Pony Corral / Re: Mail Order Majesty Discolors Less?
« on: March 26, 2021, 06:52:12 PM »
My Majesty is supposedly mail order. She has some areas of discoloration and yellowing but it's not uniform on the head and her body and head are both equally affected.
The problem that I see isn't head/body mismatch so much as brown spots and just general poor shape.

Yeah, I don't think those aliments are the same as head-body mismatch. Any pony can get age spots, usually caused by being stored somewhere without temperature control for years, I believe. Yours was probably not looked after, and naturally fell into poor shape. But it's interesting there's still no mismatch alongside her other discolorations!

Pony Corral / Mail Order Majesty Discolors Less?
« on: March 26, 2021, 12:33:05 PM »
Yesterday, I was reading my copy of Summer Haye's G1 Collector's Inventory book. I read to the mail order section, which documents every pony obtainable through horseshoe points and cash. This includes Majesty's mail order offer, of course. I didn't think there were differences in her two versions, but I was wrong! According to the book, if your Majesty's hairline (mane plugs) start roughly between the ears, she's from a playset. If the plugs practically touch her horn, she's from a mail order. I realized mine was the mail order version, which is cool!

Spoiler
This is the version of Majesty packaged with the Dream Castle playset,

And this Majesty, my own pictured, was from a special mail order offer.

I bought my Majesty two years ago because there's no discoloration between her head and body, pretty rare to see. I started to wonder, is the mail order version manufactured differently and less prone to head-body mismatch than her playset counterpart? I searched eBay and online images, and nearly every single playset Majesty had moderate to severe discoloration, while ones that appeared to be from mail orders had little to no mismatch! I mean, even Summer Haye's example of playset Majesty from thirteen years ago seems to of had a slightly yellowed head.

What's happening here? Are my observations accurate? If you have Majesty, cast a vote or leave a comment, and maybe we'll learn whether or not the mail order version truly ages better.

What an awful story! :cloud:
I'm glad they don't seem to be a hardcore pony collector today, that would be even worse. Still, a rare collector's item is a rare collector's item, so that's sad somebody took advantage of her kindness to steal Baby Moondancer. I hope your friend magically finds her in a second-hand shop for under a dollar, haha!

Pony Corral / Re: Who's Skates? An oddity on Twist's backcard
« on: March 18, 2021, 11:04:35 AM »
I'm thinking this was an early name for Speedy, or perhaps an unreleased ice-skating themed pony? I thought this was a little weird and wondered if anyone else noticed this!

Your hypothesis seems to add up. The first sets of Twinkle-Eyed Ponies and So-Soft ponies, where Speedy and Twist were introduced, are both Year 4. I can't find another pony from 1985-1986 that could've been realistically named Skates. What an interesting observation, I've never heard about this myself!

These circumstances remind me of how G1 Sprinkles was obviously supposed to be blue, but she seemingly changed to pink last minute before they could edit the playset's box... I really wish she was blue...

OK, does anybody else squish the heads of their softer ponies (mostly G1) really hard to see what cursed expressions you can make when you're bored? I feel like that's irresponsible for a collector, but... It doesn't permanently distort or damage anything, soooo...

I feel like some of these pictures have serious meme potential... Tabby's first image is probably what the first person to oxiclean boil a Princess Pony looked like after realizing their grave mistake...

Pony Corral / Re: Can I Restore Discolored Princess Royal Blue?
« on: March 12, 2021, 10:31:41 AM »
A possibility would be to sunfade her and see if that helps. MLPPreservationProject has a picture of a Wind Whistler that had yellowed before and after sunfading:

The hair has obviously been touched up, but I think you might see a difference in the body. :)

Oh, whoops. I know MLPPreservationProject, I found it years ago when I first started collecting. I guess I didn't check all the pages there last night, I only saw something about fading white ponies specifically. Thank you! I'll see if others agree with that idea or offer different suggestions. I find it interesting Wind Whistler looks to of had almost identical yellowing to my Princess Royal Blue, and is... a very similar color. Huh.

Wow, congratulations on the discovery! It's an international version too, which anybody from the US wouldn't find or of seen themselves. I suppose that's understandable since you're Canadian, so the fact probably doesn't make it too much more special there, but I still think it's neat!

Pony Corral / Can I Restore Discolored Princess Royal Blue?
« on: March 12, 2021, 10:07:20 AM »
If you saw my January acquisitions, then you'll remember Princess Royal Blue. However, I scored her condition a low 5/10 because she has awful, yellowish discoloration. I'm wondering if I can restore her blue color instead of just upgrading her someday? I have closeup pictures under the spoiler.

Spoiler
I'll start by saying I don't know what damaged her at all. If this is sun damage, wouldn't the light pink blush be noticeably faded?

It's still vibrant on her discolored face.

Although, the underside of her hooves and the backsides of her legs are still bright blue, which would fit the possibility they avoided sun exposure. That also shows her vinyl isn't fundamentally ruined.

We need to remember her delicate symbols when considering "treatment" as well.

If anybody can offer help or good tips, please reply! My parents gifted Princess Royal Blue to me from a listing I linked them. The photos weren't good enough, and although I could tell she was dirty, I didn't think there'd anything unexpected after cleaning. I wouldn't of wanted her if I knew her true colors (pun intended), but I don't want to give up on a present pony.

I loved looking at all the vintage photos! I've definitely never seen any of it before, though, must've been long before my time. Still, it seems like a website with a lot of love and fun content put into it. I wonder if there's any info on what happened to the ladies behind this ancient page, haha!

Pony Corral / Re: POTD 3/8/2021 Dancing Butterflies
« on: March 08, 2021, 10:20:36 PM »
Dancing Butterflies was one of the first G1 ponies I ever got. When I began collecting, I started with four cheap ponies from eBay to see if I really liked them. One of my purchases was the pegasus herself, and she's still a top favorite 100+ ponies later. She's also in possibly the best toy photo I've ever snapped... I LOVE this horse!!!
Mine is an awesome bold yellow, practically spotless. Her symbols are great too, besides a few odd smears or scratches. The mane and tail are full, although fairly dry and sadly didn't respond to my flat-iron treatment. Still, I'd rate her condition a solid
8/10.

I don't know how helpful this is, but I think you missed a listing for Jade in December on eBay. The good news is it only sold for $20 brand new with tags, not too bad considering its elusiveness. I searched "douglas cuddle toys dragon" to find it, I recommend saving that search or similar ones if you haven't already. Good luck, dude!

Pony Brag Arena / MLP Acquisition - Feb 2021
« on: March 01, 2021, 02:38:04 PM »
Yup, I only bought one My Little Pony in February because I wanted to spend more money on my Bakugan toy collection instead. Fortunately, it's an awesome pony I've been wanting for months, and there's a funny story involved.

Chief is my favorite US male pony, but unfortunately, I couldn't find or catch active listings of him on eBay in good condition... OK, there was one option. I kept stumbling onto a fairly long-standing listing of a scuffed-up, although certainly salvageable Chief for... $80. EIGHTY. DOLLARS. No accessories, AND dirty! Oh, don't worry, the seller eventually discounted him to $70. What a BRILLANT deal, right? No.

However, the listing had a "Make Offer" button to negotiate the price. I had nothing to lose, so I sent a $25 offer and politely explained how grossly overpriced Chief was. You can imagine my absolute shock when the seller responded quick and nicely, and we settled on $30! I was so sure judging by the first impression they'd be stubborn or unfair! I left positive feedback.

Spoiler
G1 Chief
Condition: 7.5/10 - His mane has a thinned plug, but it's great hair otherwise! Although they're not too distracting, there's faint blemishes and odd blue stains scattered on his body. He might be an 8.

Pony Corral / Re: Pony Dreams
« on: March 01, 2021, 11:02:14 AM »
I found this thread! YES! I finally had a pony dream last night!!

First, the setting... My bedroom with its My Little Pony cabinet was seemingly 100% recognizable. I remembered a lot of exact positions and arrangements of the ponies inside as well! However, the rest of my house was different and resembled the home of somebody's I went to once, then never again.

What happened? I kept walking into my bedroom to see my pony collection, and noticing that ponies were moving places. Some moved several inches, while others had jumped to another shelf entirely. I tried to keep putting them back, but I'd always return to see more ponies shifted around. A few even eerily returned to their precise altered placements. I grew increasingly unsettled without any explanation of the "supernatural" circumstances.

I apparently told my parents about my magical, moving equines while they were cooking in the kitchen, but I don't know what they said. I believe it was mild concern at most, which is funny because IRL they'd be far more interested. I also had a little brother running around in my dream??? From the extremely vague recollection I have, he looked between 4-6 years old. It's bizarre considering I'm an only child.

The dream ended before I discovered why my ponies were going Toy Story on me whenever I left the room... But I'm pretty sure the fictional little brother was orchestrating it. One time, I vividly remember coming back to my pony cabinet to find an ugly orange fakie on one of the cabinet shelves. I'll tell you, if I did have little siblings and they wanted My Little Ponies like mine, I definitely would've sacrificed a knockoff horse instead of a collectible, authentic one.

Yes, I'm disappointed it wasn't a pony-obsessed ghost haunting my collection, too. I woke up this morning briefly thinking all of those events were real, to top off this hilarity. Overall, my dream was absolutely stupid and weirdly memorable.
