My daughter is 7 and has sensitive skin. She also developed body odor very young. Now that she plays basketball and has gym, I think it has made the odor worse. Anyone elses daughter had this problem? Any suggestions on very mild deodorant we could use? I'm not sure if she's too young for deodorant?
I should also mention that the doctor suggested we put neosporin under her arms to kill the bacteria. I have done that but would love for her to be able to apply something herself.

Toms of Maine has a great apricot one which both of my daughters started with. My youngest is 7 too.

How about the crystal deodorant (solid one)has zero chemicals and works! :)

I agree..Love this!!!

I use Dove, and it's the only thing that works for me. the classic powder is very gentle <3
-
I started out using Secret, which I still use to this day. They've got a variety of scents to choose from, and so far the few I've tried (powder fresh, etc.) were very gentle on my skin. ^__^

I remember the deodorant I used when I first started wearing it was Teen Spirit. Good grief, that was a long time ago!

Dove really is great and gentle. I think they even make a sensitive skin variety! It's well worth the extra price - and this is coming from a big penny pincher ;)

I'll put in another vote for Dove. Go for roll-on, rather than spray; sprays can be obnoxious and roll-on is pretty discreet and portable. Let her choose her own flavour, though! :)

I agree with this one. For someone so young, I like the idea of no chemicals. I've used the 'rock' or crystal deodorant and it does work. I actually prefer antipersperant so don't use the rock very much. All deodorants and antiperspirants contain chemicals of some kind (or nearly all) and are absorbed by the skin. An adult can 'handle' higher levels of chemicals in the body that a young child, after all, they are so much smaller. For the sensitive skin aspect, the rock will also help. And it's odorless for those with scent allergies, like me.

LOL Me too! Does that stuff even still exist?

Cant remember what I started off on but dove is supposed ot be very gentle <3

I have never heard of rock or toms of maine deodorant but I will definitely look into it. Thanks everyone!

I also had to start wearing deodorant fairly young, and have incredibly sensitive skin. The only brands that don't make me itch have been Nivea and Soft&Dri. :)

ps.
I would only recommend crystal deodorant it's very safe and has zero chemicals all the other deodorants have chemicals that a young child could possible have a bad reaction or an allergy through years of using.
there is no such thing like deodorant with no chemical except crystals for me.(especially those with perfume )

I have very sensitive skin and I use Tom's of Maine unscented. Works great.

Haha, same here! I was just going to suggest it. I, personally, had problems with it occasionally. It would make me itch something fierce. >.<
I'm going to hop on the Dove boat as it's supposed to be great for sensitive skin. Best of luck!

I just looked it up, they still make two scents of it, Sweet Strawberry and Pink Crush! I used Caribbean Cool back in the day, lol.

I would defenitely suggest you find a more natural deodorant without aluminium, which may be linked to breast cancer, alzheimers etc.
However in my experience Tom's of Maine is not effective at all, I've had much more luck with the crystals, but I've yet to find a really great organic deodorant. Here's a link for some other products for anyone interested: http://ecosalon.com/best-organic-deodorants-the-search-is-over/. Please note I haven't tried most of these so can't recommend them as such.

I haven't been using a crystal stone for long but I like it so far! This is mine:
Thai Crystal Deodorant Stone: www.deodorantstones.com Just minerals salts- no oils, aluminum, chemicals, or perfumes.

Can't say I've ever heard of a deodorant that was harmful to kids. I'd probably look for one that says it's specifically for sensitive skin, though I'm no expert.
I personally like the ones that have different scents. Ya know, lavender or roses or something like that. :>
The one I use currently is called "truth or pear."

The chemical cocktails in deodorants and other products are potentially harmful to all of us, not to mention the environment..

I could have swoooorn I've seen deodorant (like a common brand) with a "for kids" after the title in the store...but it's been awhile since I've had to restock my deodorant supply so I might just be inadvertantly making that up, lol. :)

My son (who is 9) needs deodorant and he wants to be like Dad and Grandpa. SO he uses Old Spice. That will be stopping now that I've read the livestrong article posted by Miss Violet. I'll hit up the store tomorrow for Alba or Toms!

Aww heck yes, just give lil Junior some Old Spice.
As somebody who dated an individual who uses Old Spice I can confirm its greatness.

It explains why all the girls in school want to be his girlfriend now. XD
I will NEVER EVER EVER let him use Axe, though. We had a guy come into my work and he bathed in Axe, then stood there in the spray of Axe for an hour. The ENTIRE store smelled like him. T_T I was gagging!!

Tom's of Main has no aluminum salts in it. It's not an antiperspirant, just a deodorant and it works great! I use it and while I'll still sweat there's really no stinky BO to go with it. I just don't like the idea of shutting down my sweat glands.

I'm really the same way?? Like sweating is such a natural thing and it keeps us cool. You'd think antiperspirants would increase your chances of overheating if they don't let you sweat. But, again, I'm no expert.

This is what I started using as well. It was retro with hippy flowers all over it. Didn't help Nirvana's smells like teen spirit was big. ha ha I thought it was ironic, a song about MY deodorant?!
ha ha it had nice fruit scents and was very mild.
