing an action pony, you will probably need to pull it in further and fit the zip tied part up next to one of the wings, as space is even tighter here.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login
  • If you're making a basic articulated pony, you will need to cut the back tab down somewhat to make room for the tail:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login
  • Continue along with the appropriate section for reassembly!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login
  • Alternatively, you could glue a new tail into place, but I'm not a fan of doing so, so I don't cover that in this tutorial.

Hey there!  This is something I've been working on an off for a bit, and I thought I would share the progress I've made so far!  For Christmas I received a Playmobil castle (set 5142, the Princess Fantasy Castle).  I had discovered recently that Playmobil playsets are the perfect size to display G4 ponies, and I was enamored with this castle especially.  Over the 2+ hours it took me to build it (no joke!) I started coming up with lots of neat display ideas, as well as a whole story about the princesses that lived there.   As a result, I've been working on creating a palace garden party, as well as custom pose-modified princesses to go along with it.

This is pretty pic heavy, so I've gone ahead and divided it out into smaller sections!

Update 3 - 11 March:

Lots of new stuff has been happening as far as progress goes, but I haven't taken any pictures... until today!

Detail Shots
Spoiler

The paper lanterns are all finished and strung on the LED light string.  It's really starting to look like a party when the lights are turned on!

There's lots of tiny tasty food for the ponies now -- tiny drinks, daisy crostinis, and orange tart (terrible picture, I apologize):
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Also tiny cake slices, fancy cookies half-dipped in chocolate, and chocolate-dipped strawberries with a dab of whipped cream:
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

All of the food was made by me, as well as the drinks (the glasses and pitcher are Playmobil, but they've been filled with a colored resin).  The tiny plates were made as well, and feature teeny tiny rose designs with gold leaf borders.  Some of the ponies even have partially-eaten food on their plates!

There are a couple of new party guests -- Sky Rocket and Prismatic Heart (formerly Silver Prism) are two older customs of mine, and they still need dresses.  Hanging out with Rarity is a beautiful Princess Fizzy custom, thanks to the wonderful Tiella:

And then of course I couldn't resist making a sparkly dress for her!

Princess Fizzy is more than happy to chat, as long as she can eat her cake!

The base also has a border added of "mulch" with border stones, as well as a couple of completed rose bushes:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

A closer shot of some of the roses -- my plan is to fill the mulch border with rose bushes, which is going to take a while

The library is also coming along rather nicely.  I found a dollhouse-sized carpet that is just perfect!

And a shot of the bookshelves so far.  Still on the to-do list is making more books:

Update 2 - 17 Feb:

Unfortunately I have been feeling pretty crummy, so progress has been slow, but there is still progress!

First up, the Treasure Room is (mostly) done! (the walls are looking a little blank so I am considering what I want to do to make it look a little more finished in there):

The dragon guardian is made of oven-bake clay, with hand-sculpted scales and spines.  He has a little bit of Red-Blue Duochrome Pearl Ex with a glossy topcoat so he sparkles a little bit.

The giant treasure pile was made following this Youtube tutorial and modifying heavily due to the size.  The basic structure is made of Apoxie Sculpt for the framework, hot glue, and bits of the same foam sheeting that the base is made of.  The treasure is a few different types of round glitter and a bunch of different nail art gems and doodads for extra gem sparklies.

The treasure chest is handmade using another Youtube tutorial and is filled with a similar mix of doodads.

Rarity: "Hello, darling, do you know another dragon by the name of Spikey-Wikey?"

I also made and stained some little tables for the garden party -- there are two that will be for the food, and one at the moment for the earth/pegasus ponies that can't lift their plates in mid-air by magic.

The tables for food also have some little tablecloths that were drafted and then sewn as well:

And finally, I finished the framework for the garden party paper lanterns.  There are ten of these that will be covered in tissue paper/cellophane and hung from an LED light strand.  They were handmade out of 20 gauge silver-colored jewelry wire and keyrings:

And that's it for the time being!  The next big thing on my agenda is to start working on "garden" portion of the "garden party", but for that I'm going to have to move the whole castle off of the base.  Hopefully you've enjoyed the new update!

Update 1 - 6 Feb:

Lots of exciting stuff that's been in the works for the last couple of days!  The princesses are complete!

Silver Swan
Spoiler

Silver Swan was originally a Pinkie Pie that was pose modified -- the original pony was cut apart and resculpted using foil for the base armature and Apoxie Sculpt to finish it.  The wings were also created using brass rods, foil, and Apoxie Sculpt, then she was painted with acrylics with a dusting of silver Pearl Ex pigment and a glossy topcoat:

She was rehaired with Dollhair Snowflake and Raincloud, and RDUS True Blue nylon:

Her dress was made with lace, sheer light blue fabric, and faux white fur with blue tips.  It also has about a gajillion hand-sewn beads as well:

Golden Rose
Spoiler

Golden Rose was some leftovers parts from another custom -- Twilight's head and Applejack's body.  She is pose modified using her original legs, brass rods and Apoxie Sculpt for her front legs, and her back legs are completely sculpted from scratch, as I found I had to cut the pieces super duper tiny for the pose I wanted.  She is painted with acrylics, a dusting of rose gold Pearl Ex pigment, and a glossy coat to make the Pearl Ex really sparkle:

She was rehaired with Dollyhair Blizzard, Venom, and Sunlight:

Her dress was made with white knit/spandex material and lace, and has about 30 hand-embroidered ribbon roses adorning it:

Other Doodads
Spoiler

The Playmobil beds are about the right size for ponies, but I'm not a big fan of the basic plastic-ness of it, so I drafted patterns for a sheet, comforter, and pillows.  I also repainted the headboard of this bed (for Silver Swan's room) to resemble wood finish:

I also started planning the two tentative rooms a bit more, and decided definitely on a treasure room and a conservatory.   Here's an (incredibly rough) sketch of my plans for the conservatory:

The Castle Itself
Spoiler

The interior/garden view of the castle is posted above.  The base for it is customized out of foam, with the stones hand carved and painted, then some basic grass put into place for the time being.

Front view of the castle, with the path leading up to the gate.  The front pond is actually part of the castle, but it looked weird to have solid green plastic on the turf, so I covered it as well:

Interior Castle Furnishing
Spoiler

So far most of the rooms are unfinished.  Most of the rooms are planned for, but two are completely empty at the moment.  There will be two bedrooms (one for each princess), a dining room, a library, a conservatory (tentative), and a treasure room (tentative).

The only room finished so far is the dining room:

The dining set is Playmobil, set 5145.  Most of the items are very detailed, but I may go back and paint or add more food, as that's a little lacking.  Everything is attached in a removable way using white Handi-Tak, which you can see in spots, but it keeps everything where it's supposed to be, and lets me move it if I want:

The library still has some work left to do, but right now I am working on books for it.  These are all pony-sized books, made from card stock/fake leather for bindings:

Some of them have been decorated a bit more so I can leave them out as though they are being read:

The pages are all blank, but they all have individual pages that can be flipped through:

The Guests, with Custom Dresses
Spoiler

What's a party at a castle without guests wearing dresses?   I custom drafted a skirt/smaller dress and a dress/cape pattern which is the basis for all the dresses except for Pinkie's.  I had some lace and scraps of fabric on hand, and these little tiny dresses don't take very much!  They are all removable and are fastened with doll-sized Velcro.

Diamond Mint, Plumsweet, and Lemony Gem all set with their outfits and cute hairstyles!  As a side note, Plumsweet was in an auction I won recently featuring a haircut, but I think she's cute like that and I didn't have Plumsweet anyway!

Glitter Pinkie Pie and Rarity!  Pinkie's tutu has little Swarovski gem decorations.  Rarity's outfit is by far the most complicated, and features custom beading on the top of the skirt and a custom removable bracelet as well:

Customs!
Spoiler

Two princesses live in the castle, Silver Swan and Golden Rose.  I wanted to do something a little different with the customs, so they are both pose-modified, but with brushable hair and turnable heads still.  I am still painting the eyes for both and rehairing their manes, but here is a shot of the completed bodies -- Golden Rose is laying down, Silver Swan is sitting:

I also made another custom for one of the party guests, named Estella.  I'm pretty sure she's an alien.   She started out as a Glitter Wysteria that was (painstakingly) de-glittered, and then I experimented with ways of changing her color without destroying the translucent effect.  She was dry-brushed with Pearl Ex Pigments in shades of blue, and I'm happy to say she is still nicely see-through!

And of course since she's a party guest, she also received a custom dress:

She was rehaired in two colors of yarn with sparkle bits, and has a few small star beads tied into her hair as well.  She has also been threaded through with LED lights!  The lights start at her tail, then go into the main body, thread through the neck plug, and wind through her mane as well:

What's Left To Do

At this point, quite a lot!   Here's a partial list of what's in store:

  • finish Silver Swan and Golden Rose
  • make dresses for them
  • create dresses for Sky Rocket and Prismatic Heart
  • decorate the garden party, including flowers, LED lights and tiny lanterns
  • finish the library and library books
  • finish the bedrooms, including custom blankets and pillows
  • furnish the treasury
  • furnish the conservatory

Customs / A new Lalaloopsy Mini -> G4 custom ~ Cocoa Mint
« on: January 23, 2015, 11:33:39 AM »
Hey there!  I'm really excited to share a new custom with you today!  I had a lot of fun creating my last Lalaloopsy mini-inspired custom, Marie, and immediately started planning a couple more.  Cocoa Mint originally was nameless #15 (from the second wave, the ice cream pack) of the Lalaloopsy mini ponies.  She was painted in acrylics, with sculpted chocolate bits, heart symbol, and even whipped cream and a cherry for good measure.   Her hair is two colors from the Beach set of Lion Brand Bonbons yarn, which is actually rather smaller than normal yarn.  She's been styled with white ribbons, pearly white sewing pins, and a tiny sculpted cake hat as well!

Pony Brag Arena / A Breezie of a Different Color
« on: January 07, 2015, 12:50:30 PM »
I just received this girl in the mail today, and I was so excited I had to post about her!  I love the new G4 breezies, and have purchased all five (the two from the pack with the pony, plus the three blind bags, though I haven't received the blind bags yet).  About a month ago, I was browsing eBay, so imagine my surprise when I ran across this girl!

I was so happy to win the bid on her, even though at the time I wasn't really sure what I was going to get in the mail!     Thankfully she was a perfect match to her picture!  Here's a shot comparing her with the Breezies from the two packs:

She's a slightly different color purple than Sea Breezie, and her wings are very similar to Sunset Breezie.  I've been calling her "Natalia Breezie."

Not sure whether she's a fakie, a prototype, or what, but I haven't seen one in her colors since, and I adore her!  Here's a cute pic of her in my pony forest:

Customs / Marie - A Lalaloopsy inspired custom!
« on: December 12, 2014, 09:46:14 AM »
Hi there!  It's been a while since I've posted anything new!   This girl has been in progress for a bit, but I finally had a chance to finish her!

I adore the designs of the Lalaloopsy ponies, and especially some of the minis (blind bad size) are super cute!  One in particular I fell in love with, who I named Marie because she reminded me of a Marie Antoinette-esque design (they don't have names, only numbers).  So, I decided to make a G4 custom inspired by little Marie!

Marie originally was a Pinkie Pie base, hand-painted in acrylics and sealed with Triple Thick.  Her neck and leg ruffles are some elastic with trim I had laying around, and they have doll Velcro so they can be taken off and put back on.  The wings are craft foam that were painted and sealed, then had matching buttons added with cross stitch thread.  And rehaired with lots of poofy yarn hair for good measure!

In the background you can also see one of my display dioramas for my G4's, including Zecora collecting spell ingredients.

I hope you enjoy!

Wanted! / Looking to buy Shine Bright Luna with saddle
« on: November 30, 2014, 08:30:04 AM »
Hi there!  I'm interested in purchasing Shine Bright Luna, with her saddle.  She was originally a Target exclusive in a big cardboard set with a bunch of accessories and Pinkie Pie.  I'm not looking to buy the whole set or purchase her MOC.  Saddle is a must though.  If she doesn't work, that's not a big deal.

If you have her for sale, please send me a PM.  I am actively looking to purchase her!  Thanks for your time. :)

I'd also be interested in buying the Muffin pony brushable that came in the Favorites collection, but she seems to be outrageously expensive at the moment for some reason. :(

Wanted! / Looking for some G3's
« on: August 24, 2014, 07:51:15 AM »
Hey there!  I'm looking for a couple of G3's!  These are ones I'd like to add to my collection, and while they don't need to be mint or MIB, I'm looking for uncut hair (dry or tangled is okay, I like spa days) and no permanent marks on the body or face.  Marks under the hooves are fine, and dirty ponies are fine as well.  I'd also prefer no major rubs to eyes or symbols, but minor rubs can be acceptable.  There are a couple that I am looking for with certain accessories as well -- if you are selling these accessories separately, I may also be interested!

I'm located in the US, so I'd prefer US sellers just due to shipping costs.  And Paypal for payment as well.  Feel free to send me a PM with prices/pictures if you have any of these girls for sale!  Thanks! :)

  • Star Dasher
  • Winter Wish with collar and reindeer headband
  • Jolly Lolly with scarf and ear muffs
  • Aurora Mist
  • Sunrise Song
  • Star Catcher II (the one with the molded plastic wings, not the fabric ones)
  • Port-o-Bella - preferably with the hat, but without is okay too (no other accessories needed)
  • Mittens II with hood

Trader & Shipping Support / eBay Buyer Issue
« on: August 15, 2014, 08:01:36 AM »
So eBay has been relatively reasonable (as far as crazy buyers goes, their fees are still ridiculous).  Of course that had to change!

On the 28th of July I sold an auction for two ponies, and when I received payment on the 30th I also received a note from the buyer wanting me to ship to a different address than the one provided by Paypal.  The last time that happened, I'd asked for advice here and was directed to some good info about Paypal's protection policy, so I knew that was a big no-no.  So I refunded her payment, and kindly explained that due to Paypal policy I could only ship to the address provided by Paypal, and that she could change it during Paypal checkout.  What followed was several messages where she tried to guilt-trip me, be passive aggressive, and then finally resent payment and said just to ship it to the address provided by Paypal, because she wasn't good at computers and didn't know how to change it.

So I shipped her package on the 1st of August, and as of the 4th it was sitting at the post office, with tracking status of "Notice Left (No Authorized Recipient Available)".  Today, I received a rather nasty message from her, that it had been too long and that I needed to track them down before she contacted eBay.  I sent her a message explaining that she told me to send it to the first address and what the current status of the package was.

According to USPS, it looks like a package left in the "Notice Left" state gets returned to sender after 15 days.  If that's correct, it should get returned to me sometime next week.  Would it be unreasonable in this case to just give her a full refund and consider the matter finished?  She has been rather rude to me over the whole thing and there's no way I'm going to go out of my way for her to get these ponies.

Also, I didn't realize at the time, but she's a rather notorious reseller as well, one who has sold ponies and hid flaws.
