Off Topic / Need help naming my bunny!
« on: March 09, 2015, 10:01:55 PM »
I've had this little puffball for over a week now and he still doesn't have a name! Usually I have no problem coming up with names, but I'm at a loss here! He's a pure white lionhead bunny with blue eyes. He's super soft, and just the cutest little thing!

I was thinking maybe something regal and ridiculous since he's a lionhead, or maybe something that ties in with his blue eyes. "His Majesty Prince Sapphire" was one I was kicking around :P Thought about naming him Swiftheart after the rabbit from Care Bears, but...he's a little too round and fluffy for a name like that. If he were black or gray I'd call him Nimbus. (Cumulus doesn't have the same ring to it! :P)

I need a name ASAP-- I've just been calling him "Mr.Buns," and I don't want that one to stick! :P

Off Topic / Any US members live near an Ikea?
« on: December 08, 2014, 10:30:22 AM »
Hi all! I'm looking for help from someone who lives near an Ikea. One of the hard-to-shop-for people I need to buy  for this Christmas wants this FADO lamp from Ikea.

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70096377/

Of course, it's not available online (of COURSE, right?) and there are no Ikea stores in my area. I can get them on other online sites, but they're more than double the cost. Can anyone help me out? I'd be happy to reimburse for gas and time as well.

Thanks in advance!

Off Topic / Makeup help-- acne and blemished skin?
« on: May 19, 2014, 11:31:29 AM »
Let me start off by saying that I know absolutely nothing about makeup. I never wear it-- no desire to. Which is probably just as well, because I'm one of those lucky individuals whose acne stuck with them even after those awkward high school days, and I know makeup isn't the best thing for acne. I'm in my mid-20's now and still have terrible skin.

While I don't appreciate it at all, I can live with it, EXCEPT for three days a year when I'm cosplaying at my favorite anime convention. I do want to hide my blemishes and acne scars as much as I can while I'm parading around dressed as princesses and such. My skin also gets oily and shiny very quickly, so I'd also like to cut down on that as well.

In the past, I've used a mineral foundation that I got at Costco a couple years back. It works a little bit-- evens out my skin tone a little, but doesn't help tons. If I put much on, then I just look powdery, and all those little fine, nearly-invisible facial hairs are suddenly skin-toned and much more visible. But if I put less on, it doesn't do much to cover blemishes.

I know there are plenty of makeup-savvy ladies on this forum. Does anyone have any recommendations? Brands to try? As specific as possible would be great because I'm very very makeup-inept. I know you usually get what you pay for, but I'm hoping to find something that's not very expensive, as I'll only wear it, literally, 3 days a year. Help, I have no idea what I'm doing!

Off Topic / Skylanders figures- help
« on: January 12, 2014, 04:47:13 AM »
Ok, so I'm brand new to Skylanders; I got Swap Force a week ago and that's the first Spyro game I've played since Enter the Dragonfly :P So at this point, I have the figures that came with the game, plus a few of my very favorites (original Sonic Boom, the second(?) version of Whirlwind, the second(?) version of Cynder, and Lightcore Flashwing. I just grabbed those because they were my favorites for purely aesthetic reasons, and TRU was having a sale :P

I also have a little list of other Skylanders that I'd like to get eventually, but at this point, there are multiple versions of most of them. And with most of them, I like previous versions better than the most current version (like how Flashwing is the only one of my 4 who I own the most recent version of.) Is there any reason I shouldn't buy older versions of the figures? For example, I like the original Camo a lot more than Thorn Horn Camo. Is there any disadvantages, gameplay-wise, to seeking out the older figure?

And Drobot. I like his second version; that pose is my favorite by far. But his newest incarnation is a lightcore. Is lightcore Drobot better for some reason? I think I read something about Lightcores having an extra ability...or something? I didn't notice anything special with my Lightcore Flashwing (aside from the glowing, of course, and her general badassery) but I don't have a regular Flashwing to compare her to...

TLDR: I want to buy older versions of these characters because I like their looks better, but I don't want to be sorry later if I find out that the newer versions had extra features or better abilities or something.

And last question-- has Scratch been released yet? I swear I did try to look this up online, and couldn't find a clear answer.

Edit: Here's my little crew

Off Topic / Book-Swapping Sites?
« on: November 25, 2013, 08:55:22 AM »
Hi all! I know we have a lot of readers on the forum, and wondered if any of you had any suggestions for good sites to swap books.

I've tried out a couple in the past, and to be honest their names are usually so similar that I forget which ones are the ones I've tried and which ones I've only read about.

I'm looking specifically for a site that lets you trade books directly. I don't like the pay-it-forward point system that most of the sites seem to have. I tried it once. Traded away a couple of new popular YA books. Got a couple of points to request new books, great. Went to request books from my list....and all the good ones had waiting lists several thousand people long. I was able to get an older book off my list, but never did find anything I wanted to get with the points I'd gotten from my other book, so I essentially ended up just giving that book away. (I think that site may have been PaperbackSwap?)

There was another site I was a member of that I actually liked. It matched you with other people (sometimes two other people, to make 3-way trades possible) and you traded a book you had for a book on your want list. It was great. Only problem I had with that one was that there were a couple of books that I really wanted to get rid of that weren't on the site's list (too new, maybe?) so I couldn't list them to trade them away. Also, it seems like that site eventually shut down. I can't seem to find it anymore.

Every so often I go on a big book binge. I buy a bunch of new books, carefully selecting them based on reviews from Amazon and Goodreads. And usually, despite my careful research, the majority of them suck. But I'm left with a handful of books that are new and apparently popular, that I'd love to trade away rather than just donating (being brand new and all) or keeping them around collecting dust.

So, readers, does such a site exist? Is there still hope that I can trade away my extra copy of Insurgent and get something back for it that was written in the last decade? Or are The Raven Boys and Die For Me destined to sit on my shelf until the end of time, because I can't bring myself to send my shiny new hardcovers off to a garage sale?

Off Topic / Anyone here in California and own horses? Minis?
« on: June 21, 2013, 11:13:15 PM »
I'm trying to figure out what it would realistically cost to keep a horse in my area, so I can figure out if it's something I could ever afford in the future. I'm also looking for cost information on the upkeep of miniature horses in particular. Cost of food is the area I'm having the most trouble getting a good idea of pricing for.

The prices I'm finding in my research either must be from people in another region of the US, or I'm buying my hay from the wrong place. I've lurked on a couple of forums where people talk about getting hay for $3-$5 a bale. Hay here is roughly $16-$23 a bale depending on the type, judging by the prices I see on my local Craigslist and at the feed store. Is this typical for California? I can't imagine there could be such a ridiculously huge difference in price regionally, am I just shopping in the wrong places? I'd love to hear from any fellow Californians about the cost of feeding their horse, miniature or full sized.

Horsey pics are encouraged, too! :D

Off Topic / Can anyone ID these dolls?
« on: April 22, 2013, 06:57:21 PM »

They came in a bag that also had Strawberry Shortcake and Quints dolls, so I assume they're from the 80's or 90's. I was sure that the pink thing was a Snugglebum, but it doesn't look like any of them. The blue doll looks very Kenner, but I can't place her, either. I looked through Ghost of the Doll and didn't find either of them, though I certainly could have missed it.

Arts & Crafts Corral / Pearls in her hair~
« on: April 14, 2013, 08:44:55 PM »
These are a couple of commissions I did for Mermaid here on the Arena a little while back. She had the idea for a beautiful sea-themed carousel pony persona, and I drew it out for her. I absolutely loved her ideas and loved drawing this pony!

The watercolor one was the original and the other one was done much later and with a different coloring style I've been trying out.

The Dollhouse / Group orders? (Camellia Dynasty, possibly Leekeworld)
« on: March 12, 2013, 09:03:57 PM »
I hope this is okay to post here...

Ok, so my tiny, dinky little 10g kitty wings put me 10g over the limit for the "cheaper" shipping from Camellia Dynasty and into the next shipping bracket, which is kind of heinously expensive :C Is there anyone else who wants anything from Camellia Dynasty and wants to get together for a group order, or is there a group order already going on that I could get in on? I know a pony forum probably isn't the best place to ask, but I don't have many other options :P

(Same goes if anyone's planning an order from Leekeworld....beautiful wigs are sexy but $22 shipping is not :drunk: )

The Dollhouse / So I just got my first BJD... (wig help?)
« on: March 03, 2013, 06:09:33 PM »
So, it was kind of an impulse thing. BJD's are much too pricey and fancy for me and I swore I'd never own one since there's no way I'd ever be able to afford the only doll I'd seen who was worth his price tag. (Soom Aloa...*swoon*) But I randomly discovered Resinsoul/Bobobie and their reasonable prices quite recently, and fell in love with their dolls, and long story short I now own a MSD Mei :P

I ordered her from DenverDoll, and she arrived much quicker than I'd expected. I hadn't even picked out a wig to order for her yet! So now she's here, and this lovely girl needs hair! :P Which is where my immediate problem lies. From what I've read, Mei wears a size 6-7 wig. But all my favorite wigs are size 7-8. Can Mei wear a 7-8 wig, or would it be too big for her? Would her long ears pose a problem?

I found an ebay wig that I think she'd look nice in, but it's a 7-8. I can only really afford to get her one wig for now, so I'd hate to get it and have it not fit...but I'd also hate to have to settle for one I don't really love, too. If only Leekeworld's shipping wasn't so high...talk about beautiful wigs!

Also, I wonder if any of you have Meis you'd like to show off? I'd love to see her sculpt with different colors and styles of hair to get a better feel for how different wigs would look on her!

Thanks in advance!

Arts & Crafts Corral / Bounce bounce bounce~
« on: February 17, 2013, 09:34:34 PM »
Rejoice, I'm not dead! I got a full-time job a year ago, and have had very little energy or motivation to draw at all since then :( But it's a new year and  I'm trying to be better about drawing this year!

Bouncy was an experimental picture I did this afternoon because for the first time in ages, I actually felt like drawing. I wanted to practice a couple of different coloring techniques that were a little fancier than the plain cell shading I usually go with for my pony pictures.

I think she came out okay; I hope you guys like her!

(And to the lovely member who is still waiting on her commissioned piece from me, I promise it will be ready soon!)

Off Topic / Strawberry Shortcake...which version do I have?
« on: January 14, 2013, 12:42:29 PM »
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I picked these guys up this weekend. Obviously I have Strawberry herself, and her cat, and I ID'd her "twin" as Huckleberry Pie. (My bad, Huckleberry!) But I'd love to know which version of the doll I have. She has flat hands (as does Huckleberry,) which I believe should mean she was the first version of the doll released. But she isn't wearing the outfit that that the first-release doll had. I did some internet searching yesterday and didn't see this outfit at all. Also, this doll had her cat (although he was in a different bag, and after all these years it's certainly possible that this particular doll isn't the one he originally came with.) which I believe the first release of the doll was never sold with.

So, there's my dilemma. Any experts out there who can tell me which version of the doll and which outfit this is? :)

P.S. Custard is the cutest thing ever omg
______________________

Edit: So I just discovered "berry wear." It looks like my doll is wearing the Berry Patch outfit...so it looks like what I have is a first-release doll wearing the SSC equivalent of PonyWear, with the cat from one of the later release dolls...is that right?

Off Topic / Anyone in Japan? I'm looking for an item...
« on: December 30, 2012, 11:44:51 AM »
Hey all :) I know we don't have many members in Japan here, but I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm looking for an item (well, three items, technically...) that I'm having trouble finding online both in stock and with reasonable shipping costs.

I'm looking for three little Tamagotchi accessories called "deco pierces" that are little charm-like things that plug into the front of the Tamagotchi. http://www.amiami.com/top/detail/detail?gcode=TOY-IPN-04104
(Besides the heart-shaped accessory, there's also a star-shaped one and a jewel-shaped one I'm looking for.)

I know it's a stretch, but if anyone happens to be over there and can find all three accessories, you'd have my undying gratitude :) I know there's a Tamagotchi store in Harajuku where I'm sure they can be found. Other than that, I have no clue, but I can't imagine they'd be too terribly hard to find. I hope.

(And to the member who posted that thread about Tamagotchi a few months ago and started this whole thing, my wallet would like to say that it hates you. But I am having fun with my three-but-soon-to-be-four new Japanese Tamagotchi XP)

Off Topic / Going to Ireland! Any advice?
« on: September 24, 2012, 05:44:55 PM »
On Friday I'll be on my way to Ireland for a 2-week trip with my mom, grandma, and aunt. I've wanted to go for a long long time, so I'm very excited :)

I wondered if there are any Irish members here (or members who have visited Ireland before) who can tell me a little bit about what to expect. I'm from California, and I'm used to wearing flip flops, jeans and a tank top year-round and just throwing on a light sweatshirt when it gets chilly. I'm not sure what Ireland's going to be like this time of year, but it sounds like it might be a little cooler over there. Am I going to freeze if I don't pack woolly underwear and ski gear? :P

I've also heard tales from the European ponies of magical places called "car boot sales." Do they have those in Ireland, or just in other specific parts of Europe?

Also, that nifty store (I think it's called Primark? Or is Primark a brand?) where everyone is finding those adorable G1 shirts, do they have those in Ireland?

Anything else I should know? Specific food I should try, or try to stay away from? Things I need to bring or places I need to see? We will be going as part of a tour, but it's a very small tour (my group of 4 makes up 1/3 of it) and it's supposedly very lax, so I expect to have time to explore a bit on my own.

Thanks in advance for any input :)

Off Topic / Fanime, anyone?
« on: May 21, 2012, 10:34:29 PM »
I didn't get much response when I asked last year, but we've gotten lots of new members since then, so I'll ask again this year....anyone going to Fanime this weekend? :) I'll be there from Thursday night through Sunday afternoon. My costumes are....still in the works, but I have one pony-themed one that should be done on time ;) If any other Arena members are going, I'd love to meet up!
