Introductions / It's been a fair few months
« on: February 27, 2015, 07:39:20 AM »
But I have returned!
Just thought I'd say hi again. I mostly lurk but maybe it's about time I started posting more. I kind of became distracted from pony collecting when I started this year of college. But I saw some of the new G4's in a toy shop the other day and I think I fell back in love with the idea of collecting them.

So, hi again!

Pony Corral / Any Information on this Fakie?
« on: December 09, 2013, 07:31:59 AM »
I managed to acquire what I think is some sort of G1 circus baby fakie. But she's pretty huge! visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Here's a size comparison between her and Floater. She's got glass eyes and eyelashes and her body is about the size of a G1 adult's, but a little bulkier, but her neck is a lot longer.

She feels pretty well made. Anyone else ever come across this colossal baby? Is she based off a baby pony? I don't have any non-fakie baby ponies so I don't have much to compare her to. She's my favourite fakie in my herd right now, mostly because I've never seen one quite like her before.

Pony Corral / Equestria Girls Dolls Prototypes?
« on: May 28, 2013, 05:56:46 AM »
My apologies if this has already been posted, feel free to delete if it has been.

Lauren Faust posted this photo on her Twitter about 14 hours ago. https://twitter.com/Fyre_flye/status/339163075146022912/photo/1

If these are the final designs of the EQ Girls dolls, they're based on their old designs that had pony ears, wings and hair that had a tail part to it. And if these are the final toy designs I'm quite happy with them, to be honest. Apart from Rarity. Her face looks rather odd. Hopefully it's just an awkward photo and she looks better in person. I think winged dolls will sell better, so I'm assuming that's why Hasbro went with the old character designs for the merchandise.

Pony Corral / Tips on cleaning colouring changing G3?
« on: October 15, 2012, 10:05:48 AM »
My Grandmother recently bought a secondhand colour changing Star Catcher styling G3, much to my joy. She's overall in pretty great condition except for a pen mark on her display side cheek. I'm wondering if anyone might be at all familiar with the dos and don'ts of cleaning colour changing ponies to prevent any damage being done to them. I've cleaned and restored plenty of ponies, but I've never faced one with this feature before.
Would anyone happen to know if magic erasers would be too rough on this type of plastic? Would I be best just sticking to a mild soap, even if I can't remove the ink on her face? She has a few other thin, brown lines too, one on the underside of her hoof and one on the top surface of each wing. I'm willing to try things out on the underside of the hoof if anyone has any ideas they think may work. For science!  :nerdy:

Pony Corral / Denture cleaner?
« on: May 23, 2012, 09:25:22 AM »
So, I was browsing the internets when I happened to come across a blog where a woman swears by using bicarbonate of soda/ baking soda to clean ponies. I believe she stated that she mixed it into a paste and layered it on the ponies and let them sit for a while before rinsing them. Has anyone else used any technique similar to this for removing dirt and grime for a pony? Are there any alternatives like using denture cleaner (that contains sodium bicarbonate as its main ingredient)? I have seen many people on the Arena swear by Magic Erasers, which unfortunately I don't believe they sell here.  :(
I'm also willing to try out any ideas you may have on more than 20 fakies I've acquired over the past few weeks.   FOR SCIENCE!
Would bicarbonate of soda have any effect on pen and highlight mark? Would it cause any damage to symbols or painted eyes if you were to simply dunk the pony into a mixture of it?
The main reason I want to know this is because I have a rather lovely G4 Fashion Style Pinkie Pie. She's beautiful apart from some marks on her which were on her even when she was in the packaging. She has a rather bad black mark on one ear that I've been hiding with her hair the past few months.   Fortunantely it's on the opposite side to her cutiemark, so you can't see it when she's on display on my shelf.

Any helps or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

These may or may not be ponies you own.  And feel free to have a real MLP beside them for comparison of height and general quality if you want.
My personal favourite:

That's a legit MLP Rainbow Dash G3 next to a rather lovely fakie. She came in a set of 12 ponies in a large carry case. Four of them are obviously styled off G3's, the rest are smaller with almost more Lanard-esque faces. Their vinyl is a lot softer than real G3's. Their eye paint is very, very close to real G3's, though all the fakie versions have a dark purple and pink eye colour. They come in different colours and have the same symbol. Snowflakes. Their hooves are free of any markings, but they have "MADE IN CHINA" in small print along their stomachs. Their hair is quite good quality and very shiny, though some have crimples in it that refuse to come straight. The hair simply sits in their heads, however. Even a small amount of force while brushing will pull strands out. (My sister happened to really take to one of them, so I glued the hair inside her head myself. They have no glue holding their necks to their bodies, either, the head pulls off easily with a slight tug). The tails have a strip of metal clamped around them which functions similarly to a washer. They make great custom bait! And as they come in a set of 12 for about €15 here in Ireland, it's a good place to start.

My least favourite:

This is a legit Rarity G4 (and a pink bait fakie pony of the type above) next to an abomination. These ponies cost €2 for 2 in Euro General (similar to a dollar store). They're made out of shiny, hard plastic. They seem to be inspired by G3.5 (sorry, I don't own any 3.5s to compare it to). They have manes and tails made from the same plastic as their bodies which is hot glue gunned to their heads.

As you can see, on the left pony, the bodies are hollow with a big ol' screw keeping the two halves together. The bottoms of their feet are lumpy and they wobble a lot, They come in four colours, I also own the other one (which is light pink and has yellow hair, the reverse of the third pony above) but I can't seem to find her right now. You also can't see it too clearly, but the insides of the hair and tail are hollowed out, almost like a shell that hovers above the ponies body like a cape.

Anyone else ever seen any of these themselves?  :drunk:

Pony Corral / Help With G1 Identification?
« on: May 14, 2012, 10:54:19 AM »
My Grandmother very kindly bought me a G1 secondhand MLP, and as it happens, she is now my first G1. I tried looking at Strawberry Reef's pony identification guide but couldn't find her anywhere.  :(  Perhaps she's one of the ponies that still doesn't have a photo uploaded there.

Her hair's pretty nasty and I believe she's developing mold. She's got a few marker marks in inconspicuous places (the underside of one hoof and inside of back leg).
Her paint is in lovely condition, though.

And here's her cutiemark and a view of the little bunny basket (which I've honestly never seen on a G1 before. I'm kinda not too knowledgeable in this area.  >_< )

Her symbol is blue and yellow and seems to be a magic wand or something similar. The basket covers it slightly. She's dated 1990.
Any attempts at helping me would be assuredly thanked.  ;)
Also, apologies if this is not in the correct area.   I usually just browse the site and look at the wonderful customs and restorations.

Introductions / Howdy do?
« on: April 30, 2012, 09:53:09 AM »
Hi there!
I'm Líadan, but you can call me Lee or Grey if you want.  ;)  As you can most probably guess, I'm new here.
I'm 16 years old and from Ireland, just about to start my last year of secondary school (which is similar to highschool, if you use a different school system). I'm the arty kid that everyone had in their class at one point or another, I suppose.
I started collecting My Little Ponies relatively recently. The end of 2011, to be exact, so my collection isn't particularly impressive. I mostly have G4's since they're the easiest to find in Ireland next to G3's. They're still fairly difficult to come across, though. So I have two G2's, two G3's (and a videotape that came free with Rainbow Dash), and eleven G4's. (I have three Pinkie Pies in various forms. She is that awesome, yes.) I also have four rather scary looking fakies of the G.3.5 design.

Anyways, there's three reasons I love MLP:
  • My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. It's one of the most entertaining shows I've ever watched.
  • The pony figures are absolutely lovely, especially with a bit of love and care so their manes and tails are wonderful and sleak.
  • The customs. I've seen so many absolutely stunning customs come out of the MLP community. I'd like to try that too. (Though I have vowed to only ever use secondhand ponies that are maybe not in the best condition or duplicates of already good condition ponies I have.)
So, in summary, "Hi, how are you?"  ^.^
