Pony Corral / Re: Why Do YOU Collect My Little Ponies?
« on: June 16, 2018, 05:38:19 AM »
I don't think that pony collecting is immature or unintelligent. I feel sorry for people who feel that way. It's perfectly possible to be an adult and understand the real world and its problems and challenges and still love plastic ponies from your childhood. I'm really glad they're a part of my life, even though to the outside world they'd just be seen as an 'autistic obsession'...

Agreed, 100%.

Although I am also autistic, and I prefer to use the term "passion" or "enthusiasm". Why is it acceptable for an adult to follow everything a particular group of overpaid men do with a ball, but not to still love the toys they grew up with? I for one still have my baby blankies in my bed, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Maybe the world would have fewer problems if it let a bit more whimsy and happiness in.

Aww, sorry to hear that! I'd agree with SaraMari's solution... perhaps someone at the Arena would be willing to take any "extra" ponies off your hands.

PM'd you  :lovey:

I recently bought a mixed generation bait pony lot on Ebay, but mostly bought it for the purpose of rescuing the one G2 in the lot. I don't have any interest in (or much knowledge of) the G3 or G4 ponies, so I'd like to sell the rest - I hope they can find good homes with collectors who will appreciate them!  :hope:

Under the spoiler you'll find pics of the ponies. Please make offers if you're interested in any of them. Feel free to PM if you want more details on any flaws they have... but please be clear about which picture they're in, as I said I don't know G3 or G4 so I can't identify them by name!

The one on the far right in the above photo is missing her wings.

The purple and yellow ones in the above photo are missing their tails. Sorry it doesn't show - my mum took the picture

Pony Corral / Re: What is the Silliest pony name ever?
« on: May 27, 2018, 12:58:40 PM »
Wierdest one for me is the pony Romper since the norwegian word for butt is.. rumpe.
The name dont really fit for someone with rabbits as a symbol and I cant really translate it to Norwegian either.
Its the one pony I have not told my nieces the name on.

Huh. By reading your post I just learned the entomology of the slang word "rump", which usually is "butt".

Kinda echoing everyone else, to "romp" ("romping") is also slang, which I have seen used anywhere between wistful bounding/skipping and rough horse-play.

Not silly, but just poor use: "Pillow Talk" I think is the WORST, since that is the sweet-nothings that happen after making love.

Etymology, even. Entomology is bugs.

Romper is also a name for a type of one-piece outfit often worn by small children. I have no idea what that has to do with rabbits or ponies either.  :)

Rabbits and small children like to romp.

That they do. You're right  :frolic:

Pony Corral / Re: What were your pony misconceptions?
« on: May 25, 2018, 05:07:50 AM »
Growing up on the G2 toys and the G1 cartoon, I thought that G1 and G2 were the same thing. I didn't understand why some of the used ponies I got were bigger than the others and didn't have sparkly eyes, and I never twigged that they were closer to the style of the G1 show because they were G1 ponies... I had no idea there were different generations. I remember seeing the first few G3 ads on TV when I was about 10 or 11, and I couldn't understand why they all looked different and lived in "Ponyville" instead of the "Pony Land" I was familiar with. I'd more or less left my childhood pony phase then, but I still thought they'd ruined it. I was a stubborn, pedantic pre-teen.  :P

Bright Bramley-what on earth even is a bramley?

It's a type of apple used in certain baking recipes. Her symbol is an apple so it sort of makes sense...  :apple:

Nightcap (I know it's supposed to be a hat but it makes me think of alcohol)

Couple of names from my G2 collection that I have similar thoughts about: Moonshine and Tipsy Tulip.  :soda:

Also Pinkie Pie IS really strange if you think about it.

Similar feelings here. I remember the first time I heard the name... I was just thinking "what?!"

Thanks!

Safflower, it's good to be back! Not sure how much I'll be posting but I will definitely be around.  :)

tailrustedtealeaf, good to know I'm not alone in appreciating the not-quite-mint condition ponies! They definitely are a unique bunch

I have PTSD, social anxiety and depression myself, and my collection of pre-loved G2s helps take me back to a time before all that, back to the days spent playing with my original herd in the 90s. I focus on collecting the ones in need of TLC because they make me happiest - the ones who have spent 20 years in a box make me sad and, in my opinion, have less personality. Haircuts and pen marks make me think "who was the child who loved this pony enough to do this?" - hence my username.  :)

Introductions / I'm baaaack!
« on: May 21, 2018, 05:34:01 AM »
Hi all, H&H here - I was sort of active a while back but my depression ended up keeping me away from the site and collecting for a bit. I'm back now though!

For those who don't know, I collect TLC G2 ponies pretty much exclusively. I'm not interested in customising and MOC/MIB ponies make me sad. My herd is a place where those pre-loved G2s can display their quirks with pride - the more love a pony has had in the past, the more it gets from me!  ;)

Looking forward to being part of the Arena again,
H&H
