We use Scoop Away - it clumps much better than anything else we have tried including Tidy Cats and World's Best. It is not dust free but does control odor well and doesn't track much.

I got my Dream Castle in December of 1984 (found a photo labeled with the date that showed me with the box). So, if the poorer quality ones were produced first, they were fixed pretty early on well before the mail order version came out. I'm not sure when Majesty was first available via mail order, but the earliest pamphlet I could find mentioning her is from 1988.

I'd be very careful of determining whether a Majesty came from MO versus the playset strictly on the hairline. While the ones with their hair starting far back between the ears are almost certainly all playset versions you can't say the same for the ones with better hair and hairlines being exclusively mail order. Here is my playset Majesty (childhood pony so 100% certain she came with the playset) - lovely hair that starts well in front of the ears though not all the way to the horn and pretty much evenly white. visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I have seen the series 3 5-packs (Target) and the Sugar Sweet Rainbow 12 pack (also Target I believe) though it's been quite awhile since I found them. I have not seen the series 4 5-packs or any of the rest of series 5; so, if those were released, they never made it to the stores around here.

Since you described it as smelling vinegary and it's on a plastic box, it makes me think it might be "vinegar syndrome." Certain types of plastic are made with acetic acid (same thing that's in vinegar) and when they start breaking down it can come to the surface. Breyers made in the late 80s/early 90s can become "shrinkies" or "oozies" due to this which is how I heard of it. It's a problem for old film too and you can read more about the details here.

The yellow striped item is SSC Butter Cookie's hat.

And, I think this one is not MLP related... but do any of you know what the poster behind the door is? Looks familiar... Maybe Care Bears?

Looks like Shirt Tales to me - pretty sure I can identify Pammy and Digger on there and I'm thinking Bogey too.

Huh, I hadn't even realized they had variants. I vaguely remember there being a switch to a slightly different box style; so, I bet that's when they changed. I did get my Sunset first and she is the fancier version. The rest that I have came from well into the Toys R Us clearance sales, and they are the simpler versions.
I found video reviews of Rainbow Dash with glitter on her shirt and Fluttershy with glittery butterflies on her skirt. I couldn't find any photos etc. showing obvious differences for Twilight and Rarity though there may be some.

Oh wow, that's awesome! Nice to have the official names for the most of them too. I wonder if the yellow was a special set like the green one or if it was a late edition to the standard line.

Yep, definitely a Stone in the Western Pleasure Horse mold. You can see a pic of him here: http://www.modelhorsegallery.info/S/Stone/STWP/MHCs_STwp.html. I don't have any other information on him as I don't really follow Stones but the similarity of the mold to Breyer's Zippo mold was talked about quite a bit back when they first came out with it.

I found a set for myself at Gabe's. They had a couple extra Flash Feathers (green) that I picked up too that I will sell at cost ($3.27 + shipping and fees) - one per person.

Actually, it is MLP but not G4. It's from the G3 Ponyville advent calendar. I've been trying to identify a similar one I have that is white but with plain black eyes instead of blue.

The Emotions one is the smaller one although I'm not sure I would have noticed the size difference if I hadn't had both at the same time. Here's the pic of them side by side again - Mattel on left Emotions on right (you can see his tag): visitors can't see pics , please register or login
