"Meh, I wish we would have used pink hair on Sugarberry instead of red, it would have looked so much better, if only we could take it back. :| OMG GUYS! We can make a set of babies, so we can make them better versions of the existing adult set!" :rasp:

I think Hasbro didn't pay attention to the adult TAF babies when they made the babies and probably thought no one would notice or care that they were different species. Wasn't First Tooth Baby Fifi an Earth pony and her mother was a unicorn?  Maybe they thought kids would just enjoy having a mother/ baby pony set.  Baby Palm Tree was my Pina Colada's baby in my childhood herd so I always pretended Baby Palm Tree got her wings from her Pegasus father.

It's so fun reading everyone's responses so far :)

Ill go with hasbro trying something new. :)  :P I wish there were more TAF baby ponies. Baby Munchy would be so cuute.

That would have been awesome! I was actually just looking at my Nightglider and wishing they had made a Baby Nightglider.

What were they thinking...?

'How can we confuse people?'

I'd forgotten that Baby Fifi is also a different species than her mom. Maybe whoever was in charge of that first set of first tooth babies was in charge of the TAF baby set?

I think it is from daddy ponies! ;) lol

Well... as Mr. and Mrs. Cake (G4) would tell us, pony genetics can include all forms of ponies, and you just don't know what type of baby you might have! ;)

I don't mind differences such as eye/hair colour but different species does frustrate me a little bit. I recently got PKW to make me a custom earth TAF Baby Lollipop (Sweet Tooth) which is so cute :0D
But as a kid I did use to like putting my ponies into families which didn't necessarily match species, sometimes the baby was more like its dad!!

I vote tried something new. I'm not a big TAF fan but I like the babies better then most of their moms. As a kid growing up with MLP, Grand Champions etc. I do tend to get sick of families being carbon copies of each other.  Variety is good and three cheers for Hasbro!

I was randomly mulling over this today: why did Hasbro make the twice as fancy baby ponies so different from their mothers? So do you think Hasbro made them different on purpose? Or did they mess up? Or do you have another theory?

I think it is from daddy ponies! ;) lol

The funny detail on this is ...: how did Baby Up Up And Away get her horn? There are no unicorn boys :P

I know totally it would of been super cute to have matching babies, moms and dads. Though I like this as a customize so I can create whatever Hasbro lacked in the line. :) Imagine the horror on ebay with Daddy pegasus and unicorns being snatched up for over 100s of dollars that doesn't sound pleasant. ><: or matching taf baby newborns from the second set yikes.

I think the differences were done intentionally.

If you look at most series of ponies that were just 4 or 6 to a set, then all 3 "species" are represented- earthling, pegasus, and unicorn.   I think in this case, that 3 way split just happened to be even.  It also means they didn't need to have multiple poses like if 4 of them were earthlings.  I would guess 6 babies were chosen based on the fact that they are all different colors for variety and then somebody just slotted them into species!   So, perhaps a bit of all three choices!

I am with this theory. They were aiming for two of everything and for some reason this was the combo they went with. Oh Hasbro you puzzle us so :P
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

I think they figured people wouldn't want to buy them if they were nothing more than smaller versions of the exact same pony. Especially parents. "Honey, you already have this same one at home." "But Mommmmm, this one's SMALLER!"
