Off Topic / Re: Meet your new Princess - Update: TOYS & TRAILER
« on: November 13, 2018, 09:17:56 AM »
I have watched the first three episodes so far. Non-spoiler / first impression review is that I think they've done a fabulous job. Is it different than the original? Yes. But it's also fun and well put together in its own way Here are my thoughts. Warning: spoilers!

Spoiler
-- The horse they find in the preview clip gets turned into Swiftwind by the sword and does not transform back and forth.

-- There is a Cowl plush pillow in one of the Brightmoon guest rooms.

-- Madame Razz does make an appearance in episode 3 and the predictions from an earlier post are accurate.

-- So far, my favorite character is Bow.

-- Glimmer's powers are better explained than in the original.

-- The connection between Catra and Adora is youthful and intersting.

The more I see, the more eager I am for Tuesday to get here. This is going to be fun. :)

Great resources, Molly. :) I'm from Canada, but I do follow US politics since my BF is from Pennsylvania. Regardless of who anyone supports, giving voice to your beliefs and supporting the candidate who supports those beliefs is very important. Democracy is a gift and a privilege and we should not waste it.

I'm getting ready for NaNoWriMo and I have 50 Lindt truffles sitting here--one for every 1,000 words I write next month. :D Finishing a book is never going to have tasted so sweet. That, or I'm going to be very, very sick of Lindt truffles by the end of November. We shall see.

I am so hyped for this. I've watched the trailer at least six times now. Really want the toys, too, but I'll need to think about it with the two figures (She-Ra and Catra) being $70 USD for the pair. They're available for pre-order online and for me it's not just 'are the worth it?', but moreso 'can I fit them in my budget?' that is giving me pause.

I like the increased depth on the relationship between Adora and Catra. I like the fact that we do see some resistance from Glimmer when she and Adora meet. Bow's line was hilarious. As for She-Ra's identity not being a secret, this actually makes sense considering (far as I know) we're not getting Light Hope, Madam Razz or Cowl, who were essentially her secret keepers.

I also like what they've done with Hordak and Shadow Weaver. The new designs look fabulous. Plus, so many of the other characters who got shown in the trailer also look cool and / or have cool abilities or glimpses of interesting personalities shown. Really loving Mermista and Angela there.

The best I can really say is that this will definitely be trying to draw my attention away from NaNoWriMo next month. I'm going to want to get a head start early on if I want to finish my novel.

Your post reminds me of a trip that Jay and I had to Chapters (think Canadian Barnes & Noble) a few years back. We go there now and then to add new books on writing to my collection. I picked up a book on editing that I thought sounded very good and wandered over to a chair to take a look through it before buying.

Good thing I did! It was a reissue of one of my favorite books on editing. It had a new cover and new forward, but outside of that the core bits of it were stuff I already had at home. I can't begin to imagine how annoyed I would've been if I'd just grabbed it and left.

I saw the trailer for this yesterday. Absolutely cannot wait for it to release. It will be fun to see what they do with these characters and overall premise.

I noticed they have one that's a pug. Well, if I want that I can just go downstairs. Pugsly's totally got that covered.

I watch most of my movies at home, generally rented via YouTube. But I picked going to the theatre because that's something Jay and I do when he visits and I love it. It's not necessarily the most practical way to watch a movie, but it's an experience and its unique and generally memorable for me.

I've got Eevee pre-ordered on Amazon. Really sounds like I should've pre-ordered Pikachu since Eevee is so popular, but I got my pre-order for $20 off so I really don't wanna change it and lose the savings.

I like imgur. They've changed their setup a little, but once you learn the change it's still pretty easy.

1. Go to their website
2. Post the image you want to share.
3. Right click the image and select "open in new tab"
4. Copy the url.
5. When putting it here on the arena, put it between [ img ] [ /img ] tags (without the spaces).

I don't think you can crop or resize on imgur like you could on pb, though, so make sure your stuff is no more than 600 pixels wide so it will work properly.

I hope this helps. :)

Battle for Azeroth released at 6 p.m. Eastern on August 13th, and Jay and I hit the ground running and have not stopped. I'm watching my Shadow Priest do her combat moves or falling off steep ledges in desert or lush jungle in my sleep. The storyline for the new expansion has been pretty fun, so far I haven't found any dungeons I hate, and the World Quest system--while it's eating a lot of our time--is both extremely fun and rewarding.

Darkside are my favorite by a mile. Shame they are hard to find these days. The Orchard ones are also pretty cool. And Original are nice.

I've been to BAB three times and have enjoyed doing the heart ritual each time. I see no harm in doing silly stuff in there--I figure it's important to maintain the immersion for little kids, if nothing else. That said, it's also important that they respect others' wishes if they don't want to do that. My bf did the heart ritual when we went to get bears together, but there's no way he would ever have done that alone and I would be upset if someone made him uncomfortable since he has anxiety about doing awkward stuff alone in public.
