Finally figured out what is wrong with my rescue horse
« on: May 31, 2012, 08:38:38 PM »
PREGNANCY     the poor girl may be in end term pregnancy which is 9-10 months the poor girl was not only beaten, starved, and overworked.. but pregnant too!!! shes doing great but keeps foundering due to gestational diabetes! so no sugars no more. thats also why its been hard to put weight on her, all the nutrients and supplements have been going to the baby

i feel so dumb for not thinking of it, but when she started milking yesterday and something clearly kicked me from her belly when i leaned on her it dawned on me. so i may have "2" horses soon...   i sure wasnt expecting that one!!!not even the vet who has seen her 4 times noticed. so i guess i dont feel so silly not knowing. its cause she was bones when i got her so naturally the weight i wassumed was only from mutrition ad muscle toning ive been doing with her. but it was both LMAO.

the silly sneak has been hiding a secret from me for 3 months  thank god ive had her on all these supplements. if the foal survives it will be a miracle. i was told she should be dead let alone a baby in her!    >_<

Poor momma!  No wonder she was having trouble getting back in shape.  I hope she and her baby are both okay.

Don't blame yourself, given her condition, she *shouldn't* have been pregnant.  She's lucky you got her, clearly her old owners were horrible!

There was an incident like that at the animal sanctuary I used to help at. Took in 2 young male pigs (possibly kune-kunes). One promptly had 8 piglets and the pair were swiftly seperated!

But foals are bouncy and wobbly and fun to look at :)

I'm glad you've figured it out!  If she is starting to milk up, she is very close.

One thing to think of though; is she on fescue grass right now?  If she is, she needs to be taken off of it immediately and put on a hay of any other kind.  And then ask your vet about fescue toxicity medicine.  If she isn't on fescue, ignore this.  :)

I hope her and the baby will be fine.

Some mares start to drip "milk" a few weeks before, so hopefully the foal will stay in there a while longer. If she is only 9-10 months pregnant, the foal could be extremely premature if born now.

babylicketysplit: I hope everything goes well with the mom and the baby! <3 Good luck!

Whoa, that must have been a shocker!!!  Poor mama should never have been bred in that condition!  I'm glad you've figured it out, I hope that Renny and her foal will both be ok after this.  The good news is that she will probably feel much better once the kiddo is out!  You will HAVE to post pics of the baby though!
