Off Topic / Re: Healthy Pony Summer Sign Ups
« on: May 05, 2017, 01:15:15 PM »
Okay I am a bit late to sign up, the last couple weeks have been crazy!! But I want to participate again. Last summer it really helped my confidence.

1. What do you want to accomplish by the end of Healthy Pony Summer?

My main goal is to get writing again. This January I set a goal of getting my partially written comic script finished in a year. But I've been slightly distracted and such and have not been getting my booty in gear on it.

I also want to stop drinking coca-cola. I've gotten into a habit of stress drinking sodas instead of stress eating, just because my husband had them around ALL the time.

2. What are some steps you plan to make to reach your accomplishment.

To deal with the soda, I'm gonna limit myself to one a day at first. By june, I want to be down to one once a week, and hopefully by the end i'll be not drinking any at all. If I slip I'm gonna make myself clean the house for an hour per soda i slip with.

The writing I'm going to start by making sure I get in an hour a day no matter what type of writing, just as long as it's creative writing. Once I've gotten into a good rhythem of writing daily I'm gonna try to focus more on the script, but I'm going to try to not stress out if I cant focus on the script for a day.

Thanks Pkw

I had pondered scoring them before I started, but since it wasn't mentioned in the tutorial, I wasn't sure I needed to. I figured I'd follow the tutorial, why rough up a pony unless you have to, right? Next time I should probably follow my instincts.

Apoxie Sculpt! It's no baking required as it's a two part base that dries through chemical reaction over the course of several hours after being mixed. It's a blessing for fixing holes in ponies. I grabbed mine off Amazon. If you're a super perfectionist like me, you'll like want to sand it down a little after it cures, to make it flush with the rest of the pony. I recommend using an automotive wet/dry sandpaper. Using a the wet/dry when wet gives a you a very smooth even surface to work on when painting after.

I drape the hair over one knee. if you are using quality hair from dollyhair, retrodolls, etc the hair should stay together and be able to be picked up in single plug pieces :) you can also make the hair slightly damp

You can dampen the hair before you plug it?!! Why didn't I think of that? I've been using some of that Doll Planet stuff lately, which is silky smooth and has nice color, but I was having trouble making plugs with it going every which way.

So I'm doing a few ponies with sculpted wings for the first time.  I'm using this tutorial: http://eiriel.deviantart.com/art/Wing-Sculpting-Tutorial-59733330

But I'm finding that the cured apoxie sculpt keeps dislodging from the pony's body, so that the wire is the only thing holding the wings on to the ponies. I tried putting apoxie sculpt on the inside on one to try to prevent it, but it only seemed to help for a little while.  Does anyone have a good solution to prevent this or fix it after it's happened?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I was really hoping to get to airbrushing these this weekend, but it's starting to look like I'm going to have to start over.

My patronus is a Tonkinese Cat.

Mine too! It's strange how specific the quiz results are. I never thought I'd have anything to do with a Tonkinese cat in my lifetime.

It weirdly fits me when I think about it. One of my cats (my favorite/first one) is very Tonkinese in temperament. And felines are my favorite in general for anything. But I agree its very weird that there are even specific breeds of cat as results of that quiz. Does it happen with dogs? Has anyone gotten a dog as a patronus?

Has anyone else notice a decrease in cart wheels dropping by taping trees or collecting from shops? I've literally had only one drop from collecting from a shop in nearly a month. My husband says he's never had any drop by tapping trees, but I don't know how often he does it so I can't really compare.
since the previous update I have noticed there was no more cart wheels , i have tapped trees and nothing for me so far :(

They removed that feature.  No idea why but they confirmed in on their FB page some time ago.

Ah, that's why I didn't know, I don't usually bother to check their FB page. Thanks! They probably got rid of it because people like me who don't buy gems ever were using the wheels that drop from trees to keep up in some of the social events with the mine cart mini. It was the only way I got a few of the ponies. I assume it's to force people into buying more gems.

On another note I did FINALLY win Four Step from the social event!!!!!!! Took forever. I've missed out on her like 4 times now. And I finally got all my microphones today so I was able to get Coloratura!

It's happening right now! Gryffindor

My Ravenclaw mother-in-law and her Hufflepuff husband just got back from vacation at Universal last week and she insisted my husband and i try the quiz on Pottermore.
So on Pottermore I was sorted into Gryffindor. My patronus is a Tonkinese Cat. My wand is acacia wood with dragon heartstring core, bendy 12 3/4". And because I was ammused by the story, my Ilvermirny house seems to be Tunderbird.

Honestly I've always been torn between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw and have leaned more towards Ravenclaw, but I do find some of the attributes Hermione had in her early years very similar to my own at that age. I was a complete know-it-all, top of the class, and outspoken about anything that didnt seem fair.

My husband was sorted into Ravenclaw, hasn't checked his patronus yet though. And his wand is an applewood with unicorn, ridged 14 1/4".

Customs / Re: Mod Podge question
« on: February 20, 2017, 10:37:45 AM »
I haven't used Mod Podge myself. I did get some half finished baits from some customizers that used Mod Podge to seal the base paint and I found it really dirty and sticky. But it needs to considered that the baits had been shipped during the summer and I live in the southern part of the US where it's very humid and hot, that may have had an effect on it. With no other experience with it, I'm afraid that's just anecdotal at best.

I personally love Testors Dullcote and haven't had any problems with it. If Amazon is a resource available to you, they have it on there for just over 5 USD.

If you're worried about the Mod Podge ruining your ponies,  my thoughts would be to take a bait you don't care about, and to some lengthy tests on it, see how the Mod Podge reacts to temperature/humidity changes, the paint brand you're using, etc

Hopefully you get it all sorted with some more experienced advice than mine. Sorry I can't be more help.

I really hope we'll be able to pull the money together to go. It was so much fun last year. And I was so stoaked on the idea of doing a soda tasting.

Thank you everyone! You're encouragement really means all the world to me.

I'll try to get some up close pictures of their symbols soon. Though I'm thinking of revamping Raspberry's a little since her raspberries don't show up well (it's what I get for changing her base color right as I'm about to start airbrushing) and my in-laws sent me some glitter paint for Christmas, I think the diva needs her bling :)
