First atempt on a custom (Big Macintosh)
« on: April 01, 2012, 03:37:44 PM »
Today I found a fakie at a flea market. I decided to try this whole custom thing out on fakies before I start with the real deal. ;)
I chose to make a Big Macintosh custom, but forgot to paint the hooves a bright yellow colour so just ignore that.

Sadly my new paint brushes never arrived so I had to use my old ones which are quite messed up after years of usage.

This fakie have a lot of extra plastic around the neck so that's why it looks a bit strange. When I cut two V's in the neck plug to easier get the head back in place I was a bit too rough and sliced the neck up to around eye height (you can't see it on the picture because it's on the other side). Not my best move, luckily it's just a fakie.

As you can see he's bald atm, can't really decide if he's worth spending money on in terms of mane/tail.

Wow, this is your first custom? I see lots of potential here ^^ I don't even want my first custom to see the light of day, lol! That is a surprisingly smooth FBR and the eyes are fantastic!

As for rehairing, you might enjoy trying it just to see what it's all about, but I agree that hair can be kind of expensive to use on a fakie experiment. But you can always pilfer hair from other dolls (I used baity pony hair and transplanted it to my first custom), or even use things like yarn or ribbon.

Oh my, you make me blush.

I'm happy with the FBR but I never thought it would be that hard to reach the inside of the legs. :P Using doll hair or hair from baits is a very good idea, thanks! I had a lot of fun making this one and I can't wait to get my hands on another p.ony so that I can keep trying and get more experience. ^.^

Looking great, and very smooth FBR. I hear you about inside the legs. And I sculpted all around mine, so I can't pull them apart. -sigh-  LOL

The symbol looks great, too, and his freckles. I love Big Mac to pieces.  :inlove:
If you reluctant to rehair the fakie, I'd say you've earned your Real Pony Pass, don't you think so guys?

Thank you! :D Sculpted legs must be a nightmare to paint.

Hopefully I can find a baity G3 soon. Most of the G3's I see is in good shape and it doesn't feel good to ruin a perfectly fine pony. :P

If you want cheap hair find a local beauty shop that sells waive hair.  They comes times have different colors and all kinds of textures.  You'll get a lot of hair and it's cheap too!

I have some DH that is a blend of 2 yellows.  I won't need all of it.  Want half?  DD and I think he's adorable too.

I will keep and eye out for cheap wigs and waive hair. ^.^ After quite some thinking he will probably get some kind of mane and tail. What it's going to be made of will be a bit of a surprise depending on what my wallet can afford. ;)

That sounds great! How much would you like to have for it? :)
