De-sparkle-ing G3 Sparkle Ponies?
« on: March 01, 2014, 11:26:47 PM »
Hey ponies!

The title says it all. Is there a way to remove the glitter from the G3 Sparkle ponies' foreheads and symbols? I have a Desert Rose sitting here that I would love to de-sparkle but the stuff that seals the glitter is rock-hard. Is there any solution or should I just give up?

Same! I have Cactus Blossom and I want that horrid glitter off her nose! At the wrong angle it looks like dandruff :(

I remember asking this question some time back and I was told there is no way to do it without damaging the pony. I still think you should be able to get it off their foreheads with something like acetone, as there is no paint underneath, but I have been a little scared to try..

Goodness knows why they ruined so many perfectly lovely G3s with this stuff! Merriweather especially..

I have tried to remove the forehead sparkles with acetone and it didn't do anything. I was afraid to sand it off because I didn't want to scratch the pony.
I have both versions of Merriweather on their way to me. Somehow it doesn't bother me on her but it really bugs me on Desert Rose. The sparkle sealant looks kinda yellow-ish on her and if I can't get it off I might sell her again. I can be very picky about ponies X)

Oh, I'm surprised acetone didn't work, must be some heavy duty glitter!

Heh, I asked the same question several months ago :) I was also told acetone though I never tried it. If acetone didn't work though I have no idea how to get it off :( I would be afraid to sand it off as well.

You have to actually soak the forehead in acetone for a good long while. It takes forever and I usually get tired of waiting and pull it out early and sand the rest off. If you are careful, you won't scratch the pony.

One of the other customisers payed a great tip a while back for noses (I've since used it numerous times): un-roll a cotton wool ball a little, soak in acetone and drape it over pony's nose. Leave for a little while then wipe off. Obviously longer for more stubborn glitter.

I just use 100% Acetone or even Goobegone Gel (let it set for a little while) ... it make take some severe coaxing, but it will come off without hurting the pony. :)

some of the cheap dollar store brands of acetone don't work very well. Maybe try a different brand?

I get my acetone directly fom the pharmacy. Always have to fill out a form to prove to them I'm not using it to build a bomb ;)

Thanks for the advise, everybody! I was afraid to downright soak Desert Rose's forehead in acetone because I thought it would destroy the pony. Looks like I'll be trying it after all!

Why would you want to remove it? Don't you know that these are exercise-themed ponies? The glitter is supposed to look like sweat beading down their faces--I think it's pretty convincing too! I love working out with my G3 glitters, and we just sweat together. They give me the strength to keep pushing it harder and harder, until I'm as sweaty as they are!

If the glitter is sweat, does that mean Pretty Parasol and Merriweather's symbols actually show an umbrella in a rain of sweat? Do not want.
