Advice on Brazil pony hair
« on: March 13, 2013, 03:56:41 PM »
I received some ponies from Brazil and their manes and tails are very frizzy. Is there anything I can do to smooth them out or is it better to leave them as is? I wasn't sure if the Brazil ponies have the same kind of mane/tail material as US ponies. *Nirvana newbie here*

Brazilian hair is different than other pony hair and becomes frizzy very easily. I've treated frizzy Brazil hair the same as any other pony hair with success. I shampoo and condition the hair as usual, while the hair is coated in conditioner I flat iron on the lowest setting to help fix the frizz. Then I'll rinse the conditioner out and flat iron a bit more. Make sure the hair is wet at all times when flat ironing to avoid melting. I've had good results with my Paradise, Twist and my friend did an awesome job on my Love Melody before I bought her. I find it doesn't get as flat and nice as "normal" pony hair but mine have turned out a lot better. Good luck with your girls : )
Congrats and welcome to the Brazilian world!! Which ones did you get? Any pics?

Thanks for the quick reply Lady Starflower. I don't have pics yet but I got Cotton Candy, Blue Belle, Minty, North Star, Shady and Sprinkles. Sprinkles will be my greatest challenge because I think she has black sharpie written on her. I'm going to do my best to improve these girls!

the hair is a different texture and colour to US pony hair, in fact most of the nirvana ponies if not all have unique hair colours and textures :)

i suggest washing and conditioning your pony's hair to start with and see how it goes from there.

You can get some AMAZING results on Brazil hair with conditioner and a flat iron.  And if it's not good enough when you're done, let it dry and do it again.  I've recently gone over my whole Brazil herd again with the flat iron and the results the second time are even more incredible!  :)
