Black Acrylic Paint problem
« on: March 04, 2012, 12:34:34 PM »
I don't know what the problem is.  I painted a pony white as a base and when paint part of it black once the white dries but when the black dried it got all cracky.  Both colors were Acrylic paint so I don't know why the blank want to dry like that.  I'd tried it again but put some gusto on it first thinking it could help the black but it still dried cracky.

Is the black paint old? That could be a problem. Or is it maybe too thick?

I don't know.  It's a Creamcoat brand.  I found another brand I have stuff away and I just repainted it to see if if was the other black paint.  How do you tell if the paint is old or not?

The paint shouldn't be cracking at all.
Is there a reason you're painting over white instead of directly on the pony?

I always thin my paint way down. It ends up being more work but I've yet to have a cracking problem...

I've never had to thin black down and have never had any problems with it, from the cheapest brands to the more expensive artists acrylics.

I've had the cracking occur. It usually happens when it dries to fast or too much via heat or something.
