Title: “Sound of Silence” season 8 episode 23

This is the one that introduces the Kirin. I really enjoyed it and the new character. And the lesson was solid.

I love the song in this one! It's catchy and I love when they tell stories in their songs. The lesson presented in both the song and the episode are pretty valuable. Autumn Blaze is adorable and I love the Kirin's mannerisms, I just wish the character models weren't just ponies with scales.
This will probably be my favorite episode of the season, I can't recall any others.

Post by: Sunset on September 01, 2018, 09:23:01 AM: I actually like that it’s a pony base. I kind of wish the hippogriffs where a little more pony based. I like the shorter stockier legs as apposed to the super long legs.

I do agree that this hasn’t been a stellar season. And it was so refreshing to have a good song. Seems like songs have been thin on the ground for the last couple of seasons.

I doubt this is true. Might just be another cost cutting measure. EqG has been scaled down a lot, might as well not pay for music and lyrics.

This one’s good as a one off. You don’t need to have watched any previous episodes except to know that ponies sometimes get called to the map to go on friendship quests. And the pairing up this time was Fluttershy and Applejack. Not a RD or PP in sight which was refreshing to me.

Post by: Dreamchaser on September 02, 2018, 08:43:17 AM: That is funny. I have never actually watched the show, and I just happened to find that episode it on Youtube. So I said, what the heck, I'll watch it. It was cute. Now I am disappointed to hear that that one is the best one of the season.

I'd really love to have some Kirin brushables. I'm not sure how Hasbro could make this happen, but they need to make it happen regardless :P

I enjoyed the song, and the rainbow doing a full arc across that valley reminded me of the traditional G1 rainbow logo.

Give me a blind bag or a brushable or something, please hasbro! The episode was pretty well done, and the song is just that rainbow frosting on the cake. Not my favourite episode, but one of my top favourites.
Anybody else chuckle when the other Kirin is trying to ask for the cure from autumn blaze, and she gets mad. “Can you excuse me for a sec?” And then this cough of fire from behind a rock. Dunno why, but that was kinda funny.

Post by: Sweet Daes on September 02, 2018, 03:33:47 PM: It seems a bit rushed... I like how they could cram so much into 25mins, but this would have done well as a 2-parter. It was nice to have a one-off for once that didn't seem TOO far-reaching.

Looks like they won't. They haven't made toys of other species since the movie came out.
They haven't made the legendary ponies despite focusing one seaaon and a couple of comics on them. Even their school set doesn't come with the students. On top of that, the Kirins don't come in fancy rainbow colors so it looks like they weren't meant to be toys.

I really hope this trend will change with G5.

I'd love to see custom brushables of them! I'd love to try and make one myself but I don't feel I could pull it off very well. I'd also have to stew a bit on how to properly do their big manes.

Also that episode was very quick to get taken down! It appears to be gone, now.

But, much of the magic of FIM is gone for me. I don't hate it. That would never happen. I just can't get into it anymore. It's weird.

Kirin have long been around as a fan concept, it's amazing to see them as canon now. the episode plot was very good too, about how you can talk to people, get hurt or offended, but you should still communicate with people. Awesome episode!

Lol, now Ihave to work the Kirin into Dram Valley in my writing! ^^

If I had to nitpick, I think the whole subplot with them needing to find the Foal's Breath flowers was a rather superfluous. Maybe they could have dedicated a bit more time to Autumn trying to convince the others that sacrificing their voices and emotions isn't healthy, since it felt a little too easy in the actual story.

The darker part of me also kinda wanted to see Applejack and Fluttershy get dunked into the Stream of Silence and see how they overcome that, but that's just me.

Other than that, I thought it was a nice watch.
Also that creepy conductor pony at the end of the tracks was hilarious. :lol:

And yes, brushables with all of those big fluffy manes would be the best!
(I'm not even a collector ;) )

Or maybe they are just a more equally matched species in general and treat their leader like everyone else.
I also noticed that they don't have sexual dimorphism like the ponies. They all looked like the regular female pony model just with different eye shape designs and color schemes.

She's really pretty too! I like that most of the kirin have more earthy colors than ponies do, it's another little detail that helps set them apart!
The ending was so abrupt though! Like i knew it was coming to an end with the reprise of the song, but then the high five cut to credits really threw me off! I think it should have ended on the shot of Autumn Blaze making the rainbow with the fountain, that felt like a much more natural stopping point.

Post by: Ponyfan on October 16, 2018, 02:01:58 PM: I really enjoyed this episode :) I like Autumn Blaze she has just the right amount of bubbly/excited instead of it being over the top like that one griffin chatacter that wanted to earn a cutie mark. I loved the song.

I was surprised to see the Phantom of the Opera reference. I liked how Fluttershy stood up for herself with Applejack when she was trying to get her to listen that she knew an easier way to the Kirin realm.

I had to laugh at Applejack taking the hard way to the Kirin realm only to have to do it again in reverse.

I like how the Kirin can transform into those fire ponies and that they learned that it’s okay to get angry sometimes.

I’m a little dissapointed that Mistmane wasn’t mentioned since she is a Kirin. It looks like the Kirin were so isolated from other ponies that they thought all ponies could turn in to fire ponies since they were going to force Applejack and Fluttershy in to the river.
